  1. I may be in for one when you get all the details worked out. Thanks for all your effort.
  2. My best gift was watching the grandkids open up their gifts. Besides that I got just what I wanted, which was nothing at all. This year we really tried remembering that Christmas wasn't about "what" we got, but "who" we have in our lives. So it was a great Christmas at our house! I love all you guys. You're all part of my extended family.
  3. I know how you guys feel. I'm the same way. Last year I sent an email out here at work asking for used coats, sweaters, sweatshirts, etc. I collected them and then personally hit some "camps" only about a mile from where I work. I also took clothes to a battered women's shelter and a couple other local charities that reach out. The people here at work are still giving me clothing and whatever else they can find. The bottom line is that we can all make a difference in the lives of someone else. When a person has nothing, it only takes a little something to make an impact. God says He will repay us for what we give away. I have experienced that in my own life. Hand a gift to a child that has none and watch their face. that look alone will last you a lifetime. God bless all of my friends here on venturerider.org.
  4. So are you volunteering for the project? Just kidding. It's a great idea that would take some dedication on someone's part to put it togethher. First to get it all gathered off the board and then to compile into a nice easy to read format.
  5. Don, I appreciate all that you said. There are enough places on the internet to go for those looking for a fight, dirty jokes, sex, etc. I read this board every day several times. To me, Venturerider.org has become one of those safe places for me to go to have a few minutes to de-stress from all that's going on around me. Here I have found help when needed and an encouraging word when I feel down. I have also found friends I haven't met yet and never knew I had, and wouldn't give up for anything in the world. I love you guys! Let's not mess up what is easily one of the greatest websites in cyberspace.
  6. E Bay has this listing. i think it was posted on here before. May be worth looking into. Everything you need. I believe they also have a controller if you wanted one on E Bay. http://tinyurl.com/3ddt56
  7. Yes the Venture could use some tweaking, but we always talk about how Yamaha doesn't change things on these bikes every year or so. Hey...Harley has kept things basically the same for how many years. Just recently have we seen some real turn arounds from the Harley boys.We have a great bike, but no matter what you've got, there is always something else out there that has this or that on it you'd like to have. Get on and ride. If Yamaha comes out with a significantly improved Venture we'll all have our current scoots pretty much paid for by then and we can all go in as a group and trade our current rides for a new one. Just think of how many used Ventures will be for sale then.
  8. The town just East of me (Newark) has used several old bridges like this along the bike paths they have built on old railroad right of ways. They have one going over a creek on the Newark brach of Ohio State University and another one the crosses a river on another part of the bike path. There's a local foundation that bought the bridges and had them restored to a point where they are safe for pedestrian and bike traffic. I always thought it was a great idea to re-use these kinds of things. One of the bridges they used is actually one of the last ones of the type in existance here in Ohio. It's a neat idea.
  9. After reading the recent post concerning all the toy recalls I guess it just makes me mad that all this stuff is coming to light all of a sudden. I mean, how long has this went on and we're just now finding out there's a problem? Doesn't that seem kind of odd? Is there no regulations saying that we need to be checking these things when they come into our country? As someone pointed out we can't directly control what is made overseas, but we certainly can do spot checks once it gets onto our soil. I also take some of the responsibility because I never once questioned the safety of paint and such in the chinese made toys I know I have bought for my kids and now my grand kids over the years. Last year I did buy my one grandkids a set of Lincoln Logs. He still builds things with them. He's found out you don't have to have a battery powered toy in order to have fun. As a grandpa I think I'll just determine in my own heart to go back to simpler toys for the kids this year and in the coming years. It's time I become responsible for my own actions and not get pulled into the advertising hype that tells us the only good gifts are the electrical ones that come from wherever. Everyone ride safe and God bless you all.
  10. I just bought a new Bridgestone from Iron Pony here in Central Ohio. They do offer many different brands though. Go to their website at www.ironpony.com, click on tires and do a search for the sizes. There is some cost savings on some of the lesser known tires, but I didn't ask about them. I usually stick to what has worked for me. I guess my fear is that a less expensive tire wouldn't last as long anyway so the cost savings up front is a mute point. But I'm not sure if that's a valid argument since I have never tried one of the "off brand" tires. Good luck in your search, but more than anything. Be safe!
  11. My only hope is that people realize this "church" group is NOT what Christianity is all about. This stuff breaks my heart in several ways. One being the way they treat soldiers (not just the ones that gave it all for our freedom, but their actions are a slam against all our fighting men and women), and the other is the way they use God's name to spread their own brand of hatred. I know this is a motorcycle forum, so I'll leave it at that. Please all, be careful out there.
  12. I may be wrong, but my understanding was J&M went to a six pin system on the 1800's. Check with Sierra Electronics to be sure. www.sierra-mc.com
  13. Hi all, I have sent a message up to gary in the hospital. I'm not sure if he can get it yet or not. I am attempting to get up to Akron to see if I can visit him. Until then, please pray for the family as they deal with this mess. What a tragedy and to happen so far from their home. God bless.
  14. I will do whatever I can if you can get me a hospital that he's in as well as his last name etc. I'm located in central Ohio and without a doubt can get to him to offer assistance if needed. Please let me know if antone gets any further info. God bless.
  15. Mid-Ohio Honda/Kawaski/Yamaha in Mount Vernon, OH has a new Midnight Venture sitting on the floor. I saw it last Saturday.
  16. The reality is that inside most of the heated commercial clothing is the same type system that you see here. Only already done up in the garment. There's also a site on the net that tells you how to do this exact same thing. At least this guys got all the parts put together in one package. I would definitely buy a heat controller if I was to ever wear heated clothing myself.
  17. You know guys, in general the Venture is a great bike. Let's compare it with the new HD's. They have problems overheating, whining just like the Venture in certain gears, etc. All that and they cost thousands of dollars more than ours did up front. I have two friends that just bought new Harleys. (For the record, I love Harleys, but can never seem to bring myself to purchase one.) Both of them bought the bikes this summer and have alrady been back to the dealer not including all the extra money they have spent along the way. I have the chirp in my Venture and it can get annoying at times. I wish it would have come with a CD player, but it didn't. But the bottom line is that we all bought these bikes. Now we're complaining on this end of it. Seems to me like maybe we could have done more homework up front and then spent our money. None of the complaints I see on this board are new complaints. Rather they have more or less been around since the second gens first came out. So are we complaining about the bikes, or are we mad because we bought them in the first place? Having said that, Yamaha would do well to listen to what is being said on this board and others. Especially since competiotion in the motorcycle market is so big right now. Seems to me that they would want to do a much better job at customer service. That is one place where Harley has done a great job with their martketing. People actually are willing to spend much more money to be part of the ever growing Harley Davidson family. They do have a sense of togetherness that you can't ignore. I do love my Venture. I think it's much more comfortable than an Ultra, but my nexy bike will more than likely be a Harley in a few years. Only because they do seem to care about those that buy their products. WAKE UP YAMAHA! I now return you to your regular programing.

    Tank Bib

There's one for sale for $75.00 in our classified section here on the board.
  19. I believe that's the cb under the trunk. You would just do without it. If you look at the piics, the cb antenna is missing and he just has the radio antenna back there.
  20. Isn't San Francisco or somewhwre out in California the same way? I seem to remember someone telling me that it was hard to find a place that allowed bike parking. I also agree with the noise issue to some extent. A few years back when we went out to Sturgis I was more than thrilled when we finally got home. The loud pipes got to me aftter about two days. I couldn't understand why everyone wanted to rev their engines all the time. Who were they trying to impress, all the other thousands of loud bikes sitting within earshot? I have nothing against a bike sounding good, but there are limits I think. I had Cobra Baggers on my Nomad and they even tired me out afetr a while of riding. Maybe I'm just getting old. LOL The biottom line is that the noise issue is starting to infringe on all motorcyclists no matter what type of exhausts we run.
  21. Actually that's a great idea. An electric guitar tuner is pretty inexpensive these days.
  22. I have had problems with these bolts also. I bought a few replacements at a local Lowe's. the don't match, but at least I have them. I have already lost one. zI am going the loctit route myself. there's soemthing about this bike that loosens up the bolts. It runs smooth, so I don't get it.
  23. Hey Freebird, How much of a boost does the amp give you? I'd love just a little extra oomph in my system.

    Sad News

I, and others, will be lifting up his family up in prayer during this time. It's such a tragedy to hear of any biker going down, but it hits close to home when it's one of our venturerider family. I was just thinking the other day how close we all can be even when we haven't even met many of the people we communicate with here on this siteso often. Don, once again, thank you for pulling this all together. God bless you all.
  25. Hey Jerry, I just realized your in Columbus Ohio. I live in Pataskala and work at Children's Hospital so I'm in Columbus every day. Maybe sometime you'd give me an up close look at that trailer and your bike?
