  1. We stopped by Iron Pony today in Columbus, Ohio. They had a whole display of them. It's a neat concept, but they did feel a little heavy when I picked one up.
  2. Don't the carb heaters go off after they reach a certain temperature? I guess I only thought tey were on when it was cold at start up.
  3. Anyone is welcome anytime. It would ne my pleaseure to meet you all.
  4. I may just take you up on the offer to use the carbtune. I think my carbs may be out a little but am not sure. I desparately wanted to make it to Maintenance Day, but got sidetracked. How big a job is checking the carbs? I'd hate to take up a bunch of your free time. Ride safe.
  5. Last night a bunch of people met out at the new church property to discuss our upcoming Biker Weekend. Now mind you, our church really has it's roots in our biker ministry so there are a ton of bikers that show up each time we meet. Anyway, most of the riders from church are Harley guys and gals. Don't get me wrong, it doesn't bother me a bit. We all get along fine and they are some of the best friends I've ever had. But last night I saw something that really made me proud of my scoot. We had about 30 bikes lined up (mostly Harleys including some brand new ones, some Goldwings and a couple Stars thrown in for good luck). I was talking to some of my friends and looked down the row of bikes. To my surprise there were about 5 people standing around my Venture talking about it. So I walked over and asked if they have any questions. they were just complimenting the looks and how much they liked the Venture. One of them asked me what I thought about it and told me he has been wanting one. I offered him the use of mine for a day whenever he wanted to try one out. He was grinning from eear to ear. I expect a call one day soon! For me the Venture has everything I want and more. I just hope to someday get rid of my whine. After that, I'll be completly satisfied with it. A good friend of mine is an architect and really into design. He's totally into the look of the Venture. All in all it is a great looking machine. Also, on another note, I had to miss Don's maintenance day due to other obligations. Is there anyone in the Ohio area that has a Carbtune? I would like to get my carbs checked and adjusted if necessary. I'd be glad to pay you for doing it. I would also like to invite you all to the Biker Weekend we'll be having July 12 and 13. Check out the details at www.leaveamark.org Ride safe.
  6. My friend, My heart, thoughts and prayers go out to you and your dear wife. Please know that we are all here and will do whatever we can for the two of you. God's word says that He will never leave us nor forsake us. I believe those words because I know them to be true in my life as I faced dark and troubled times. If I can do anything, please let me know. My e mail address is whozleft@yahoo.com and my cell phone number is 740-403-1634. Take care of yourself and your wife. Give her a huge hug from her venturerider family. In His service.
  7. I have aoften heard that a twelve inch tire spins at a slower rate than an 8 inch tire. But does anyone know how to figure up just how much a difference that makes? I guess I always wondered what the answer is. I have a Neosho with 8" tires that I have pulled at every speed imaginable with no problems. The bottom line is I don't imagine anyone can tell a whole lot of difference in the two really, when being pulled. But that's just always been my thought. Just like bikes, we all have our opinion of what we like. If you like 8" buy a trailer with 8". If not, go bigger. Just ride and be safe!
  8. My wife and I decided NOT to take a vacation this year due to the rising costs of everything. I am sad to say my Venture hasn't even been started in over two weeks because I have a hard time spending the money to fill up the tank on the bike these days. My wifes Civic is our work transportation and gets just about the same mileage as the Venture. Since we ride to work together, it doesn't even pay me to ride separately just to ride the bike like I used to. We live about 32 miles each way from our jobs, so we save whenever we can. We will be riding with our frids from church, but I pick and choose what rides I go on more than I used to. The past couple years we were on the road every weekend doing something. But since the costs of food and gas are higher than before, a guys got to make decisions he may not always like. Ride safe.
  9. Not traveling over the Memorial day weekend, but I do have the privilege of marrying one of the ladies at work and her fiance. We have the rehearsal Friday night and the wedding will be on Saturday evenng ourside in the gardens at COSI in Columbus, OH. Oh, yeah, somewhere in between we'll try to get a few rides in on our bikes. For those of you that will be on the road, please be careful and drive safely.
  10. I looked too but ended up with the Yamaha brand. It looks to be a better quality than the others I looked at. I decided a few extra dollars was worth it especially since I had invested so much in the bike to begin with.
  11. You can buy a modulite type module at an AutoZone or Carparts if there's one close to you.
  12. Never title a post by saying, "I'm off!" Too many people may agree with me. LOL Just kidding Lowel. Have a great time.
  13. It's also important to NOT tie the bike down with maximim force. In other words, some tend to bottom out the shocks when tieing a bike down. that isn't necessary You should always have some bounce room so that the shocks aren't in danger of being destroyed by a harsh bump.
  14. I think it's the power source for either your muffler bearings or for the high speed wobbly washer thingy. Actually I'm not sure but maybe it's for an accessory that your bike doesn't have on it. Can you think of an accessory or option that may have been avaialble on some bikes?
  15. Any info on this hyper chip you mentioned? What is it, where do I get one, how hard is it to install, etc. Thanks
  16. No matter what bike you own, there's always something you love about it and other things you hate. The trick is realizing the things you really like should always outweigh the other things. I have had many bikes in my life. The Venture has some great points. It's much more comfortable than either of the Goldwings I have owned. You can stretch out on a Venture. We complain about the cassette player. Yes, it is ridiculous in this day and age, but they did give us the option for the MP3 hookup, and the CD player is an option should you want to take up some storage space to install one. So there are things we can do. My Valkyrie Interstate was a great bike, but I did have to buy rear speakers. And it didn't have cruise control on it from the factory. So you see, it's all in how we look at things. A speaker upgrade on the Venture really isn't such a huge problem or expense when you look at the other bikes where the first thing people do is spend close to a thousand dollars in exhaust upgrades to get the sound they want. As I get older I realize that the "PERFECT BIKE" is not produced. Just go to Don's maintenance day and see how many variations on the Venture you see. Some have cupholders, some have fringe, etc. So the bottom line is a manufacturer just could never make one bike that satisfies all people. Improvements can and should be made as time progresses though, and I think that is where Yamaha dropped the ball. But, hey, they got to use up all the old casstte players they got such a great deal on! I think they didn't make the Venture for '08 because they ran out of cassette players. LOL For me the Venture is a great bike with most of what I want. The other things I can put on myself. Just ride your bike and enjoy it. And most of all, stay safe.
  17. If you want a rubber base what would you think about buying a cheap mouse pad, taking the ornament off, and using it as a pattern to cut a new rubber base out of the mouse pad? On another forum I read where a guy made a laydown license plate bracket and used a rubber mouse pad as a base between the fender and bracket. It's just a thought, would be cheap and could be replaced easily.
  18. http://www.gadgetjq.com/drink_holder.htm This has two good deas for holders on the cheap.
  19. I'm looking a buying a new MP3 player for use on the bike. Anyone have good luck with one they'd like to share? I currently have an old cheapy that's going south and doesn't like to work right anymore. Here's my list of things I'd like: 1. Low to Medium price range. 2. No video needed 3. Minimum 2g memory 4. Good battery life OR 5. Able to plug into outlet on bike. Thanks for any imnput, suggetsions, etc. Have a great day.
  20. I'd be glad to help you look at it. May not be a big problem and may be due to a little lube and alignment problem. If you can't get it into the shop, e mail me and we can look at it up on my lift. I live just east of you in Pataskala, OH. I've had the same problem on my 06.
  21. I haven't used them, but am considering getting some myself. I'm in central Ohio and may just ride over to Sierra Elec. and check them out first hand before I make a decision. They are great folks to deal with and I have been to their store before.
  22. My wife has a 2004 Vulcan Classic 1500. She would like a set of Leatherlyke saddlebags. The Model # is T-422 I believe. Anyway, I have been serching the net to find the best price on a set. Anyone have an idea of where I could get a set? I hate to pay full price for the bags since that takes money aay from me to spend on my Venture. LOL Thanks for any help.
  23. I was thinking about painting my seat nuts white or bright yellow in order to make them a little easier to see. Especially if I'd ever have to access them at night. Might have to repaint them once in awhile, but it could make it easier. I also use a 1/4" ratchet and 10mm socket to get mine off.
  24. Just look on the left hand side of the page where it says "mini stats"
  25. I'd sure be interested in one of those shorties if anyone wants to cut me a deal. I'd like to have the option of going shorter in the summer. Thanks
