  1. Hey guys - I just had my official Star Passing Lamps installed at the Dealership. As with others, they wired it (probably according to the instructions) so that the Lamps go OFF when the High Beam is used. Is there an EASY fix for this that may be clearly explained to a novice? Is there any reason WHY one would want the lights to go off on High Beam? To save juice? THANKS, TE
  2. I just had my Star Passing Lamps installed at my local Yamaha Dealer due to my lack of patience with wiring things up. While checking them out....I noted they were ON when the headlight beam was in Normal position but OFF when flipped the switch to BRIGHT. Is this the way they're supposed to operate? If so, what is the logic of turning them off when the high beam is in operation??? Thanks a million. Ride ON !! TE:Venture:
  3. Very cool idea for 'split rallies'...but it also means twice the work with half the people - maybe. These posts are clearly aligning for three areas...either the Rocky Mountains or the Smokey Mountains or Arkansas in the middle. Maybe we should move between the three sites each year...instead of 'splitting'. I understand it was in Colorado last year....so...maybe we should go East this year, then Arkansas, then back to Colorado/Wyoming/Idaho/New Mexico next. If looking East the two areas getting the most play are Knoxville and Asheville. Both are SPECTACULAR. Smokies, Blue Ridge Parkway, Attractions, Great Rides, Biker Friendly. THANKS ! Tom
  4. I would like to nominate the 'Southeastern-Central Ohio' area. Maybe Columbus, Zanesville or Lancaster. The riding is SPECTACULAR in Southeastern Ohio. There is a twisty technical ride called the 'Ohio Dragon' ride RT. 555, as well as Ohio River rides, Wayne National Forest (Hocking Hills), etc. Also the AMA National Headquarters is in Pickerington, OH. The Museum and Motorcyclist Hall of Fame is there. Thanks for listening. Tom
  5. OK...I'm confused....that is not a surprise these days...and I'm a techno idiot. I looked on the Sierra Web Site. They had a Cobra HH38WXST radio KIT listed with a headset, mount, ratio etc. However, it clearly stated it was an IMC setup and "CANNOT BE USED ON A 5-PIN DYNAMIC SYSTEM". I thought someone said there was a model which plugged directly into the headset phones (5-pin) which we use on the Venture. Can anyone clarify? Thanks again. tom
  6. THANKS TO ALL YOU GUYS FOR CHIMING IN. This site is a real help. I think we'll opt for the Sierra CB system. Biggest reason...it has the 5-pin plug and our helmuts are already wired. Also, we tour with other riders who use CB Channel 1. We do not get the profane chatter on there. OK, so where do I purchase this system? I'll search on-line unless someone knows the best source. THANKS AGAIN !!! tom
  7. Hey folks.....does anyone have a suggestion about what my wife and I need to buy for her bike, which does not have any audio equipment, so that we can talk to one another when riding together??? We've considered a CB for her as well as walkie talkies, bike to bike intercoms, etc. It seems a shame not to choose an option whereby we use something that is already on the Venture and supplement what we need for her bike. ANY SUGGESTIONS? ANYONE TRIED THIS (successfully !) ALREADY? Tom
  8. I had the same clicking noise (see earlier posts). My bike came back from the shop - OhioMotorcycles in Hilliard - yesterday. It's now smooth and noise free. The Service Manager said the REAR HUB/WHEEL was out of alignment. He also stated it was the 4th one he has had to fix. Common problem. Easy solution (of course a day in the shop) under warranty. Tom
  9. I put the 4" lower SHOW CHROME Smoke windshield on my '08 Silver Venture. Both my wife and I think it should be the style and size Yamaha should have engineered on the bike in the first place. I can now look over it, which is a strong preference. Everything is clearer - a safety issue. Cannot notice any wind difference (still goes over my head). I paid $80.00 on one of the sites recommended in this string. Totally satisfied. Tom
  10. Thanks to everyone on this forum who helped with the dead rear headset (my wife thanks those who suggested doing NOTHING). I took off the seats, the front shroud, looked at every connection I could find.....but all in vain. The dealer took a look and finally found the DISCONNECTED plug. "Guess they forgot to plug it in at the factory". NO CHARGE. Now, I'm bugged and cannot imagine where that plug was that was disconnected. Maybe under the trunk? In the rear speaker cabinet? It's fixed. It wasn't broke. Just not assembled. Must have been a Monday bike. Tom
  11. HI - I recently bought a Venture after looking at all the other options which are well known. You will not go wrong with a Venture. The pros and cons have been pretty well summed up. I'm 6'2" 210 and moved up to the RSV from a V-Star 1100 (which I rode 5 years and have been coast to coast border to border on). I'll tell you the Venture PERFECT for the serious tour rider. YES, it took some getting used to the weight, I was 'used to it' after 200 miles of 2-up touring. You will notice some top-heaviness with a rider when you are STOPPED. However, this BIG BIKE is as nible as they come while riding. Everything is very comfortable for both of us. The one thing I did not like is the windshield. It is made to look THROUGH it. I want to see ahead of me and look OVER it. I bought a Show Chrome 4" lower shield. NOW YOU'RE TALKING!! Also put on an aftermarket rider backrest. I also want to attest to the guys on this site as being a GREAT BUNCH. I had a couple of questions in the forums and had answers and suggestions from everywhere. Add that to 5 year warranty and road side assistance - dealer network support - accessories available. Am I happy with my Venture.....YES!!! Tom Schoener
  12. I just spoke to the Service Manager at OhioMotorcycles in Hilliard, OH last evening. I told him about the clicking problem from the rear of my Venture. He IMMEDIATELY knew what I was talking about. He said - "Usually the pins need lubed or the hub needs aligned and torqued properly....my tech, John, just did one last week". I'm scheduled to get this service. It is common as everyone on here has reported. I think I found a good service guy. Q. Can we still ride with this malady? I'm on the calendar for April 30 at the shop. Tom Schoener
  13. Everyone is coming up with GREAT ideas...none of which have panned out. I have checked the 'fade'....and it works through the rear SPEAKERS, so, unless there is a Fade unique to the HS setting - that's not it. I do not recall a feature that can shut off the rear Headset. I'll double check, but for what purpose?? If you purposely want the rear HS off....unplug it !! I've jiggled every wire I could find....plugged and unplugged. Looked for shorts. I'm coming up empty. Going to visit the Service Shop soon which I dread. Tom S.
  14. Hey thanks guys for helping. Regarding the questions asked: The bike is NEW. The volume control on the back is UP (we turned it up and down many times with the headsets connected). With the front headset ON and plugged in all is well. The back one is 'dead'. We switch headsets and the back is still the problem. We are also getting a very low volume play through the rear speakers with the headset plugged in...in other words it does not completely 'cancel' the speakers. I'm going to start with removing the seats and checking all the plugs I can find in the trail fo the plug-in. Tom Schoener
  15. HI FOLKS... Just received our new YAMAHA official Head sets. Both are installed into our helmets. BOTH work from the rider's jack. When we plug in to the back passanger jack....neither work. So it's somewhere in the wiring to the jack. . What do I do and where do I start my search to fix the rear set??? Thanks to anyone who can help. It looks to me that the trunk has to be removed to get to the wiring. Remove both seats also???? Tom Schoener
