  1. I am wondering what kind of touring capabilitys a Concours would have.. I KNOW the wife and I are wayy spoiled with the 1st Gen Yammer (I am wondering if my body is permanently molded to the good ol yam) BUT I have a chance to get on a Concours for a really swinging deal and am considering it.. At any rate,, anyone here ever spent anytime on anything even remotely comparable?? All yeas and neayss welcome! thanks Scott
  2. We just booked our rooms for Maintenance Day 2012 at the Quality Inn in Elyria. This is where we have stayed the last 2 years and they have always treated us well. They offered us a very good rate again this year, if anyone is interested. $60.00 Per night plus tax!!! All you need to do is call them during the day, M - F, and ask for Laura or Peter. PH: 440-324-7676. Tell them you are with Venture Rider to get this rate. She remembered us from before and said it would not be a problem. Hope to see lots of you there. Don and Patti
  3. For those members staying at the Ponderosa it's important that you tell them you're with the Venture Rider Group when checking in... as if it wouldn't be obvious .... Anyway they have agree'd to give us a rate less than their normal summer rates. When we first announced the Rally, way back last year, members in the know jumped on the cabins before we could talk to the Ponderosa about a rate like we had in '09. We just assumed that it would be biz as usual. Not!! We dropped the ball, but thanks to Kurt (Starstruk) the problem has been resolved. Just remember to tell them you Ride a Venture....

    #1 again

Flint dropped to #3 last year but with a record number of murders and violent crimes last year we are back to #1 most violent city in the USA. And at the rate Flint is going this year Flint will shatter last years murder rate. Last year at this time there were only 9 murders for a total of 65 for the year. So far there has been 34 and that is only in the city limits. Add Flint township and it goes way up. There is only 102.000 people in Flint. The top 5 for violent crime is Flint, Detroit, St. Louis, New Haven, Conn. and Memphis, Tenn. New stat just came out, Flint #1 in arson's per capita, more then twice as many as #2 Toledo OH. Also #1 in crime increase. Well enough whining, some day I'm going to get out of here and make it to Lake Guntersville.
  5. My bike insurance policy is up for renewal in a couple of weeks and I received the renewal notice (from Dairyland) a couple of weeks ago. It was $338.50. I then noticed that since I bought the Goldwing and sold my Venture a few weeks ago that I had failed to drop the insurance on Venture. So I called my agent and took care of dropping the old bike. Last week I get a new policy renewal for the single bike and noticed that my rate had been lowered to the single bike rate. They dropped it $2.39. I thought someone made a mistake. Surely I couldn't insure a second bike for $2.39. So I called the agent and she said there must be some mistake. She put in a call to Dairyland and their explanation was that I lost my multi-bike discount and the rate was correct. She still thought that was bogus so she shopped the same coverage with other companies and came back with a rate of $210 from American Home. I've never heard of them but she recommended them and said that was who she had her bike insured with. So, I'll be switching insurance soon. FYI, Progressive was $389. Dennis
  6. Does anyone have any concerns with these ebay Progressive Springs. Suggested Retail: $92.95 The Original Progressive Rate Fork Springs soak up the small road bumps, yet are firm enough to absorb the molar-rattling ones. Spring rates have been chosen to reduce front end "dive" during braking, yet still provide excellent ride comfort. Better yet, we warranty our fork springs for life! Progressive Rate Fork Springs have several advantages over straight rate springs. A straight rate spring only offers linear resistance to compression and is a compromise. For example, if you have a 20lb straight rate spring, it will take 20lbs of force to compress the spring one inch. It will take 20 more lbs of force to compress it the next inch, and so on, until the end of the travel. A Progressive Rate Spring has the advantage of a rising rate resistance to compression.
  7. OK,anyone that has ridden a Gold Wing especially over a rougher road knows the front fork set up could use some attention..dont get me wrong it is super on the highway but you still feel harsher bumps thru the handlebars. That being stated I just got home from a ride with another Wing that has the "All Balls" and Progressive Rate springs installed on it...plus a Kumho Run Flat Car Tire. My observations:Night and day difference having the progressive rate springs in the front end,the all ball head bearings are very stable feeling, seems more responsive also. The progressive Rate springs took 95 % of harshness out..Im saying 95% because after appx 50 miles or whatever riding it I didnt feel the harshness but Im sure as with any bike a hard enough hole in the road will make it jolt you. The Car Tire....I will not be going with it..I felt very unsure on it as it seemed to want to roll as I would corner, that being said the guy that owns it can easily scrape the boards and corner as good if not better than I. On April 5th I will be going to Houston to have the all balls and progressive springs plus shock bled and reloaded plus Chrome Wheels installed. For $275.00 I am having the All Balls and Springs put in,I am supplying the springs. I think this will be the best money I have spent tweaking a bike compared to the ride I took today. I hope this write up helps anyone with questions on the front suspension. IM me if you need the guys number or if OK with Freebird I will post it here..Tom
  8. I have just spoken with George the Gen. Mgr at the Best Western in Blairsville, and as of now I have a rate of $62.99 and the rate is good Wed. thru Sat. That is the best he would do. I tried to get him to come down to the rate at the Seasons Inn, but he wouldnt budge, but it is still a pretty good rate. To make a res at the Best Western please call them direct at 706-745-6995 and mention Venturerider to get this rate, $62.99 plus tax, good for your entire stay.
  9. The following is supposedly an actual question given on a University of Washington chemistry mid-term. The answer by one student was so profound" that the professor shared it with colleagues, via the Internet, which is, of course, why we now have the pleasure of enjoying it as well. Bonus Question: Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)? Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant. One student, however, wrote the following: First, we need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are moving into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving. As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there is more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately as souls are added. This gives two possibilities: 1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose. 2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over. So which is it? If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "it will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you, and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true, and thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over. The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct...leaving only Heaven thereby proving the existence of a divine being which explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God." THIS STUDENT RECEIVED THE ONLY "A
  10. Soon I'll be setting my labor rate for the upcoming season and would like some input. If you know what shops in your area are charging/hour I'd appreciate the following feedback: Dealer/Independent Geographical area (eg. West Tennessee). Labor rate. Thanks!
  11. Is there anyone out there on the south side of Atlanta with a tire changer? I've got my rear wheel off my 96 RSTC and am looking to swap out the tires. I am thinking of buying a tire changer but would really like to get back on the road sooner. I can afford to pay a little bit but not what the shops around here want. If you can help me or if you know someone that can do it at a reasonable rate could you let me know. Thanks Bob

I'll be hitting the donate button in a bit. HMMMMM, Am I a charter member of a new club; "I dropped my bike at MD"??? I may have to quit these big events, 'cause I'm 2 for 2. Yeah I joined the "I dropped the bike at Vogel" club last year. 15. From the sales rep with the works shocks with respect to what is available for the RSV: "XVZ13 Royal Star Venture 99up Unit Rear 10.00 OAL (stock length) Durasport Series w/single rate spring and threaded pre-load @ [Price omitted by me for sake of discussion]. Ultrasport series w/single rate spring, 16 position adjustable rebound damping and threaded pre-load @ [Price omitted by me for sake of discussion] . ...." So, my question is for those of you that either: 1) have the works shock and would like to give me your thoughts on which one you chose and why you picked the way you did 2) Know a little something about these things and have an opinion on which one would be better and why. The "WHY" here is really what I am interested in since this will help me make an informed decision about which one to go with. Thanks for you time folks!!
  16. Since I've been mulling over going "Dark" next tire change, I've been asking around about seating the beads. I spoke to one of the techs at a local shop who'll mount a CT for me (if I sign a waiver) and asked what kind of pressure he's seen while seating the tires. Needless to say, I was shocked when he says he gets them to seat @ 40-45 psi with a good lube. I asked how he was able to do that and told him about the 100+ psi horror stories I've heard about on here. He said the trick was to remove the valve stem because the stem only allows the air in at a much slower rate. He said by taking the stem out, and hitting it with pressure, the quicker rate of inflation makes it seat easier, quicker, and better. I've not seen it happen, just passing along the info. Hope it helps.
  17. Quick question: Say I purchase a home for $55,000, and I turn around and rent it for $550 per month. Neglecting taxes, insurance, etc, how do I calculate my annual return rate? Is it as simple as (550*12)/55000=12% ? I would appreciate the formula. Trying to figure out what rental rate I would have to charge to achieve a particular interest rate. I know that market conditions determine the rental rate, but I am an engineer, and I like numbers I want to know what rate a savings account would have to be to accomplish the same rate of return.
  18. 100 hours of instruction over three weekends. Holy @& that was some work. (In addition to my regular day job during the week. At any rate, I will be teaching at Southwest Tech in Fennimore, WI. Any other ridercoaches in IL, WI, IA?
  19. I've had my 2 bikes insured with Progresive for 3 years... and every year the costs have increased to my current bill of $306.00.... Then I bought my Venture to replace a bike... Did a Policy change and the new rate went to $497.00... Coverages are the same... except the Venture is newer.. worth more etc. So just for kicks... I went to the Progresive site and acted like a new custermor and entered all my info for a NEW quote... Same coverages as before and even got towing added,.,, the NEW rate is $293.00. I'm guessing that this grate rate will go up again next year and that its low to get me in... Nice reward for staying with a company for years with no claims... you get to PAY MORE then a new custermor with no history. Anybody else run into this? Anybody know WHY?
  20. Not a bad rate for those looking to buy.Yamaha financing available at 5.99% for 72 on a new RSV with approved credit.Anybody looking thats not a bad rate on top of your best deal.

Just be sure and tell them that you are with the ventureriders so they can get the rate right. The phone number is 440-775-1111. They are anxiously awaiting our arrival.
  22. I take care of the Maint. on the range bikes; GZ250, 125 Eliminator, 250 Rebels & Nighthawks, and TW 200 mostly. I need to find the flat rate from the dealer to compare with what we do for budget reasons. Is there an on line resource? Thanks Rod
  23. notice anything funny about the middle picture? Front Mount Air Horns For GL 1500 1988-1997, GL 1200 1984-1987, GL 1100 1980-1983, GL 1000 1975-1979 http://www.customdynamics.com/Images/d_135.jpg http://www.customdynamics.com/Images/d_197.jpg http://www.customdynamics.com/Images/d_193.jpg Triple chrome plated. All Air horn systems are bolt on plug in applications. Requiring about 30 minutes to install. They include the horn set, dust/bug covers, all necessary hardware, hoses, wiring, fuse, relay, and detailed instructions with pictures. The air compressor creates instant air pressure to the horns. Since the pressure is created so fast there is no need for a storage tank as on Semi Trucks and RVs. Although the pressure is very low (12-15 psi) it delivers a large volume of air (3 CFM or cubic feet per minute). This low-pressure high volume air supply causes the diaphragm inside the horn to vibrate at a high rate of speed or *frequency* the exact speed at which it vibrates is varied by the length of the horn or trumpet. Together the horn set produces an extremely loud 128-decibel warning blast. This is approximately 4 times louder than most electric motorcycle horns, which usually rate at 87 decibels. AHFRT Fits:
  24. Thanks to this forum I have repaired the E4 code problem but I think the Rear spring and or Shock are toast. It holds air ok and rises when inflated but bottoms out pretty hard especially with two up. Rate adjuster doesnt seem to do anything either. Is there an aftermarket replacement?? Viperpash
  25. earlier, i read a post about the 5-4 supreme court ruling on the second amendment. now , after an hour of reading 200+ years of "pro and con" high court rulings and interpretations, i can't find the post, so i can't reply. it must have gone SOUTH, really fast! at any rate, it is sad indeed, that we have FOUR supreme court justices, who cannot read "plain English"!!!! just jt
