  1. I have just spoken with George the Gen. Mgr at the Best Western in Blairsville, and as of now I have a rate of $62.99 and the rate is good Wed. thru Sat. That is the best he would do. I tried to get him to come down to the rate at the Seasons Inn, but he wouldnt budge, but it is still a pretty good rate. To make a res at the Best Western please call them direct at 706-745-6995 and mention Venturerider to get this rate, $62.99 plus tax, good for your entire stay.
  2. Went on a nice ride from Colorado Springs to Castle Rock and back with my wife today. It was still a little chilly in the morning but afternoon wasn't too bad (except through the higher country). But we didn't need any chaps or overly heavy garments, so I count that good. Two issues I did have. 1. First time using my JM headsets...they are the original pair I got from previous owner. They seem to work well (although had to modify helmet because they were so think they pressed against my ears). The only issues is when I turn the IC up loud enough to hear well, I pick up so much wind noise it's crazy. I guess it's wind noise because I don't hear it when stopped but when going highway speeds it sounds like white noise... 2. Something's wrong with my cruise control. I turn it on, hit the set button let go of gas and it will drop 5-10 mph before trying to engage. Then it will attempt to engage but as soon as it does, it drops out of cc and the Res light comes on...I can click on the Resume button and the Res light starts to blink, but once again, as soon as I feel the cc start to kick in, it drops back out of cruise and the Res light comes on solid again...not sure what's going on...I tried it when I first got the bike from PO 6 months ago but haven't really used it since then...
  3. Is there anyone around the Knoxville TN area who has the tools to help me sync my carbs. I want to have this done to see if if it helps. I don't mind going to your place but I don't trust this bike to go a long ways. Can you leave the petcock on the right rear on res all the time. I ran out of gas the other day after only 150 miles and could not turn the petcock to res. Had to call the wife to bring me gas.
  4. Ok folks.. I've gotten a lot of work done to the bike today and here's what I discovered and I'm STILL puzzled by the WTF factor lol.. wow 2006 Midnight Special, 36,900 miles on it.. (NO warranty on it at all.. don't ask, there isn't any) Initial problem was that when the fuel level got to the reserve level (around 3 bars or less) and the bike starts to choke, I would select RES and the bike dies, though it is confirmed to still have it's reserve fuel amount (yes, the level is properly selected to RES, not off, not ON). Once the bike is refueled, and lever set to ON from RES, it will start once again with full choke on and then all is good as normal.. Once was a fluke, twice is a problem so I had to start working on it.. Everything is fine but the bike wouldn't give me an F on the fuel or a yellow light.. just cough and die when I would select to RES. SO, this would indicate a blocked standpipe in the tank.. I drained the fuel with the level set to "ON" and let it go until it stopped.. then selected RES where I would assume nothing would flow but Huh?? It flowed full force again.. what the heck? This is contrary to what I was getting on the road.. twice!! I pulled the petcock out of the tank to examine it, expecting to see sludge or what ever.. brilliantly clear and clean.. the fuel drained from the bike was clean.. I took a lint free cloth to wipe a little bit of the inside of the tank to see if there was a sludge coating or something at the bottom of the tank and nothing.. all clean.. well then.. what gives? With the ignition turned ON, and absolutely no fuel in the tank, the fuel gauge reads nothing but there is no empty fuel light or F on the odo.. I removed the tank from the bike to change the spark plugs and gave it a roll over to swish it out a bit and hoping to hear the fuel level float inside but didn't hear it.. I would assume it's working as it does indicate fuel amount.. The local Yamaha dealership suggested that I have the interior of the tank "steam cleaned" at the local radiator shop to make sure no gunk or junk is left inside.. But I hesitate on that one for obvious reasons.. and no one here has ever heard of "Heat" or H33T what ever it's called.. I pulled the fuel filter out (ever pull the teeth out of an elephant from it's rear? this is similar!) and it didn't show any odd signs of contamination so it got replaced on spec anyway.. All the fuel lines were 'puff tested' to make sure they were clear and not blocked (spit, caff caff) And the vent line as well at the top of the tank.. So now, the only thing left is to swish the tank again with clean fuel to catch maybe perhaps something else that might in there.. and try this test all over again.. Can someone confirm that when I put fuel back into the tank and turn the ignition ON, I should indeed hear the pump tick tick tick as it fills the lines again? Is this correct and that failure to hear the pump might indicate a fuel pump malfunction? Or is it possible then I am possibly looking at a 'computer' problem?? Later today, I will run the bike with it's new filters (air & fuel), spark plugs and such and see what happens.. I'll run it in RES and ON mode to see if that makes a prob.. The only prob if I can't resolve this fuel issue is that I will have to ensure I refuel just as I hit 3 bars as then I don't know when I will 'run out of fuel' as it were, while still carrying a reserve amount that I can't access.. Any of this sound familiar to you guys? Any thoughts or ideas? Man.. what a day!! Cheers
  5. Ok, this has happened to me twice and now I'm at a loss as to what to do.. Allow me to describe the issue and hopefully someone can come up with a viable suggestion. On two occasions, I've basically run out of fuel, without a low fuel light, with the petcock in the RUN position (long end of lever DOWN). When the bike started to chug chug as it does when hitting the reserve levels, turning the petcock to RES (long end of lever vertically UP), the engine cough sputters and dies. The fuel quantity gauge shows 2 or 3 bars.. On both occasions, I've put a measured amount of fuel into the gas tank and refilled at the nearest gas station to a total amount of roughly 16L.. which means, the gas tank had more than it's Reserve Fuel quantity still in it, but unavailable! Whoa.. what gives? Books says it's a 22.5 litre tank with a 3.5 reserve.. so when I hit reserve, I should be at the 19 litre mark, right? In another thread, it was suggested to remove the petcock and check see if the system was working properly.. Unfortunately I haven't the location to start pulling such parts off the bike.. But I was able to perform a quick trouble shooting test.. but with unfamiliar results. The problem encountered would suggest that when I get to the reserve fuel amount, turning the petcock to RES results in fuel NOT making it to the engine and starving the engine of fuel.. Ahh OK.. so lets do a quick test here.. The fuel tank is FULL at this point.. My assumption is that there might be a problem with the RES fuel feed at the petcock but not fully understanding how it works nor having a proper diagram/drawing of what it looks like, I am assuming that there is something blocking the fuel feed when the petcock is in the RES position.. However, with a full tank of gas, when I put the petcock to RES with the fuel line disconnected, I observe a full stream of fuel passing through the petcock indicating to me that there is no blockage... Unless perhaps the system permits fuel from a FULL tank of gas to by pass a blocked RES feed path at the petcock (dunno if this makes sense the way I am explaining it) Am I doing this wrong whereas I really need to empty the tank with the petcock turn to the ON position, and then turn the petcock to see if there is a blockage? Dang I wish I had a garage to play in..
  6. Anyone come up with a replacement cap to cover the 6 allen screws that hold the CB and coolent res. Door?
