  1. My wife own and rides a Kawasaki Vulcan 1500 Classic. She's an excellent rider and has taken and psse the Experience Rider Course, which I highly recommend.
  2. Buy the Venture but don't take it home until you know it's right. If you run down the road and it chirps, take it right back and ask them to get it fixed before you sign off on it. That way they'll have to do something or they won't sell the bike. Just ask to test drive the one you are looking at.
  3. There's a Rivco stand in the classifieds here on the site right now if you're interested. I have no connection with the sale or the sale, just passing on the info.
  4. Greeat message and all so true. God bless you and yours.
  5. Here in Central Ohio on Buckeye Lake and in the winter when the lake was solidly frozen over, they used to have winter bike racing and all the bikes had those spiked tires. I never got to see a race but had many people tell me about them.
  6. I just wanted to say that I have delt with Sierra for many years. More so when I had Goldwings. Any time I had an issue with headsets or the like they have always been great to deal with and have taken care of the problem. Once at a Goldwing rally they even replaced a cord for me on the spot even after I told them I had bought it from another vendor a year before. I also have visited their store here in Ohio and got excellent service. So this is my vendor endorsement. I ahve also heard that the Edset people are good to deal with. We are forunate to have many vendors that still know the value of customer service. Have a very Merry Christmas!
  7. I also am going to puchase the Butler Mod this winter. I have locked up the rear brake on my bike twice since I bought it. the last time I almost rear ended a car because the bike started to slide out of control. Thankfully I gopt my wits abouit me and was able to pull out of it, but my wife was behind me on her bike, saw what happened, and it just about scared her to death. So I'll be getting the mod and sending me seat off to Rick sometime soon.
  8. Once at a Goldwing rally they had a light parade one evening. There was a guy who had a trailer made from a coffin. He had it painted black and had the POW/MIA ensignias on it. Also some words about remembering those who fought and died for our country. It was one of the most memorable things I had ever seen.
  9. I'm at work, but I think I got a copy of the checklist that they filled out during the process when i bought my bike. I'll look when I get home. If I have it I will scan it and get it to you if no one has done so before that. Ride safe.
  10. I saw a test by an independant lab on the internet concerning noitrogen inflated tires. The bottom line was that there was no difference between a tire inflated with nitrogen as opposed to one inflated with regular air. I personally think it's just a well thought out sales tactic. I do know about the density of air versus nitrogen, but according to the test it just doesn't hold up to testing. I had googled it and found the article so you can probably search it out.
  11. Thanks for all the info. I will do some wrench shopping this weekend.
  12. Hey all, Can anyone tell me the size of the steering head nut I need to loosen to adjust my steering head? Don's got a great write up in the tech section, but I apparently don't have a large enough open end wrench and I don't want to use channel locks and risk messing up the bolt head. Thanks for the help.
  13. link worked for me, but the cost of $1000.00 for two pipes is waaayyy too far out of my budget. They look nice and are adjustable for sound, though. That's a neat idea.
  14. http://www.sierra-mc.com/proddetail.asp?prod=JM%2DHDCH%2D960 This is what i got and it works great. i was told that some do not have a long enough flap to fit down into the windshield. This one does.
  15. Looks to me like if you get the bike up to say 140-150mph the speedo needle would cut that little critter up into pieces so small you'll never notice them.
  16. A likttle like the in mirror lights on some of the newer cars isn't it? I'm not so sure I would like them, but apparently there's a market for something like this.
  17. My riding buddies were talking about changing the oil on their Harleys at church the other day. One of them just bought a new bike this year and it was his first oil change. He told me that the oil and the filter cost him 100.00 to do the job. I didn't think to ask him what kind of oil, but even with synthetic that seems to be a bit high. Has anyone ever heard of this kind of maintenance costs? The real interesting part of the conversation was that he said he decided to change it when the oil went so low the bike started making noises. Where'd the oil go? My Venture has never lost a drop of oil any time as far as I know. One of the other guys said it was burned out the exhaust. I know those bikes are configured differently but that still doesn't seem right to me. Guess I have a lot to learn even at my age! I have ran synthetic in the Venture but didn't notice so much difference that I switched back to regular oil. I change my oil every 3000 miles regardless, so it didn't seem prudent for me to spend the extra on syn. Even so, I am so glad I have a Venture and my oil changes are inexpensive by comparison it looks like. I do like the Harley's though. Maybe one day I'll get one since the last one I had was back in the mid-70's and there are some major improvements since then. Please don't take this as a slam on a different brand of bike. It is not. I just thought the whole conversation was interesting and wanted to share. You all ride safe and if you get near the middle of Ohio sometime look me up. I'm just east of Columbus.
  18. Thanks for the quick answers. I went on the Star Motorcycle site and they don't sahow a visor for the Venture under their "accessory" lists. But I know I had seen some.
  19. Is there a headlight visor that fits the Venture's headlight? Anyone with any experience with doing this? What brand, etc. Thanks for the info.
  20. Why special order the Honda Moly grease? Isn't there something avaialable at Auto Zone or PEP Boys or something? Not trying to start anything I just wondered to see if I should go ahead and order some also. Thanks
  21. So how big a deal is it to actually pull the driveshaft? I want to do the same thing to my bike but have been hesitant to do so. I have had the rear wheel off several times, though, so that part doesn't bother me. Is there ant tips for taking the shaft out and putting it back in/ Thanks for any info.
  22. John, Is it about an hour and a half ride into NYC do you think?
  23. Tell your mom I'm on the way! That should really get her going. LOL I appreciate the help making this trip something special for my wife. I looked up the info for Bushkill Falls and that definitely will be on the list of things to do. It looks neat just by the pics I have seen. If you come up with anything else I would greatly appreciate it. My regular e mail is whozleft@yahoo.com Thanks and ride safe.
  24. Thank you for all the helpful info. I will check into a train ride into the city. I love trains and we'll probably go by Traintown also.
  25. Hi all, My wife and I are heading to the Poconos Mountains at the end of the month. We will be in Shawnee on Delaware for a week and I am wondering if anyone knows anythuing about the area fior things to see/do while we're there. We won't be riding the bikes out since my wife doesn't enjoy "long rides" anymore. Besides, riding together in the car gives us some time to enjoy each others company and talk. I considered trailering her Vulcan out, but figure it's not worth the hassle. There is a Harley dealer about an hour away that rents bikes, so we may do that for a day or two once we get there, but that all depends. I'm mainly just looking for options of what to see or do since this is our first trip up this way. We traded our Virginia Beach timeshere for a mountain retreat this year and are looking forward to it. She has asked about running into New York City for a day. Is there somewhere in between to catch a train or something into the city/ Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks, and ride safe.
