  1. I fixed mine with a piece of dowel sanded to the right form, then glued to the side cover with Rapid-Fix. Did it back in Feb and has worked great every since.
  2. Luke, welcome to the asylum. I went to MTU a few years ago (almost 40, graduated in ‘76). You will have some great riding up there in the Late late spring, summer and early early fall. You will enjoy the ’83 Venture but as others have said plan to work on it. One item seems to really help is a Delka AGM battery has better CCA. These bikes need a little extra to get started. If your battery is a little low the bike will crank but not start. Can be very frustrating. When you check the compression if one or two of the cylinders is a little low check the valve clearance. As for the difference between the GL1200 and the Venture. The venture is more fun to ride but the wing is easier to work on and the GL1100 I had was very smooth at speed. The plastic on the wing was better. The center of gravity is much lower on the wing, at very low speed the Venture is top heavy. I’m 6’-2” and well over 250# . The motor guards on the GL1100 I had hit me in the shins when I stopped at corners and the highway pegs were needed to “stretch out”. BTW, when riding the Venture you will notice that they like to run a little higher RPM around 4000 RPM is were mine was the happiest. Look for a “maintenance day” in your area. It a great way to get help and learn about your bike and meet other riders in your area. There is a wealth of knowledge about these bikes in this group and everyone is very willing to help. Also, use the search function to search for specific problems. Good luck whichever way you go
  3. I assume that the bike is the blurr to the left of the pump behind the trees in the second picture. I'll give it to you. I thought about giving extra points originally for finding one that was also a drinking fountain and thats what you found anyway. I haven't seen one of then in quite a while, I grew up in Michigan. So I'll give it to you. Whats the next target?
  4. Thanks Brad, Just got home a short time ago and had a good trip home. Was good to see everyone today and had a great time. Food was great thanks to all that brought something, I didn't fine anything I did not like. And those were great ribs. See ya'll next time keep the shiney side up.
  5. I miss spelled it. Should have been a "pitcher" pump or a "hand pump" not a picture of a picture.
  6. How about a picture of you your bike and an old time picture pump like this one of the larger hand pump type. Good hunting and enjoy the ride.
  7. I think this will be just duckee. I know it a pretty "foul" picture but I think it will work.
  8. Could be in the cluch slave cylinder. It's located on the left side of the bike behind the middle gear cover (back cover on the left side). You can see into that area with a bright flash light. You might clean the area up with brake cleaner and then spray foot powder in that area and watch for leaks.
  9. You might not be intrested by here is one for sale in Houston. Its a Vetter side car. http://houston.craigslist.org/mcy/3234553593.html
  10. Happy Birthday Brad. You going to be amazed how quick the years are going to keep sliding by. How the Moose Tracks was good. Now get up a dance it off. :dancefool::dancefool::cool10::cool10:
  11. Pretty cool and easy. Thanks for the link.
  12. Glad he's going to be OK. The bike can alway be replaced. Prayer going out.
  13. Great video. Wish I could do that well on skates.
  14. Sounds good I try to make it if that weekend is open. Hopefully it will be good weather.
  15. I have been told you can put them in Red dye ( LIKE DYING CLOTHES) and it will turn them back to red. I also heard that you can paint them with candy red model airplane paint.
  16. Have you checked the big main fuse just off the battery on the red lead? When you say "nothing" do you have lights or anything or does the starter just not turn over?
  17. Try a straight edge on the rotor. I had one on an old goldwing that I could not get hard. Finally found that the rotor was warpped like a bowl. That was enough to make the travel too much. Drove me nuts for quite a while. I even replaced the master cylinder ( after a rebuild on the original), new brake lines and bleeding the system about 20 times, etc.
  18. Might try peanut butter. Many times the oil in it will soften the adhesive.
  19. Should be able to see Copper Habor from there too. I went to Michigan Tech a few years ago,,,,, About 40 years. Took my open water scuba dive in Copper Harbor on December 15. That waters cold even in the summer, Didn't think I'd ever have kids after that.. Your in beautiful contry. Enjoy the ride.
  20. Unloaded the bike this morning and fired it up. Did a heat check on the exhaust and looks like the front cylinder was not firing. PLan to replace the plugs today and see if that makes a difference. He just trailered it in from Florida. HE does not get to ride it much since he's off shore alot.
  21. My son has a recent problem with his bike (see above) it seems like a couple of the cylinders are not kicking in at the lower RPM's after about 3000RPM he said it feels like they are kicking in and running correctly. He has already run some seafoam through it. It is fuel injected orther wise i would think it was fouled pilot jets. Looking for other ideas.
  22. Dish network screwed my mother ( winter Texan). Told us to set up two different accounts and then put one on Vacation when she went back to Michigan. After 6 months on Vacation they turned it back on without any notice. I noticed the additional billing when up there last summer and they basically said too bad. I have Direct at my house and they have been good for about ten years now.
  23. Good looking bike. Weclome to the site. Enjoy working and ride'n on the old girl. Hope the work goes well and you enjoy many great miles on her.
  24. I don't care if you are old or young you have to watch this guy. He is a Christian comedian, too funny not to watch!!!
  25. Looks like your needle jet screw is missing. If you look in the manual on Page 4-1 there is a screw and washer at the top of the jet block holder that is missing. It holds the jet seat in place in the jet holder. See http://labs.trunkful.com/vrmanuals/index.cfm for the manuals if you don't have one. There is a small pin in the side of the jet holder that keeps it in line. That could be why that one did not move back into place like the other one did. Only way to fix would be to pull the carbs and open them up. I hate to say you got a screw loose...... But if two of the jet seats are moving out I think you got more than one screw loose. I'm sure others will chime in on this. Good luck.
