    Goo Gone

I just put on my second clearview that I found for a awesome price last week. it had been stored for about 2 years in the original box. My Question is will Goo Gone hurt the windshield? I mounted it and started to peel off the plastic covering they put on. but from sitting so long. I have a small area about the size of a grape fruit were it left some sticky stuff. Thanks for Ideas. Just wanted to check before I tried it. Otherwise the shield is in perfect shape. Jeff
  2. The pictures below are of the passenger seat and upper corners of the backrest. I showed some members at the Henry Ford M&E and the thought was it could be the dye or glue seeping through. It feels like tree sap, very sticky when the sun is out. The light colored spots are where I've tried Goo Gone on it, the real dark areas are new spots. It started out just on one corner of the seat and now pretty much spread across the entire rear of the seat. (the white spots are fibers from a towel I put on the seat so my Daughter didn't stick to the seat) Last Sunday at the M&E the Right upper corner was just starting to get sticky. Yesterday the Left corner started and is a mess today. When the sun is out it gets VERY sticky and will stick on your fingers. When cool at night barely sticky at all. Whats going on here, any guesses? First two pictures is of the seat, next one is Left upper corner (just started) last one is of right upper corner, you can see how much color has came out of the seat using Goo Gone in the last picture. Goo Gone doesn't do anything to get the sticky gone, just seems to take color away.
  3. I really struggled to get the residual stick-um off the tank when I took the stickers off my 05. Some people say Goo Gone works, but didn't do nuthin for me. I also tried acetone, paint thinner, lighter fluid, WD-40, alcohol, etc. etc., and NONE of it really seemed to help much. Some softened the goo to make it a little easier to scrape, but still left a lot of residue. Took me a long time and a lot of hard scrubbing with a rag to eventually get it all off. I dreaded this chore on my 07, but I found a perfect solution! Goof Off (any hardware store) will eat at the plastic sticker and soften the stick-um, making it pretty easy to scrape the sticker off with a thumbnail, but the leftover stick-um will still be hard to wipe completely off. I found a spray can of stuff from MG Chemicals at Fry's Electronics called Label & Adhesive Remover that takes the glue off just as easy as wiping up jelly with a wet sponge! Didn't seem to do much on the sticker, so I made it a two step process - Goof Off first to scrape the sticker, then a quick spray on the leftover goo and a wipe with a rag and done. Sooooo much easier than the fight I had with my first RSV, and no waiting around for the stuff to eventually get soft - almost instant gratification. The whole job couldn't have taken more that a couple of minutes. Goose
  4. I recently removed the front "eyelashes" from the fairing on my RSV. Most people that have done this recomended WD-40 to get rid of the sticky residue. That didn't work. So I went and bought some Goo Gone. I applied it as the directions read and it did no good. Then I decided to apply it and leave it for a few hours and see if it would soak in. That didn't work. I have tried rubbing alcohol, windex, and even at risk of harming the paint I tried acetone. NOTHING IS WORKING! I sat with the fairing on the floor and rubbed until my fingers were raw and only got about an inch clean on one side. HHHEEEELLLLPPPP!!! Short of sanding the paint off, I cannot think of anything else to try. On a plus note the Goo Gone did take the road tar and bugs off the lower fairing. I guess it wans't a total loss.
