  1. . Hello, Just curious, where di you place the lube and what type did you use? I have mine out to do this procedure at the moment but I can't find a answer for either of these questions. thanks for any help you can provide. Jim
  2. Hello, Does anyone have or know of a supplier for the rubber boot that covers the trip odometer for the early Ventures. The square boot that appears to be damaged in most photos I've seen of Ventures that are being sold. I'd like to purchase a couple of them while I have my instrument cluster off my bike. Thanks for any information. jim
  3. Hello, New member here. I have an 84 venture royal that started having a problem that has me baffled. Hoping someone can help. I get a "horn" sound from my bike as i accelerate sometimes. It started out very infrequent but has been sounding more often lately. It starts out at a low volume and gets louder, based on the acceleration and deceleration of the bike. It usually stops after one sequence of speeding up and slowing down. I have disconnected the power to my horns and it still happens. I have found no reference in my tech manuals for any other warning sounding device on the bike. Help, please anyone. Merry Christmas to all Update Ok, got the cluster out, where/how do i lube the speedo? do i need to take the cluster apart or can lube be squirted into the cable entrance? What type/grade of grease is required? Where did you guys obtain this knowledge, trial/error? I want to learn as much on this as i can. I know I am losing 2nd gear, slippage is increasing in frequency. Any advice in this issue. thanks for any possible help. Update-Fixed It. any help on references for fixing 2nd gear slippage would be appreciated, Im at 59,657 mileage and it slips more each day its ridden. jim http://www.venturerider.org/forum/images/smilies/cool10.gif thanks
  4. absolutely nothing, no lights, clicks or anything. i also took the main fuse block apart and cleaned of some corrosion caused by its location next to the battery.
  5. I heard about this forum from the gentleman i purchased my bike from a year ago. it has been such a good bike I've had no issues so I spent my time riding instead of logging on. I do have an issue that came up today. I have a fully charged batter, fuses all check out, ground appear to be in place but I have NOTHING when i turn the key. it ran fine yesterday. help anyone!! Update: after taking off a bunch of plastic and removing the radio, i found a broken switch. not sure what it is, want to order a new one. it is a switch that attaches to the main buss fuse and is mounted inside the radio compartment. it has a knob that you push/pull to make something work. after i put the switch pieces back together, i now have power. it doesn't look like the kill switch (1NL-82501-00-00) that the yamaha dealer suggested. any guesses out there. help!!!! thanks for your time and input. final solution: I figured out the switch mystery. A previous owner put in an anti-theft switch. I found a perfect match at O'Reilly auto parts. A 75-amp push/pull switch. I'm going to get a new one and replace the one I reassembled previously. Thank you to all who gave me possible solutions.
  6. hello, does anyone sell a battery that allows the sensor to be used. if not, how is it disable so the light goes out on my panel?
  7. I recently put on a new set of driving lights. I use them only for night riding, i work 2nd shift so i ride home in the dark. my 84 royal had a set of KC's on it but they were toast so i got new ones. Whoever wired them up shouldn't have. I wired them to the power side of my high beam so that they only work when high beam is on. that way i didn't have to keep turning them off when on-coming traffic approached. I aimed the lights so they fill in the area between the range of the high beam and the front of the bike. THe lights are wired to a separate switch so i don't have to have them on all the time if I'm using the high beams. It has worked very will and there is not particular high drain on the battery or charging system. All the wiring is done through the headlight and the wiring from the lights is run through the right side compartment with the radiator bottle. I hope this helps, I sure can see much better with them. If I were to add any rear lights I would run them through the rear light circuit and separate switch as well. Sebring Jim
