I should add that I sure enjoyed Charlie's visit. He's a real northern gentleman (from Sudbury Ontario), and he takes great pictures!

Like MasterGun says, it's not unusual for a whole family to load onto small bikes or scooters in some parts of the world. My wife brought me some pictures from India that also amazed me. It could be?

For the record, Charlie did the BBQing - fish and steak - the meal was fabulous!

Spent most of today riding with Charlie. A couple of times, he couldn't resist and opened it up in front of me. What a sight as he accelerated from about 60 mph to over 100 mph in what seemed like seconds --- and yes, his arthritis was bothering him.

Abdul - would sure like to join you and others but I will still be at the cottage (and planning to ride to Sudbury tomorrow). Hope to connect with you for a ride once I am back in Toronto - maybe to Haegens again. Evan

The first time I was an empty nester, I got used to it real quick - then my daughter returned to live at home while she went back to school. That was a bigger adjustment. Enjoy your month. Leftovers can also be liberating and extra underwear for Brad is not too expensive unless his taste is - well - different.

Lost Saddlebag Lid
Evan replied to Johnxfly's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Lost my left lid on a freeway last year. Fortunately, when I went back, it was in one piece on the shoulder of the road. I did the type of hanger mod described by BlackOwl and it worked great. However, I used standard coated electrical wire and three of the wires broke at the connector due to normal use, so I changed the wires to nylon cord. Have seen several lids on ebay recently, as well as a pair or lid hangers. -
Needle Shim Mod
Evan replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I know what Condor says is what your should expect. However, my 88VR seems to be a bit different. I often ride to my cottage which is about a 250 mille run - mostly on 4 lane divided highways. Over the past year, both before and after I did Skydoc's shim mod and replaced my diaphrams, my mileage on that run doesn't seem to be affected much by running speed. I am getting better mileage after the mods, but cruising at a higher speed (just under 75 to avoid tickets) just dosen't seem to affect my mileage much, or as much as other factors such as head wind. -
Exhaust pipes
Evan replied to titansedriver's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Larry - I noticed the same holes when I was checking out my 88 VR. Thought they were signs of old mufflers going bad. Mentioned that to the owner and he reduced his asking price for the bike. After I bought teh bike, I asked and got similar info as you are now getting. Great Forum!! -
If at first you don't succeed.....

Good story Jack that finally had a good ending that might encourage the rest of us 1st gen owners who are trying to keep a 20+ year old Venture on the road. Hope you have many good rides!- 16 replies

Looking for driver intercom cable
Evan replied to kbran's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Interesting Jason. I have an old cable that I would like to fix by changing the 5 pin din connector. Where can I find a connector? -
Hey David - Hope you enjoy your retirement. I am now reired and I can't figure out where my time goes. Never seem to have enough to do everthing I woudl like to do. This seems to be a common experioence among us retired folks.

Good luck Dave with finding and installing another headset to make your ride with Bernie more enjoyable. Hope you enjoy Zion. It is amazing!
-
Hey Dave - Glad to hear you had a good trip from Toronto and made it to the airport in time to pick up Bernie. Sorry to hear about the helmet. Enjoy your ride with your new helmet!

Brian - I tried to buy local but couldn't find anyone who sold these grips. I researched US suppliers and only found this one supplier (actually, the manufacturer I think) that normally doesn't retail but when I told him the problem I was having in finding a retail supplier, he agreed to sell directly to me. I went back to Snow City and showed them the grips and also gave them the name of a Canadian distributor, but they have not yet stocked these grips.

Hey Brad - The grip covers that I bought and really like are in their motorcycle section called Grab On Grip Covers (see picture from the grabon site). I don't have the correct size code with me (I'm working at the cottage), but I will post it to you tomorrow night. http://www.grabongrips.com/images/large/grab_on_grip_covers_500.jpg

Some plastic pieces needed
Evan replied to Cruser's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
In case you don't find the parts you are looking for, I lost my plastic cover last year and got a new one from Yamaha for around $20. They still had them in stock. -
Good pics Dave to illustrate this way to change tires which looks much easier and quicker. It was a fiddly and time consuming job to remove my bag and muffler when I changed my back tire at MD.

Rip - There is no excuse for that kind of accident. sounds like it could have happened to any of us. I feel for you and I hope the driver who caused it was charged and pays enough to trigger a change in his driving style. Good to hear that you were not hurt more than you were.

Wish I could join you folks today but I am in Northern Ontario. Have a great July 4th!
-
Wayne - Please thank Robin for taking and sharing the pics - they tell a great story. I'm sure glad I was able to join the group thanks again for putting it all together.

This is a wonderful idea and I would gladly participate when we get the donation process in place.

Hey Sleepy - Maybe I can help as I get to North Bay on a fairl regular basis. In fact, I am there now and will ride back to Toronto mid week. Let me know if you would like me to pick up some parts while I am here if they ar not too bulky to carry back on my bilke. We get to the Woodstocl areas fairly often to visit my wife's family or I could drop them off at Marcarl's sometime.
