  1. I run 2oz. front and rear for my RSMV.
  2. When you get closer to retirement, THINK SOUTH. That is why this Nebraska boy is here in North Carolina.
  3. My late winter maintenance this year is to change out all the hoses, thermostat, o-rings in thermostat housing and thermo switch at housing. As some of you know I have a lot of miles and it is past nine years old. I plan a 5,000 mile ride in April so I am going to start on this soon. My question is "is there anything else I should be looking at". Last spring I put new tires on and lubed the swing arm, pins, and differential. I change the rear oil when I change the engine oil and clean the K&N filters. After these 135,000 miles this bike has been flawless although I lost the CB last summer.
  4. I had six years on a stock battery and it was still going strong. I put in a Deka AGM last spring. The stock battery has been on a shelf since then, and I put my tender on it last week and it was fully charged still.
  5. I thoroughly enjoyed the the halftime...that is when I fell asleep and woke up at four this morning.
  6. Mike G, I take it back, you are a superman.
  7. I cut my teeth on two Cushmans. One was a step through model with the stick on the left. It was too sissy for me so I did some swapping and wound up with a motorcycle style Cushman with wind screen and jocky shift. Had a lot of fun on that one but I don't remember what models they were. I know the second was not a Silver Eagle, but it may have been an Eagle. This was all in the late 50's.
  8. You're in for a bunch of responses. It is a gas additive to stabilize gasolene for extended periods and clean carbs and fuel injectors. It is very popular with Venture enthusiasts and I use it also. I have used Lucas and Stabil in the past and they worked also. Since I live in the south I usually get to ride monthly so I use it more for my tractors and mowers, etc.
  9. True enough, but I know my gauge is accurate.
  10. Q. May I perform any or all of the recommended maintenance shown in the Owner's Manual instead of having the dealer do them? A. Yes, if you are a qualified mechanic and follow the procedures specified in the Owner's and Service Manual. We do recommend, however, that items requiring special tools or equipment be done by Yamaha motorcycle dealer. [sic] I have stayed out of this post because I could see where Dave's problems were heading. I have turned wrenches for fifty years on all sorts of motors and transmissions. Problem is I never did it as a job. Therefore I am NOT a professional mechanic, but I am a qualified mechanic. Since that is what the statement is above, then I can service my engine oil. And in fact I always have, and I keep a log of everything done by me or another service facility. I don't keep the purchase records. This being said my RSMV has been out of warranty for four + years. I wish you well, Dave, and I believe that a service log written in hand and kept up to date will suffice.
  11. This is all nice and good, but I use a maual approach and check my tires with a calibrated gauge very often. I feel that my life is worth more than a controlled system that may have an error.
  12. Thanks to you guys I have ordered the engine gaurds from Cruiser Customizing and will order the screen after I fit the gaurds.
  13. I am looking for a wind screen and engine gaurds for my 89 Virago 1100. Does anyone have any idea where to go?
  14. Very tough here in my adopted home town of Bessemer City, NC. Temps today around 65 with sun. Problem will be winds gusting to 25-30 mph. Not a day for me on the mc. I pray everyone in the path of the blizzard fair well.
  15. My 02 RSMV is over nine years old now with 135,000 miles. My next maintenance before spring includes changing out all radiator hoses, radiator cap, thermo sensors, thermostat, o-rings, copper gaskets and anything else related to the cooling system.
  16. No, the fluid just backs up into the resevoir. Then when you install the new pads and re-position the calipers on the rotor, pump the brakes a few times to reseat the new pads. Then check your fluid level.
  17. I spent my day in south North Carolina doing garage things. I rode Thursday and I will ride tomorrow with 65 degree weather. Just had things to do today!
  18. If you use your front brakes as they should be used, you will get good mileage for the rear brakes. I run the mountains here in NC and TN and the rear brake gets used a lot. Good luck and keep the upside up.
  19. I also congratulate you. My wife and I were married in 1971, but there have been problems over the years. We separated on two different occasions, but now we are very happy with each other and our fortieth anniversary this summer will be great. Through it all (and I can't stress this enough) she remained my best friend.
  20. Pucker factor on 10 scale...85!
  21. Hypoid 80-90 is specified.
  22. I have run D 404's on my 02 Venture since the Brickstones were removed. I have no problem with them and really run the c**p out of them. My 02 has 135,000 miles and other than the original 6,000 miles on Brickstones that is all I have ever run. Never had a problem. I forgot that I did try the Metzler 880 after the originals and that was a disaster. So give me 125,000 miles of smiles for the Dunlop D 404.
  23. Yep, looks like a vintage school bus sans children.
  24. All I can say is...HUHH What the??? I don't speak tech.
