Info on break in period
Sylvester replied to albyzee's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
"Ride it like you have had it for 10,000 miles". The Venture engine does not need break-in time. I have 135,000+ miles on mine and when I bought it, the head mechanic told me that. I have never had any issues with the machine. -
I stand corrected!

Wasn't a 78 model a 1000cc? Can't remember!
-
I am guessing a 1200 GW. Nice bike. I have had an 82 and a 83.

Who is going to be left (if all the dealers close) to sell and service the NEW Venture?

Krylon!

I rode back last summer for a (get this) grade school reunion. The reunion was great and re-established child hood friends, but the T storms and heat liked to kill me. When I left Omaha and headed toward Dallas, TX I hit the worst winds in Kansas I have ever ridden in. I kept pushing ahead and hit Oklahoma and soon the heat went from 87 to 97 and very humid. Enough... I will stay where I am and complain. Go Huskers!

Well here we go again. Winter storm in the SE for the second time this year. Why did I move away from Nebraska? Getting really hammered with 5" on my deck already and it is supposed to snow all day and then turn to freezing rain. I think I will hybernate. Pictures will follow!

Oh yeah, I know your pain. I have the original bucket from my 02 RSMV in the attic. It punched the bottom out of the bucket even though it was supposed to have the cushion under it. I really think some mechanic forgot to install the cushion and later said "Oh s@#%" and threw away the incriminating evidence. I think that if needed I could make the original work again.

Fix the fairing tabs. If left unattended there will be additional damage in the future. The rubber boot at the back of the light housing simply pulls off. Remove the pin for the adjustment shaft and remove two housing screws (allen head), then simply pull forward and work with plenty of room. If you can, always use heat shrink tubing. If not use liquid electrical tape, let dry and put standard tape over it. The type of fuse you use makes little difference. They all work the same.

"Congratulations! You have won..."
Sylvester replied to a topic in Computer help and tips for using this site.
If $1000 would make you rich, then you are much better off than I am. As far as the computer goes, I can't help you. I have to have my wife turn this one on every morning and when she comes home at night she shuts it off.- 11 replies

Hey Mel, I am always political. And I would use it if I couldn't afford the alternative. Hopefully my ship will come in.

First time I have seen/heard of them. May be an OK set up, but if I have to trike I want it to be a true three wheel configuration.

Lake Superior Circle Tour (counter-clockwise)
Sylvester replied to Prairiehammer's topic in Watering Hole
I think that it would be more challenging if you made the ride in the winter! :whistling: -
You have a great nail gun there. I have had my set (framer, finish and brad nailers) for six years now and they work great. I am in remodeling so they get a lot of use. I had the pancake compressor but the switch went bad. They wanted too much for the switch so I bought a Harbor Freight 4hp compressor for less than the cost of repairs. I purchased mine as a set from Home Depot. Good luck with yours and remember to oil them before use.

New choke knob from Starparts
Sylvester replied to Freebird's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If I didn't already have a Barons ball milled knob, I would get one from Starparts. -
Best of luck and recovery. It won't be long and I will be there also. Bionic (to be) man

Never use petroleum or caustic substances on plastic. Totally melts it down. Just as bad as brake fluid. I won't tell you how I know!

Engine Temp Guage Question
Sylvester replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Condor, I am assuming you are going to use the tank pod from the 1990's that was popular until the inventor died. If that is it, my buddy has this on his 06 RSV. I know it is hooked up to his OEM sensor. I could look to see how it is attached for you. The warning light is on the dash gauge cluster for his. Let me know. -
Come on down to North Carolina, where we have had the coldest December on record plus snow. That is why I left Nebraska in 1986. All things considered I would rather stay here. At least I got to ride a few times since Thanksgiving and if we have a normal January/February I will get a lot more riding in.

I have not found the pump. I looked a number of times. I don't remember giving it away to anyone but at my age I may have. Sorry!

Engine Temp Guage Question
Sylvester replied to Condor's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you use an electronic gauge there is a way to mate it with the heat sensor on a Venture. I don't know the procedure. The manual gauge hooks up like "Scarylarry" said. I was one of the early people to hook up the gauge and I had trouble with the crush washer. Ponch told me to try the O ring and it works great. Not a problem!
