  1. This sure got me more times than I care to admit!
  2. I had a 2000 Ultra and only put 9k miles on it. I liked the ride comfort of the bike and the performance was good. I changed tires at 8k on it. My particular problem was the charging system. The stator went bad five times, leaving me stranded in different cities. After the last time I sold it. Since then I have had the same RSMV and have no complaints. A couple months ago I rode a friends Ultra (2009) and was amazed at how little foot room there is on it. Got back on my RSMV and really enjoyed stretching out on it.
  3. I have an 02 RSMV and ride with a heated jacket and gloves. I always turn off the passing lights when I run any heated items. The jacket pulls the most but I can change the temp with the remote. The gloves could run forever and not pull down the system. I also have all LED turn, mark, and brake lights. This bieng said I only run the jacket when needed. The gloves I keep on most of the time below 32 degrees. I do not believe in the high output stators since they only put out marginally more and tend to have sealing problems.
  4. That is why I am making this ride. The body is failing and this may be my last big ride. I want to make this ride and my wife is iffee whether she approves of it. I will leave on April 6th which also is my 65th birthday. Got to love bikers.
  5. My 02 Midnight Venture and I are going on a 4600 mile trip in ten days. This machine has 138,000 miles on it now. I have no fear that it will get me there and back.
  6. I have never seen a "Yamaha" wrap around back rest. I have for my wife a set of Diamond R arm rests and she is good with those. The stock bike comes with a Yamaha wrap around back rest albeit nothing like a GW or HD Ultra. Good luck.
  7. Don't got none of them nufangled contraptions. I use a map like my ancesters. All in all it is a easy route to follow and we want to spend time at the Canyon and Monument Valley. The rest is to meet Star Touring and Riding members in Tucson.
  8. Thanks to all. My traveling partner is a good distance rider also and will run with me as fast as I go. He and I are both former LEO's so we run hard. We expect that our visiting moments will be at Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. The stop at Four Corners is only for a picture. Having lived in Nebraska I have been to this area before, but that was two decades ago.
  9. I have made my prayers and Claire was the subject. Remembe,r this can be beaten. I had T cell lymphoma in 1983 with 40% survival rate. I have never looked back and love each day I wake up.
  10. I am leaving Charlotte, NC and riding 4600 miles out to AZ on I20 & I10 and back via Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, Four Corners, Amarillo, Texarkana, Nashville and home on I40. Can I average 55 mph? There are two of us, both on Ventures. I would like to make it in 10 or 11 days.
  11. Sound a lot like BUBs. Great sound.
  12. You can find them at the Dennis Kirk site.
  13. I love the low windshield for solo riding, but my wife complains about the wind buffeting her. I bought the Clearview XL windshield to use on dual ride trips. My wife loves it. No more getting beat around since she sits higher up. They have a recurve shield that really kicks the wind up and above the passenger. Best money spent by me, ever.
  14. Furniture desease-when you chest falls into your drawers.
  15. What series Ford N is the tractor? Love those Fords!
  16. It all has to do with being the son of a woman that loved to cook. I loved my mother so rather than have her unhappy, I ate her food...all of it.
  17. Does it come with a cassette player?
  18. According to my computer the site is not available.
  19. You can't get the cruise control to work at 60 in fifth. I can only get mine to work at 75 in fifth. Under that I have to be in fourth, not enough rpms in fifth for the cc to work properly.
  20. That is a great question. If the temp doesn't reduce when the fan comes on, and continues to rise...I think you are close to melt-down. I have never heard of a Venture over heating to that extreme. I start mine up in the shop every 2-3 months and let it run until the fan comes on. Therefore I am assured that it is working. The light is a different animal in that I have never seen it on.
  21. I believe that you are correct and the water at the sensor is more accurate. My gauge (third one) reads 220-230 without the fan kicking in. My buddy with the electronic gauge on the tank pod runs at 190-195.
  22. I like the GW and the looks don't bother me, but when I sit on one my knees hit the dash and with floorboards it is worse. I rode a HD Ultra of my friend a month ago to take it for inspection and had the same cramped feeling. Poor old Sylvester will have to go another ten years.

  24. Does that make you a "dealer"? Curious minds want to know.
