  1. But I will be keeping the Venture for now, just hoping Yamaha comes out with a surprise for 2012 {Quote} I think we are all hoping for a Venture surprise from Yamha next year!
  2. You can order LED reflector/lights from J C Whitney or J&P Cycle. I have had them for years and they work great.
  3. Thanks and noted. I changed the oil again at 2250 miles after driving it to Dallas, TX and back. It had the Sea Foam (7.5 oz.) in it for the whole trip. The oil was very clean, the filler cap was clean, and the motor ran flawlessly. I understand that I may have a shorter life engine than some but this 4.7 is running very well. I had a Ford 4.6 that ran 240 K miles. I appreciate all the input.
  4. No there is no milky color. I use Valvolene oil and change every 3,000 miles. What about using the Sea Foam every change for a while at least?
  5. I changed my oil and noticed a lot of sludge on the filler cap. This is an 02 Dodge Ram 1500 with the 4.7 V-8. That was about 2200 miles ago and I added 7.5 oz. of SeaFoam to the oil when I put it in. I also installed a new PCV valve. The truck has 126.5K miles now and I have never had a problem with it. Question: Can I continue to use the SeaFoam with each oil change or should I change from dino oil to synthetic? And would either of this make any difference? There is a forum that really blasts this engine for too small journals and cylinders dropping out plus engine seisures with low mileage, but I have never had any problems other than the sludge starting to build.
  6. If that Lincoln welder works, it will be a great piece of equipment. If it has a six volt battery, do not let anyone jump it with twelve volts or it will be toast. Not just the starter but the whole welding unit.
  7. I have no probem with the Wing, I have had a couple over the years. I like the simplicity of a bike without too much amenities. I never use my CB, I rarely use the cruise and I don't like the ABS. That being said I think the GW has a definite place for many riders.
  8. Yes they checked the voltage regulator on the first breakdown, then replaced it on the second, and then after that they checked everything they could but never found the problem. Ergo...get rid of it. I was told after I unloaded it that HD came out with a new stator and regulator assembly.
  9. "I can tell you that I will never own another Mopar." And like you and your Dodge Ram Mega Cab, I will never own a HD again! PS: I drive an 02 Dodge Ram and like my 02 RSV, I have had nothing but maintenance items done on it.
  10. I do not want to stoke the fires. But I bought a 2000 HD Ultra-Classic in 1999. It was the most beautiful machine I ever saw. I was proud to pay $21,500 for it and add $3000 in chrome. I wish that was the end of the story. I ride a lot of miles a year and my new Ultra left me stranded in Dalla, TX at 1900 miles. Under warranty they replaced the stator. At 3100 miles it left me stranded in the Poconos, but they fixed it under warranty (stator). At 4900 miles I was left on the side of the road in St. Louis, MO (stator) but it was fixed under warranty. At 5800 miles I was again on the side of the road in Raleigh, NC (stator) but they repaired it under warranty. Guess what! At 7800 miles it left me on the road in my own town Charlotte, NC (stator). The dealer I bought it from would not come get it-I had to pay to get it to him. All the other times the dealers came and got the bike. The dealer told me it would be three weeks (what the F***). All the other HD dealers had me out at least overnight. "My sealing dealer had to build bikes for Myrtle Beach" is what I was told. Now after all this...do you think I would keep this machine and ride it cross country? Hell NO. I got it fixed at another dealer and trailered it to a seller and told him to get rid of it. I now have 135,000 miles on an 02 Royal Star Venture and never had a problem...not one.
  11. I had to change out my 55W passing lights to 35W when I started using a heated vest. I have always used heated gloves without a problem but with the vest it dropped my voltage meter under 12V. Now it is under 13V but I only use the vest heat off and on since it is so warm and holds the heat.
  12. The RSV water pump has no rubber vanes or vanes of any sort. Use whatever anti-freeze you like. I do.
  13. The Vision always looked like something the circus clowns would ride around. That being said, I will never ride one.
  14. Tried the GW in 2001 when I chose the RSMV as my final ride. Nothing has changed whether it is loaded or not. I am not into ABS or the other things. After 51 years of riding the RSV is all I need for the rest of my life. Anyway I have way to much extras to get rid of Sylvester.
  15. Just whistle as best you can because it is just as good and the deer whistles. I have tried honking my air horns at them as I slowed down and they just looked at me.
  16. If you post the company and web site, I would be grateful. I have always prefered a hack but I may go with the tri.
  17. Dead on Y D, but you don't want the high charge rate of the car alternator. That is why I just use the car battery without the engine running.
  18. That is it!!! Thanks Dennis, I will order one now. Yu da man.
  19. 12 volts is 12 volts and that is all. You can get it anyway you want. Get a bunch of D cell batteries it you want. Amps are something different and Freebird was right with don't run the engine.
  20. What I would like to see is a tire gauge that has a 90 degree head. That way I could get it on my front wheel (RSV) without having to bend the stem. The rear is a piece of cake. I have heard of some who put a 90 degree stem on the wheel and maybe that is what I will wind up doing. Don't no why I am complaining, I have only had the bike nine years and 135,000 miles.
  21. Yeh, I do a lot of carpentry but I could not resist. I will take some pictures of a wooden Indian motorcycle and post them. This guy was a true craftsman as the pics will show. It is on display at the Indian dealer in Lowel, NC. I asked the dealer if he owned it and said no. The guys widow now owns it and won't take less than $70,000 for it. It is a work of art. Maybe a week before I can get it posted, but you will not believe some of the details.
  22. I have been working on this for about a week and I have had some successes and failures. Take a good look and tell me where I need to consentrate my efforts.
  23. I helped my bud put a "s" plow on the front of his ATV last week. He said he was not going to shovel snow anymore...we live in south central North Carolina. I have only seen snow three times in twenty years and it melted the same day.
  24. That is very disturbing and I thank both of you for posting it.
  25. I use Advance Auto's brand mixed 50/50 and have for years. My mechanic uses it also.
