  1. I have 132,000 miles on an 02 Venture without any problems.
  2. I have a cell phone and have had it for four years. I have been offered new phones and they are not heavy enough for me to know that they are still on my belt. All I ask is that the phone rings and either I answer it or they leave a message. Do you think that I am a dinosaus? My daughter does!
  3. The clutch pull will soften back into the original but the friction zone will stay tight. At least that is what mine did. I had the friction starting at the beginning of the lever pull but it has settled back to about 3/8" from beginning. The clutch really grabs.
  4. I too was never in the military but I was in Viet Nam from early 66 to mid 67. I was working for a company doing construction for the Army Corp of Engineers. I tried to enlist but I had an earlier medical condition diagnosed as acute bronchial asthma. It turned out I was allergic to bananas of all things. Never the less, once IV F always IV F. I so admired the soldiers I worked with and I still admire all soldiers living and dead. I salute you!
  5. You do not need the risers for the RSTD bars to work. I changed my cables to 2" longer (mostly because I wanted stainless), but others have not changed theirs but did re-routethe throttle cables.
  6. No, Troy did not do my seats and I never had a fear of the job not being done. The man I used is very, very good at what he does. He just cannot schedule his work on a timely manner. I would use him again and he will do a great job. I just have to keep a leash on him. Like I said earlier, I do not pay up front for anything.
  7. Had a cracked tooth this spring. My dentist wanted me to see a specialist to determine if it cracked all the way up (that way it would need removint and a crown). Specialist looked at the tooth and said "How can I tell, we will go into it and if it is cracked all the way through we will pull it. Went back to my dentist and said "PULL IT". His office keeps calling to see when to schedule the bridge. LIKE THAT WILL EVER HAPPEN!
  8. The drain plug is under the engine and the filter is below and behind the right lower fairing. You will need a filter wrench or a strap wrench to remove the filter. Very simple process. I always drain the oil first and then move the pan below the filter before removing. The plug is a 19mm (I think), do not over tighten when replacing the plug. There have been numerous cases of stripping the threads. If you are going to do maintenance on your ride, you might want to get the shop manual for it or go to the tech articles on VR. Also: Don't ask what kind of oil to use because you will get 100 answers. There is nothing wrong with staying with Yamalube.
  9. The Star emblem on the front fender could be loose. I had the problem and it sounded like what you described. I also had the plastic chrome nosing under the head light on the passing light bar get loose and drive me crazy. Look for things that you would not think of and bang on the fenders and fairing. You will probably find the annoying culpret. I have not had fork problems in 132,000 miles.
  10. I just recieved my seat, passenger seat and backrest last week that was to be ready a month ago. The craftsman did a fine job but always had excuses for why it wasn't ready. The difference in our storys is that I gave him no money up front. I am very pleased with the work but I am leary of refering him to others. If they know he is slower than he says they will be OK as long as no money is paid up-front.
  11. In 1972 while working on a regional airport in Nebraska, a farmer came over and asked if we could pull him out. He had gone into his fields and buried a Steiger 4wd tractor with dual wheels all around. There happened to be a D9 Caterpillar on our site but belonged to the dirt contractor. I put the two together and the contractor went over with the D9. The contractor knew better than to get into the mud so he ran heavy crane cable to the Steiger. When it was all said and done the Steiger was torn into front and rear. Sure glad I kept out of it.
  12. So many to choose from. I suppose you are only talking 120 VAC. Heck this time of the year they should be on sale.
  13. I installed the Baron's mini tach and did not need the controler.
  14. A 1964 Chevelle has the same distance between center of tire as the distance between train tracks. We would let some of the air out down to 20psi and get on the tracks and run down a mile or two to the next mile road and turn around and ride back. I know you are thinking about it......................................................................... Yep we saw the wig wag light coming at us from around the bend. God was good and let us make it to the mile road and bail off. That ended that chapter of my life.
  15. When he gets you satisfied, are we that posted on his sites going to have to post an apology? I may have a hard time with that. I am happy you are being taken care of.
  16. The power port on the Venture is only 5 amp. Check with Gerbing to see how much power it pulls. If more than 4 amps you will need to rewire since the wiring for the power port would not handle 10 amps well and may cause electrical failure. Using a relay would work great for this situation. Also check the power port itself for its load capacity.
  17. I purchased this tach a year ago without any problems to date. Yesterday while leaving Salisbury NC and heady about eighty miles to my house it quit near Gastonia NC. When I got home I shut of the bike and turned the key back on and the tack did not cycle like it should but the needle droped lower than 0. Today I put the key in and it went up to 8,000 and back to 0 like it should, so I started it and went for a little test run. After two miles it went back to 0. I stopped and fueled up and it is working fine again and has not acted up. I originally thoght something is loose but before I tear into it I was hoping someone else has some input. The tach may be bad also.
  18. I don't know which Adjure lights you have for $20, but I have had Adjure lenses and reflectors on my RSMV for five years and love them. They were $75+ each and I have installed PIAA 35 watt bulbs.
  19. 18 centimeters is what 3/4 of an inch? Not to be worried!
  20. Why did you change the oil in your bike so many times? I have 131,000 miles on mine and I only change it every 5000 miles. I only change the oil in my compressor (120 gal. with twin cylinder Quincy) every two years.
  21. I had the Barnett and switched to PCW. With 130,*** miles the 02 RSMV runs great. The Barnett worked good but when the last set of discs failed I went with the PCW.
  22. Rumor around here is that the dealership was for sale but no buyers.
  23. I live in the Gastonia area and I have a Sears jack and Carbon One adapter. I could meet you part way.
  24. This very large HD dealer is calling it quits. Carolina Harley-Davidson owner Diane Baldwin kept the motor running at her dealership even after the tragic death of her husband Click Baldwin in a motorcycle accident two years ago in Montana. But on Oct. 15, she will close the business that she and Click started in Gastonia 22 years ago because she’s come to the realization that “without Click, there is no Carolina Harley-Davidson,” said Jodi Sandate, a friend and spokeswoman for the dealership at 2830 E. Franklin Blvd. Diane Baldwin and Harley-Davidson Motor Co. entered a mutual agreement Tuesday to retire one of the largest dealerships on the East Coast along with the Carolina Harley-Davidson Museum. Diane Baldwin could not be reached for comment Tuesday. “Ultimately this was Click’s passion and Click’s dream and Click is no longer with us,” Sandate said. “When she (Diane) walks in that dealership, everything she sees is her late husband. All she sees are memories. This is hard for her.” Click Baldwin died in July 2008 after his 2009 Harley-Davidson struck a 1999 Honda Civic on U.S. 12 outside Lolo, Mont., and he was thrown from his motorcycle. A tremendous memorial followed his death with hundreds of riders escorting his casket and tributes from celebrities like NASCAR driver Kyle Petty. The loss of Click Baldwin was a personal and professional loss. In addition to her grief, Diane Baldwin also had to struggle with the collapse of the U.S. economy, Sandate said. A savvy businesswoman, she explored other options for the business, but eventually decided to retire, Sandate said. “It’s too much for one person,” Sandate said. “Her partner died — in more ways than one.” The Baldwins first opened the dealership in downtown Gastonia in 1988 with five employees. Over the years, the business grew, moving to a location on Remount Road and then to the 70,000-square-foot building near Franklin Square. During more prosperous economic times, the dealership employed 75. Today, there are 33 employees. On Saturday, Diane Baldwin met privately with her management and then announced her decision to employees, who comforted her and told her, “We are with you until the end,” Sandate said. Several of the staff members were working there when Click died. They supported Diane through his death and they will continue to support her through this transition also, she said. Sandate said Diane Baldwin plans to speak with her customers and the community Aug. 27 and 28 at the Eighth Annual Bikes, Boogie & BBQ , which will be the dealership’s final event celebration. After that, her immediate plans will focus on selling the building and sorting through “Click’s toys.” The dealership is also a museum full of motorcycle memorabilia and vintage motorcycles, including a 1914 Harley-Davidson Model 10-B, known as the “Silent Gray Fellow".
  25. I was talking about roads in general. I have been to Nova Scotia and they are somewhat on the bouncy side. I have been on interstate highways that were terrible (I-29 in Iowa).
