I am 5'5" so I my stock windshield pretty much protect me from the elements. Just like yesterday afternoon after work headed home, I think there were at least 10 dead bugs on my windshield all at the same time...after thinking seriously about (whether to cut the windshield) it if my windshield is shortened, I can end up having all those bug splats on my helmet and jacket. Not a pretty sight for me. I may stay OEM size for now.

I just use my Craftsman Rubber Strap wrench to remove the oil filter. Works every time.

If that was me, I probably would have gone home and picked up the truck.

Bike dies when very wet

It might be a good idea to retrofit the Venture with a rubber cap over the ignition switch. -

It could very well be the sidestand switch dilemma. My guess is it could be a fuel filter that needs to be replaced soon. -
Looks like a significant recall. I know my original rear tire is an Exedra / Bridgestones...not sure what model tire. Will check tomorrow morning.

air box all dressed up
N3FOL replied to slick97spirit's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Not bad looking. Now it looks like a modified air box. But, I wouldn't put it on my bike. Ride Safe. -
We've had some cold mornings here lately. We sure need some of the heat in your area and I think it is coming our way today and all the way up to next week. Hopefully I do not have to turn on the heat in the morning.

Wait for that Brown truck around the corner... and he'll make your day. Glad to hear that your wife is into adding accessories and hopefully more Bling for the bike.

If there are high winds in our area, I keep extra focused with both hands on the bar and ready to squeeze the throttle. On the Interstates, I find to be more stable the faster I go. Ride Safe.

Skydoc, Thanks for the report.

Well after worrying so much yesterday, I found out that if the front wheel is turned all the way to the left (on the kick stand) the clutch reservoir will appear half full. If I stand the bike straight up or front wheel turned all the way to the right, the reservoir will appear full. I guess my mistake is not really filling the reservoir 'very close' to the top. The good news is that there are no leaks anywhere. Thanks for reading.

I agree, KiteSquid on fluid levels. In my case, I simply loosened the bleeder and pumped the clutch ....refilled 3X and then topped off the reservoir and tightened the bleeder. My co-worker who is a mechanic here at work and on bikes stated that some fluid may "hide' in the system, thus it is normal if not leaking anywhere. (I think he just wants me to feel better and not worry too much:cry:)

Kbay, Not sure either ....I know it is possible when one drain the coolant from the radiator, the coolant reservoir may need to be topped off. I've never really heard this on Clutch Fluid reservoir as well. If I make it home and my reservoir is totally empty, I will start to worry. Thanks.
-
I also wouldn't use that on the splines. Majority recommends at least 60% Moly...better be safe than sorry. Ride Safe.

I have an '07, which could be a little different. I just noticed a few minutes ago that my clutch fluid reservoir is half full now after riding to work this morning. I checked and looked around and there is no leak anywhere. The bleeder is tight and no fluid is coming out. I hope I can make it home ok with a half filled clutch reservoir... Is this normal after bleeding the fluid...go for a ride...it may require to top off the reservoir after a ride?

Last night, I went ahead and replaced my Amber colored clutch fluid. I bought a set of Speed Bleeders and they are the best your money can buy. There is just one thing that was not mentioned anywhere (I've never seen it), if one wants to replace the OEM bleed valve with the SpeedBleeder type. One must remove the left rear fins that are held by 3 allen head bolts. If you don't do this, there is no way you'll be able to remove the OEM bleeder. I had to refill the reservoir at least 4 times to be certain that I have clear liquid coming out the other end. As a beginner, it took me almost an hour being careful not to spill any brake fluid. Next in line is the rear brake reservoir...it does looks dark from the exterior.

Drive Shaft With Busted Teeth
N3FOL replied to Jinksy4's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Looking at the pics and with little experience on how it is suppose to look like, it does look like normal wear and tear on the shaft. Just wondering, what if you just lube the splines with Moly60 and re-install the same shaft...will it harm anything?- 29 replies

Won 68230-97B Auxilliary Light
N3FOL replied to N3FOL's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My apologies...I guess from the last time I checked the old bulb, it looked like an 1157 with no Offset on the side contacts. I was in a hurry to get to work. Last night, I just confirmed that it is an 1157 with an Offsetted side contact. I ordered the 1.80" LED clusters that should fit the housing. This afternoon, I may go ahead and install the Aux Light/Tag holder. -
Me too. Let me know, if there are good deals that may interest us especially for our bikes.

N3FOL replied to N3FOL's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks KiteSquid. I will have to triple check the bulb that came with the assembly. The last time I looked, it is an 1157 bulb with contacts on the same plane at 180° of each other...Not Offset and the bottom of the bulb has 2 contacts. This tells me that it is a dual 1157. Most places say that an 1157 bulb will have an offset contact and has two point of contact on the bottom. I think it has an older type 1157 bulb.
