Sounds like a good idea. Plugs are not that expensive. I have over 4K miles on my plugs and may very well replace plugs by mid-summer. As for the 2 front plugs, did you have to remove the fin bracket in order to have access with the wrench?

I 2nd the idea of a one gallon container that is made specifically for flammables. It is plastic and small enough that it can fit anywhere in the Venture bags. If you are travelling alone, a 2 gallon container is a good choice and I would just put it behind you on the passenger seat.

I smoked cigarettes back in High School more during my Jr. year. I've tried alcohol as well. It is the best thing ever invented until you start to throw up. Fortunately, I never really liked smoking in college and now in my adult life. I'd rather spend my money on Bling and feel healthy. I still have to witness a rider on his bike and smoking a cigarette at the same time.

I am keeping an eye on this thread. Am also interested on what works aftertermarket wise for a LED strip that can be installed as a replacement to the OEM LED on the wing. Has anyone checked with Custom Dynamics strips?

Glad to hear you had a great time test riding the Versys. I am not a tall guy, so I assume the bike will be to tall for me. It is a Kawa isn't it?

Whinning Sound Downshifting
N3FOL replied to Highway Star's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
At deceleration, I say that is normal as well. My engine sounds like a mini turbo diesel when it starts to really warm up and go. -
I agree, 6pak. I saw a window of opportunity yesterday afternoon, but I passed on cutting the grass thinking that the grass is still wet. I may go ahead and start cutting the grass early Sunday before all the rain comes. My bike has a little over 4400 miles, so this is also the perfect time to blow out the air filters with compressed air.

What's up with all this chance of rain in the forecast up until next week. I am starting to have Spring induced cabin fever. 7 more days and I hope to see some sun in the forecast.

I've read a lot about the rear brake pads on the Venture. The inside pad really seems to wear faster than the outside. For the last 3 months, I have been very conservative on how I step on my rear brakes. Lately, I have been squeezing a lot harder on my front brakes than my rear. You did not mention anything about the condition of your rear rotor, so I assume that you caught it before it damaged anything on the brake system. Thanks for sharing your experience. Ride safe.

Check the 3rd picture. You will see a crack on the middle.
-
It looks to me the rear may have another 1000 to 2000 miles, if you really want to push it to the limit. The crack on the middle part of the tire is what concerns me the most. +1 on the cupping...not common on rear tires.

Don't forget to itemize your expenses.
-
After over 4K miles, my rear Bridgestones still has lots of tread life. (knocking on wood) I don't have any real complaints on the OEM tires to date. Ride safe.

That is the kind of emblem I don't mind putting on the side of my bike.

Hey, that sounds like workman's compensation at work. Hope you heal soon. Tell your workplace to get yourself a Trike loaner. At least you can still type on the computer. Regards.

I also have the Yamaha Trunk Spoiler, but even with the LED's not as bright...I still like them. As suggested, down the road I may go ahead and replaced the LED strips with brighter LEDs ones one or two LEDs malfunction. To supplement the rear lighting, I installed Custom Dynamics LEDs on the rear light and installed the Harley Aux Light Plate Holder and installed LED clusters in them including LED clusters on all turn signals.

The same tire manufacturer but sounds like the Elite 3 series has the least problems. I've had D404s on a bike and it was on a lighter Vulcan cruiser and was able to get 15K miles on the rear. Right now, I am sold with the Elite 3s when the time comes to change out the rear. Knowing that the GW also use Elite 3s...that can be a good assurance that the tire will hold up if you carry a lot of weight.

I want to be his friend as well.

And can almost feel what you are feeling right now. Excitement! Have fun with the project. Very nice bike...

I am 5'5" so I my stock windshield pretty much protect me from the elements. Just like yesterday afternoon after work headed home, I think there were at least 10 dead bugs on my windshield all at the same time...after thinking seriously about (whether to cut the windshield) it if my windshield is shortened, I can end up having all those bug splats on my helmet and jacket. Not a pretty sight for me. I may stay OEM size for now.

I just use my Craftsman Rubber Strap wrench to remove the oil filter. Works every time.

If that was me, I probably would have gone home and picked up the truck.
