Coolant and Brake Fluid - '07
N3FOL replied to N3FOL's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
That is exactly what I put in my cars and the same size bottle is available at our local Autozone store here in SE PA. Thanks, Squidely. -
Yes, that is all you need...one (1) Signal Stabilizer to take care of the Front and Rear. I installed mine under the seat.

What do you recommend as far as Coolant and Brake Fluid is concerned? Tips on the Coolant change? (will have to consult the Maintenance Manual ) I've seen write-ups on Brake Fluid replacement somewhere... -

I agree with you 100%. Looks like this will be in my agenda for the summer. I guess I can simply put in a 50/50 mixture of Anti-Freeze in the system, right? Prestone, maybe? Brake Fluid...maybe DOT 4 or DOT 5...not sure but I will have to check the manual first. Your offer sounds like a very nice idea:thumbsup2:. Where exactly is Duncansville? I will buy lunch and then ride... -

Hello Earl. Yes, I agree. I do majority of my car maintenance as well and it has saved me tons of money. My main question on my bike is that it is an '07 and the coolant and brake fluid has been in there for almost 2 years now...but I bought this bike brand new last year and it has only 3K+ miles. In your opinion, would you change brake fluid and coolant this year being it has been 2 years already? -

Thanks, Rod. Since my bike will be almost 2 years old and sat at a dealership for most of the time, I may tackle the brake fluid replacement sometime this summer. The coolant may happen after that...before then, I will consult this forum before I go ahead and drain coolant. -
Al, You will be much happier if you install a 'Metric Signal Stabilizer' from Custom Dynamics. Install is pretty easy and you will get the full potential of your LED's blinking at a normal rate.

I did a search regarding this, but did not find one. I bought my bike last October ('08) with only 1 mile on the odometer. It is an '07. The Service Manual stated to replace coolant and brake fluid every certain # of miles OR 24 Months. I may be closing in on 24 Months, but I only have 3200 miles on the bike. Do I still need to replace Brake Fluid and Coolant this year or Wait until I reach my 2nd anniversary of ownership?

Welcome to the forum, bendtdj. Lots of folks here that know the Venture very well...it is a great source of information. Congrats on the newly acquired bike.

Get yourself a No Load Metric Signal Stabilizer. Very easy to install (comes with installation instructions).

removed cassette, added gauges......done

Good Idea. I would probably paint the black face and mounting area the same color as the fairing. -

You probably would've kept the 8 Track. -

How This Big Old Top-heavy Bike May Have SAVED My LIFE
N3FOL replied to Aimhigh's topic in Watering Hole
Jim, stay in close contact with your doctor and do whatever they recommend you to do. My Dad is going through the same situation and he is doing much better after several treatments. Just remember, keep an eye on the side effects of all the medication your doctor prescribed to you. Because they interact with each other, this may give you a Low Blood Pressure condition and is not a good thing while you are riding your Venture. Regards. -
Noon is ok with me. We shall hope for great weather. I can meet a group of riders somewhere in the York area (coming from SE PA).

I should have known this long time ago. The law can be very convoluted in many ways and most people can not understand why including myself. IMO, the Senator probably did not have to respond on that letter. I guess they will have to go back to the drawing board.

Get one of these...it will help you adjust the idle with confidence...http://www.sjdiscounttools.com/esi325.html

Kitesquid, Thanks for all your input. This makes me more confident on tackling the job. I do want to check and might as well grease the splines on the drive shaft (summer time), but honestly I do not want to remove the rear wheel unless I am ready to replace the tire. Please tell me that it is OK to service the drive shaft without removing the rear tire.
-
I do know the 'Splines on both ends of the drive shaft'. I may also know the 'splines that connect the pumpkin to the rear wheel'. But not really sure on the 'Drive Pins' and 'Drive Fingers to the Clutch Hub'. Looking at page 7-13 (Service Manual), I may have to remove the Final Drive cover in order to get to the 'Clutch Hub'??? Honda Moly60 will be in my 'To Buy' list as well. (probably only available through a moto dealer/shop)
-
What happened? Was the drive shaft installed incorrectly? After 300 miles you started to have problems.
-
Thanks for the Link...Bookmarked it.

I have just a little over 3K miles on the bike. The rear tire still has a lot of life left. However, I do plan to grease the drive shaft splines sometime this summer. Questions: Do I have to drain the drive shaft final drive and remove the rear tire before I remove the shaft? Can I just keep the rear tire on and work on the shaft? Do I have to remove the rear muffler (left side) in order to work on the shaft?
-
Yes, I do have a set of Tie Down straps. I may opt to strap the bike on the jack instead...I am afraid my garage door opener is not strong enough to handle such weight.
-
I also have the Carbon One jack adapter with legs. With the jack centered, if I remove just the Rear Wheel and raise it high enough to clear the Rear fender to remove...will the bike tip over and fall to the front? This may be my worst nightmare in the garage.
