Hit a Brick Wall at the Finish Line!!
talonsx2 replied to igya's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I too changed the valve gaskets on my 84, the rear was a charm to replace it took a total of about 20 minutes from start to finish t gasket on the other hand a task in itself. took 2 days of back and forth or should I say mood swings to finally get that cover back on... It would probably be easir to pull the engine next time..LOL Stay safe and keep the rubber on the road.. Michael -

talonsx2 replied to Dragonslayer's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So what is the name of this kit for the fan? my 84 runs hot when sitting at lights as well and I even took the thermostat out... Stay safe and keep the rubber on the road. Michael:banana: -
Hello to all and a big thank you in advance for the replies to my questions. I have an 84 venture royale and need to have the seat reapolstered so I am wondering, is the seat so comfortable due to the ergonomics of the seat or the cushioning:icon_smile_question So when I have er redone should I replace the cushioning as well and if so what cushioning should be used:icon_smile_question Thanks again and keep the rubber on the road. So here is the question I have, can I upgrade to the R1 or R6 calipers and still keep the linked brake set up:cool10:? I have always liked the linked set up :banana:and have never had a problem with the brakes on my 84 venture but if I can stop faster than thats always a plus.... Very easy fix, just head on down to your local bike shop and buy a clutch master cylinder rebuild kit,(2KW-W0099-00-00). I rebuilt my clutch master cylinder (About $25 as well) a few months ago and I had to go buy a vacuum bleeder to get all the air out :bang head:Best purchase ever made($25.00 Harbor freight). You may also think about changing the bushing (3GM-26455-00-00) that is in the actual handle, this bushing seats the push rod that you flipped over?.... mine was rounded out quite a bit. doing both of these made a huge difference in the mechanical feel and workings of the clutch. I too was in the Navy. He will have an option to buy into a college tuition program (while in bootcamp) where he will pay $1200 (thats how much I paid) and then have three years of college paid for after that. Its a great deal of :mo money:earned and saved. The amount they pay far exceeds the amount of instate tuition. Stay safe and keep the rubber on the road. Michael

Thats funny, I had a Winger :2133:come look at my bike while at the shop and he started banging it for having a leaky valve cover so I mentioned how hard it was to get parts for the bike and that I had no second gear and then he tried talking me into "Upgrading" .I had to laugh at him. :95:I will never give up my Venture ROYALE.

Another 2nd Gear Question(s)
talonsx2 replied to 5bikes's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I bought my 84 venture in 1991 or 92 not sure??, with 34000 on the odometer and it now has a little more than 65000 on it. But I had the bike for about four months before mine went out:95:. I have been driving it this way since:Im not listening to. I am planning a tear down this winter:yikes:. Stay safe and keep the rubber on the road.. Michael -

So please let me know. Thanks for your replies.. Stay safe and keep the rubber on the road. Michael

That is what l am saying PaPPa Bear, There is nothing on the #1 carb at this time. The bike runs like a champ no studder ever.... I will check a few things that have been posted. Thank you all for your replies... PS- I was reading the post on the stolen part at the last meet and greet and it took me back 7 years when some Jack*ss decided he needed my Venture more than I. Long story short they drilled the locks and the saddle bags and got away with (1 Helmet and a pair of leather gloves). I would have given them the Helmet and gloves instead of having to deal with trying to find used bags from the salvage yard to buy the locking mechanism and then having to pay for new lock and key. Now I have 4 different keys for my bike....Its a real pain in the (insert your own word of choice). Thanks all and keep the rubber on the road.. Michael

So I finally took the carb tune out of the box (That i received two months ago)and took a dive into Synching the carbs so I got er all hooked up, got er started and well?, (I can say that my first gen 84 venture royale runs like a champ with an estimated 65000 miles on her and only running on 3?, well we'll just say 2 1/4 carbs. I can hardly wait to run on 4 carbs that are all synched together.) so back to the post, I didnt actually get to synch the carbs today because i am now going to have to rebuild at the very least one carb #1 and since IM there I might as well go ahead and do them all. I hook it all up and started it and found 1 running at 0 #2 running at around 8 and 3&4 running at 35 or so. Has anybody else found this before? and is there an easier fix for now before rebuilding the carbs? Also, does anyone have the part # for the VMAX floats that work in the first genner carbs? Can I just say that I love my royale...... :225:Thank you all for your time. Mike

talonsx2 replied to talonsx2's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I agree with ya'll. It would be nice to c a library with all that infl in it. Might save some peeps a few duckets now and again. Thanks for clarifying all the info as well. :fireman:MIKE -
So after three different posts and multiple times veiwing Freebirds Barnett Clutch upgrade thread I finally pieced it all together why my new Barnett pressure plate wont work on my 1984 VR. BECAUSE ITS A 1984 VR and not a 1986 or newer LOL. So I now have a $150.00 dollar paper weight or an almost new (never rotated in the basket) Barnett Clutch spring upgrade for your 1986 or newer VR or VMAX. My bike shop special orderd this for me and are now refusing to give me a refund. My total cost was 147. and change. I will take $145 and I will pay shipping in the US to any one who is looking to upgrade. The bolts are a little worn and the washers are scraped a bit from the bolts but other than that it is still new. Please let me know if you are interested. Stay safe :225:MIKE

Clutch ???'s
talonsx2 replied to talonsx2's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
So I tried to install the upgraded barnett and this could be a long one. took the clutch apart last week and wiated for the new barnett to arrive. Put everything back together and I thought all was well until I tried to put the bike in gear? The handle wont pull in?? I think blead the clutch to no avail.??? came to the compoter to check the web site and discover that for some reason I pulled a total of 8 friction plates out of the bike and replaced them with the same amount???? I have found in the numerous posts that there are only 6 notched and 1 UNnotched so why did my bike have 8? I took the new barnett out and put in the original pressure plate back in which worked but I cant shift into or out of gear, I can operate the clutch handle though?? The only thing that I can see different with the two pressure plates is the cap in the center of the pressure plate, the old plate has the cap but the barnett does not. Will work more on the bike this weekend. Sorry I havent posted the pics yet of the clutch hanging. cant figure my computer out?? :225:MIKE -
Time saver, lol, I wasted half bending l brackets and thought there had to be a better way for me. Being X-Navy I was used to doing different things with rope. Hope this can help someone out there.
