  2. Thinking of putting road king mufflers on. found a nice cheap set. I've seen the brackets offered here but can't find them. Thanks in advance
  3. I know that i have not been around here a lot lately, been lurking here or there, but really have not had time for much in the last several months. My wife and I are getting divorced and things have been crazy and will continue to be for some time. This was not my idea, but like it or not I have to move on and take care of the kids and myself. This is kind of a complicated story, but I cannot talk about it too much at this point because I have to do somethings to protect my kids. Unfortunately, one of the things that I must do is sell my Venture. I will be putting it and some accessories up for sale very shortly. I really hate to do this, but do not have a choice with the situation that I am in and trying to sort out all of the finances. It will not be too long though before I get another one, but may need to go to the darkside and get a 1st gen for a while. I would appreciate your thoughts and prayers, I NEVER thought that I would have to deal with all this and it is truly still dumbfounding for me.
  4. Not mine!!! Saw this '89 at a broker in Sioux Falls, SD Not a bad looking bike from this one photo. http://www.powerbrokersinc.com/show.aspx?vid=1364515&stockno=T05192 Just putting it out there. Dave

  7. Hi all... I had my front Avon replaced under warranty last week. I have about 300 miles on it. So far, I am not real pleased with the way these handle. I am planning on putting a few hundred more miles before I actually go through with the replacement I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a set of Avon Venoms (the mentioned front tire, rear tire with ~2000 miles on it, minimal sidewall cracking around rim). I am putting out a feeler to see if there would be any interest in my tires. Let me know what you think.
  8. Hello All, I got all of the parts painted, not a pro, but they look pretty good. I put the trunk and the bags on today, worked pretty well. I am kinda dreading putting the fairing halves on, alot of the tabs are gone, and I am going to have to make do with the pieces I have, also the fairing lowers have alot of the tabs gone. Any suggestions or tricks to making the pieces stay on and look good? I will post pics when I get it done. D
  9. I just wanted to express my appreciation for the excellent work Rick did on my seat. I got the seat back yesterday (FedEx made this more difficult than necessary). It looks and feel great even though the weather won't let me get it out and ride yet. **How is it you guys in PA can look at a groundhog on 2/2 and we start getting snow again in Utah?** I want everyone to know that Rick goes beyond just making a couple of changes to your seat and putting the cover back on. My seat had some challenges because of some previous damage by the PO and Rick took the time and added work to sure it was right. THANKS AGAIN!!! I'll let you know how great it is when the weather cooperates. Dave (with PMS)
  10. I received my clutch today and decided to go ahead and install it. I got it all took out and started putting it back together. I got it all back together and was putting the bolts back in the clutch plate. I was trying to torque them down with my old torque wrench and one of the bolts snapped. I finally managed to get it out after about an hour. My question is does the bolt have to be a certain kind or will any kind due? My torque wrench is the old kind that has the bar that comes up with a red end on it that moves down the gauge that tells you what your ft lbs. Do I need to invest in a newer one? Thanks hairman
  11. Well here I am in Canada snow on the ground, bike back in arkansa,Teri back in Arkansas and boy am I home sick. I cant wait to go home tomorrow I keep putting my shoes together and saying theres no place like home but it not working.
  12. Putting new brake pads front and back on my 87 VR, would like some info on which pads to use. From what I have read I should use the following configuration. Rear - standard Organic/Carbon Front - Metal Looking for some advice because there is also Kevlar and Ceramic. I purchased this ride last May and now in the process of putting on new tires front and back (going to use Dunlap 3's) and putting in new rear wheel bearings and clutch. Had to put new diaphrams, plugs, wires and Caps last year. Thanks Dan
  13. After a delay due to rain, we are heading west! YEE HAW! Sleeperhawk got his Zumo installed last night and by the way, Buddy Rich, thanks for getting the cable to us so quickly! Here are pictures of the bike LOADED to the Pony's rear! I tried putting the kitchen sink on, but there Sleeperhawk drew the line! We will keep you posted! Ride safe, Bobbie P.S. The first of many pictures to come!
  14. I'm replacing battery cables as per Squidly's specs on my '83. So far I've got the right side apart and most of the left. Hopefully i'll remember how to put it back together While I have all the trim off, anything I should look at, clean, replace or other. As Rooster said, it's a PITA and I don't care to do it too often. Second, the secondary wires coming of the battery terminals are pretty short, I am debating extending them, perhaps by putting a pull apart connector in it as opposed to straight wiring. Thoughts? Last, I have enough supplies to make another set. If you're intersted let me know. I accept credit cards. Thanks.
  15. Hey Squid if you are around, a while back I saw a post you made about putting rear back in place. And just can't remember what it was about. I haven't had any trouble yet but when putting it back should you just snug it up and then kind of tighten them down in criss-cross pattern? And how much on these things? Only 14 lb or something like that I think?
  16. ( Gunboat ) for putting this together for these 3 kids Kreg
  17. The moneypit has about 87000 miles on it. Is there a time limit on the life of the stator? Will be painting starting this weekend, and want to know if I should replace it before putting the bike back together. Also, is there anything else I should look at while it's stripped down? Any advice?
  18. I had my left side mirror busted (83 venture royale) ,broken from the base . Do you have any suggestions on replacing or putting some other mirror type on .
  19. I have a new venture and I was wondering if the baffles can be taken out of the pipes and if so how does it sound? I see on here about putting HD on them but if I can do something with mine and it not sound bad why not. Thanks for the info
  20. Does anyone have a CB Antenna they're not using or know where to get one? I made the mistake of putting my POW/MIA flag on my CB Antenna and it acted like a wrench and spun it off. Thanks!

  22. Guest

    I had a nice visit ...

... from Gary N. Over the weekend, I was having a few friends over to help me get a couple of things done to the RoadSofa (finally getting around to putting on the RK pipes, putting on the new wing/tail light, installing the Stebel Horn, etc...), and Gary came to help out. And he sure did help out too ... the wing/tail light looks great on the RSV, all courtesy of Mr Nantais himself. We managed to get in a BBQ, a ride for ice cream, a ride through some local twisties, even managed to catch an inning of one of the youngster's baseball tournaments! All that and good conversation too! Oh, and by the way ... Gary's got a beauty of a bike going there. It's a far cry from the day I went to see it in the shop - it was "nekked, as nekked can be" when I saw it in March and now, holy cow, it's totally dressed up!!! Cheers,
  23. Saw this on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/_Motorcycle-Parts-Accessories__99-to-08-Yamaha-Royal-Star-Venture-Passing-Lamp-Spacer_W0QQitemZ140237120766QQadnZMotorcycleQ20PartsQ20Q26Q20AccessoriesQQadiZ2863QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item140237120766& Is this one of us or does anyone here sell these? I would like to take one to Maintenance day or pick it up there and get some assistance in putting it on. Thanks, Jay
  24. The other day my bike started running like it's not running on all four. If I put the choke on all the way it starts to run better but still not like it should. I changed the fuel filter and swapped the fuel pump with a spare. No change. I also noticed the charging system is not quite up to snuff. It's putting out just under 13 volts at 2000rpm (checked at the battery) instead of the required 14-15 it should be putting out. I know that if these bikes don't have a good battery they don't want to run right. But I would think 12.8 volts would be sufficient. I would also think that if it was the charging system causing the problem that choking it would make no difference. Except for flooding it maybe. All that being what it is. I will put in a spare rectifier & or spare stator this weekend to hopefully solve the charging problem. I don't think that will solve the lean situation however, (only makes since). What else could cause the lean burn? It wasn't the filter or pump. If my assumptions are incorrect or if I'm missing something obvious, please point it out. What do these bikes act like when there are holes in the carb diaphragms? Thanks to everyone in advance. With these gas prices at $3.45, I NEED my bike.
  25. Geez, I know better than this! I pulled into my driveway after a nice ride on Saturday. For some reason, I had a brain fart and tried to do a u-turn at 1 mph so that I could back the bike into the garage. Well, I thought I could do this without putting my foot down so I ended up dropping the bike. At least I was able to practice the maneuver for picking up your bike from Ride Like a Pro! Good news is that nothing was damaged.......well, except my pride!
