  1. I'm sure a few people have seen this before, but I just found out from a friend of Yellow Wolf's (the rider of the Goldwing) that he was testing a car tire off a mini cooper on the back of his Wing during this run and he ran about a 14 minute time, 3.5 minutes slower than his best on Metzeler bike tires. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nrMQ3QwyPo&feature=player_embedded]YouTube- deals gap on a goldwing/gl1800 by yellow wolf dragons tail[/ame]
  2. I sat on a Wing today. They handle great and have lots of power, but just not comfortable enough for me.
  3. You will get a hundred different views, and that is just from a couple dozen of us here:big-grin-emoticon: Manual says to change every 4000mi. I use synthetic and double the change interval. Mobil 1 10w-40 motorcycle oil and Mobil 1 75w-90 gear oil for the rear end. A lot of guys use Amsoil, and a lot use Shell Rotella. Any brand name motorcycle oil, or any brand name auto oil that does not say "energy conserving" in the API circle on the back should be fine.
  4. ABS or non-ABS,, I think $14,000 is about retail for non-ABS. And Lakehill motors in Tennessee has non-ABS 2010s for $19,000.

    Need Help

any brand name 10w-30 or 10w-40 that does not say "energy conserving" in the API circle on the back of the bottle should be OK for the wet clutch even if it is not motorcycle specific. for the rear end I use Mobil 1 75w-90 gear lube, but any 75w or 80w gear oil should be fine.
  6. I would think it would do bluetooth tether. I believe my HTC G1 does, but not really sure, I never use it that way.
  7. I don't know, from what I've seen of Topix only about one in 50 posts is by someone with an actual brain, the rest are political pundits and religious zealots from the far extremes spouting rhetoric and insulting anyone that disagrees.
  8. I use long nylon nuts, and just finger tighten them, and keep a few extra in my saddlebags.
  9. I've always changed mine at double recommended with synthetic, on all my cars and bikes since the 80s, without any issues.
  10. Not that it will probably make any difference with the chirp, but Mobil 1 20/50 is designed for air cooled twins, being a liquid cooled 4 you should use the 10/40 version.
  11. So far there aren't many tires out for the new sizes on the HD touring line of bikes except from HD (d408 front and d407 rear). They had an exclusive deal with Dunlop for them that expires in august. Sometime in august Dunlop will release a American Elite (basically a new Harley sized E3). One of my co workers has an 09 Road King, he is trying to baby his tires to make them last until august. It looks like Avon makes a Cobra in the correct size. front http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/31/401/15017/ITEM/Avon-AV71-Cobra-Front-Tire.aspx?SiteID=SLI|Avon%20Cobra&WT.MC_ID=10010 rear http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/31/401/14173/ITEM/Avon-AV72-Cobra-Rear-Tire.aspx?SiteID=SLI|Avon%20Cobra&WT.MC_ID=10010
  12. I have not bypassed the switch on my RSV, but on my previous Yamaha when it got old the switch stopped working. So I followed the wires back to their first connector, cut them just down from the connector, soldered them together, and put some heat shrink over them. It was just under the pop off side cover. From then on when ever I parked it, I would pop off the cover, pull the connector and put it in my pocket, so if anyone ever tried to hot wire it to steal it, it would die ever time they put it in gear.
  13. I have these on my front, http://www.customdynamics.com/yamaha_turn_signal_retro.htm they are running lights and turn signals.
  14. I was getting about 37 freeway and 42 if I stayed 55 or below a couple years back,, now getting about 31-32 freeway and 38 at 55 or under. I did a carb sync, and they really were not off and used Seafoam, no real change. I think that they are in general pushing the allowed limit of ethanol in most gas now, and were not before.
  15. There was a comment about mixing synth and dino causing foaming.. Actually you can get foaming by mixing different oils even if both are dino or both are synth. The foaming issue is because of the anti-foaming additives in oil, that are produced by either acid or alkaline based technology. When two oils are mixed and one uses acid based tech, and the other uses alkaline base tech, it actually causes foaming.
  16. Well that is about the dumbest thing I ever heard. Considering where you live I'm not so sure they know anything about hot air, unless they self express it. But still, they would rather have no air? Any air coming through that vent is definitely cooler than the air rising off the engine that would be there if there was no vent. I have ridden several bikes without vents in the shield, including my RSV before I got the Clearview, not fun when it is hot. And being in Florida, I mean hot.
  17. In gear oil tests, Amsoil, Mobil1 and Castrol Syntec were the top rated oils. Royal purple and Redline synthetics rated lower than Mopar synthetic and a couple of top brands of non-synthetic. Some people swear by them, but no Royal Purple or Redline will ever go in any vehicle I own.
  18. Synthetic oil will not make seals leak.. What does happen sometimes is that when changing oil brands or types, not even necessarily from dino to synth, the different detergent blends will cause any gunk or build up in the engine to come loose. This gunk can build up where seals are weak or going bad and keep them from leaking. When it is cleaned out it may reveal leaks that were on the edge of leaking anyway. Also, just because an oil in not designed specifically for motor cycles does not mean it will make your clutch slip. Check the API circle on the back of the container, if it does not say "energy conserving" then there is nothing in it that should cause a clutch to slip. Even if it does say that, it doesn't mean it will cause problems, just that it is more likely to cause problems.
  19. If you use a good synthetic 2 stroke oil you can go 40:1 no problem. We ran 40:1 in my son's YZ85, YZ125 and my Husqvarna 125 for years. And I ran 50:1 in my KTM 250 no issues.
  20. Also,, I have found on my last three bikes, all with carburetors, that if the bike sets for any length of time the carbs get clogged up and it becomes much harder to start. They also don't preform as well and don't get optimum gas mileage until they clean out. If I were you I would, along with checking other things, use some Seafoam and go for a long ride. At least 150 miles.. See if it seems better after that.
  21. WOT?
  22. It is sweet, I could put my dogs in the side car!!! Wife would have to ride on the back, out in the rain with me!!
  23. What was the date? Oh and what I thought was interesting, was not how fast the sport bike went by me, but how fast the locals on scooters passed the sport bikers once they hit the down hill side.
  24. Bugs on the windshield, get a towel wet with hot water, lay it over the bugs to loosen them. Wipe gently with a dry cotton or microfiber towel, then polish with either Pledge or Plexus. I personally do not wash very often, I polish. I use a spray cleaner polish like the Honda or Kawasaki clean and shine and just slowly go over every thing a little bit at a time. Often it takes me a week or two to get to everything. And I often ride in between, and will go over the larger surfaces like the tank, bags, fenders and pipes after a few rides even if I haven't finished everything else. So in effect my bike is never totally clean, and always in the process of being cleaned.
  25. Not really sure what they are saying either, but I have read that if you have bad or loose steering bearings the front end will wobble. But they have to be pretty bad for it to wobble while you are holding the bars. Occasionally I will be riding along with the cruise on, and will make my hand very light on the bars, maybe even hover them off the grips a bit. I figure if the bars don't try to wobble the bearings must be OK.
