  1. I don't think I could ever go back to an air cooled bike. I had a Kaw Ninja in 88 after that I went back to air cooled and carburated, with a Kaw ZR-7S, realized why I left the air cooled world.. And if I ever change from the Venture, it will need to be FI, getting tired of carbs.
  2. I don't think I have any, but I'll look. Florida now requires you to return old plates before they will issue new ones.
  3. No kidding, seeing as MSRP is around $19 to $21k depending on setups. And every BMW dealer I've ever been to offered test rides.
  4. My next choice would have been a BMW 1200LT,, after that a Goldwing.
  5. I have been caught in heavy rain and not had any issues with my Zumo.. I also always have a set of Mad Maps in the trunk for the area I'm riding in, and usually have printed directions for most places I plan to go, that I made from MapQuest before leaving, in my tank bag.
  6. The more songs you have in it, the longer it takes to initialize and start playing. I keep mine down to around 500 on a 4 gig SD.
  7. Well I got it loaded, works ok, but eats the battery like it was candy.
  8. The real problem is the flat nature of the stock shield, for some reason the wind does not push the water off a stock shield very well even after you have it beaded up. I used Pledge, but it didn't help much on the stock shield. Switched to a Clearview which tilts back more, still use Pledge, and now anytime I'm moving over 40mph water blows off pretty well.
  9. I started to download it to my G1 Android, but it seemed to be taking a long time. I assumed that meant it was large so I stopped it. I guess I'll try again.
  10. the problem is the gears, to case, to clutch basket gear, tolerances with straight cut transmission gears. not all gears are exactly the same and neither are all the cases. And as many people we see hear complain about the chirp, most Royal Stars either do not chirp or don't chirp enough to be a problem. A few who have clutch baskets at on end of the machine tolerances and an engine case at the other end, become very loud. Back in the old days of hand assembling engines companies would take time to match cases to gears, and/or shim to correct for these type of issues. But those days are long gone. I am assuming that Yamaha's fix, the I basket, is at the other end of the tolerances from the baskets that seem to have the loudest chirp, which is why it fixes it most of the time.
  11. I paid $450 for mine back when Best Buy was deleting them from their inventory.
  12. As far as oil change, a few people here have said it got worse when changing to a heavier oil. When I change from dino to synth it got quieter, but it was never very bad to start with and I used 10w-40 both dino and synth.
  13. I don't know, to me it sort of is, if the seat of the bike supports your behind properly, and gives you a little room to move, it should not be the thing that stops you. Of course for some this is going to require a custom seat, but for me the pillowtop seat on the Venture is fine. Back when I road sport, my knees, wrists, and butt all got sore very quickly. I experimented with different bars and made it the wrists better but knees and butt still got sore quickly. Switched to sport-touring bikes, and that helped the knees so the butt was the first thing to get sore. Bought a good custom seat and back to the wrists and knees being the first thing to get sore. Butt would still get sore, but just a few minutes off the bike stretching and it could go again, not so with the wrists and knees. Now the Venture with the pillowtop seat and back rest, no weight on the wrists, knees are always bent less than 90 degrees and floor boards give me room to move around so the knees are not a problem, I really don't get sore anymore, I just get tired. But or butt to each his own.
  14. So at home watching TV you sit in a kitchen chair and keep your feet under you so your butt won't get sore?
  15. Why, because it is more comfortable!!! There is no way a sport touring bike will be as comfortable for two up touring. Even the Wing and BMW LT sacrifice some comfort and leg room, for handling. I really prefer the looks of the Wing, and of the LT, but after test riding them several times, the Venture moved from third or fourth on my list, to the top. It was the most comfortable.
  16. I change oil when I feel the shifting getting stiff, back when I used dino oil it was about 4k, with synth it is about 7 to 8k.
  17. Very deceiving video, there are many levels or qualities of acrylics, impact modified acrylic D.O.T. approved will not break like that. And that is what Clearview uses.
  18. OEM filters are decent and can be cleaned a few times before being replaced. And I have 16,000 miles on my bike, just pulled them, and they really weren't dirty yet.
  19. 10:28 listening to "Have you seen the rain?"
  20. I'd like to thank you all for the thankless thread?
  21. I use Mobil 1 on my bike and Mobil 1 Or Syntec in my Jeep and my wife's Element. I switched to Rotella synth in my Jeep but the gas mileage went down so I switched back.
  22. That is what I read also, but I have also read that the EPA rules were for any 2010 model year bike. If that second it true, then they could keep going without a change for 11.?????
  23. Actually, I've always had my bike year and type listed at the bottom in my signature.
  24. Also the slowest memory often needs to in the first slot for the machine to see the cards. And some motherboards it might not work. And which end is the first slot varies from motherboard to motherboard.
