  1. Have seeb that in a fair amount of user pics, the TCI/CDI box is on top of the air box under the false tank. I'm guessing this is done to keep the unit cool, as it wouldn't be sitting directly over the engine. Is this a model year difference (I've got a Mk2 87) or is it a after-market user modification? In mine, it looks like its mounted to a frame rail. I noticed this as I've been looking at wiring and fuse block upgrade threads, and saw the box, and wasn't sure if it was an aftermarket or moving the original. Can't find a thread talking about it, so figured I would have to ask. Glenn in Tucson
  2. I had 2 e-mail addys for you and couldn't get these to load up ...yes I'm sure it is user error...hope it helps...........
  3. Got a GPS tracking device from someone I work with that is planning on selling them. It takes a sim card (GSM) that with pay as you go will respond to text messages and reports its position (latitude/longitude), speed, battery condition, and distance. I'm planning on mounting it inside the fairing and will report on how well it works out. I've done some initial testing in the car and works as advertised. You can either call the sim's phone number or send a text message to get : latitude and longitude by SMS or GPRS, and check position by Google earth. Auto Report position based on a time frame and repetitions you txt to it (eg: every 5 minutes for 20 repetitions) Send the last location if it enters into the blind area (out of gps view) Add or change Username and Password. Monitoring and SOS feature. Monitoring uses a built-in microphone so you can "monitor" sounds around it (listen to conversations Geofence alert to the user when it breaches the restricted area send an alert of movement to the user when it begins to move. send an alert of overspeed to the user when it moves exceed of the restricted speed. It will send an alert of low battery to the user if the battery is low. Specs : 46(L)x64(W)x17(H) mm and weighs 50g, GSM sensitivity GSM sensitivity - less than -102dBm GPS chipset SirF III chipset GPS sensitivity -159dBm GPS accuracy 5m Battery life about 48 hrs Comes with two 3.7V DC Li-Ion Battery,700mA, wall charger, and connection for bike/car (wire in), magnetic cover Battery charges off the bike so I'll wire it in using a relay to turn on charging using the ignition. Although you can use something like this to track young drivers in your car for going over a set speed limit, location, or outside a set area, I'm thinking if the bike is ever stolen I can locate it either based on movement or locate it simply by sending it a txt message. Doesn't report to a web site so there are no monthly fees, and using a pay as you go card can add $ to it as you need, say over the summer months when you are riding/touring. Easy way for your significant other to find out where you are -okay.... that can be good or bad.
  4. I used to be able to log in to my daily viewed sites and my sign in info was retained in my computer and I went directly to the site, grabbed a cup of coffee, and sat back to enjoy. Now, each time I visit this site (and the others) I have to reinput my user name and password...gets a bit tedious (yes, I know, I AM lazy!)... is there a way around this?
  5. Does anyone have an ecopy of the 86 VR user manual?
  6. I just got 6 old laptops from work that they were going to trash, the one in question is a Dell Insipiron 2500 with Win 2000 pro. The person that used this computer no longer works there and it's password protected, no one know what it may be, is there any way I can get around this and reset the user and password. I don't want to do a fresh install because there are some programs i suspect on there that I want to keep and use.
  7. Boss, Maybe you could once again urge the members to utilize the "Custom User Title" to show what the are riding. We all know how much easier it is to respond to problems/questions if it is known up front for what specific motorcycle they are seeking help/answers.
  8. My account has been down for at least a week with the following message I get at login, I cant do anything except get this message. Member here has PM'd for my pics of progressive fork rebuild-linked to photobucket, and doesn't work. There are 71 pics I had on photobucket. Still have on PC, dont think I can PM 71 pics, and likely limit on #pics/email. Any suggestions on another photohosting site? Any ideas what problem is with photobucket and if likely be restored or pics lost? Brian Photobucket Site Maintenance http://pic.photobucket.com/logos/PbLogo.350.gif New Maintenance Update Photobucket customers, Let me begin by once again expressing my apologies for the issues you have been experiencing, and for the delay in restoring service. We continue to work diligently to resolve the problems and would like to keep you up-to-date on how things are going. The vast majority of you that were impacted should now or very soon notice that your accounts and images are back up again. However, not every user has been restored to service; we still are working to restore less than 1% (0.25%) of our user base. If your account is still not working, please be assured that we know about it and continue to work toward fully restoring service for all users as quickly as possible. We will continue to provide updates as they occur. We hear your frustration and appreciate all of your feedback. Thank you, Jim Goss VP of Operations
  9. These batteries have been mentioned a few times here lately. Webbike World has a pretty decent article on them right now. I actually find some of the user comments at the end of their comparison to be even more informative that the article itself. From reading some of the user comments, I'm not sure that these batteries are right for touring bikes with heavy current draws. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-battery/li-ion-motorcycle-battery/shorai-vs-ballistic-li-ion-motorcycle-battery.htm
  10. go to their User CP (link in bottom blue line at top of page) and, click on the "edit your details" link (in the blue box at the left). Then under "Custom User Title" list the year and model of the bike(s) you own. This will post the year and model of your bike in all of your posts. This makes it easier, when you post a problem, for the people to know whether you're talking about a 1st gen. or a 2nd gen. Thanks all!
  11. Once again, Yahoo is blocking all email from VentureRider.org. When they notice a lot of email coming from a particular site, they assume it is spam. This is the second time they have done this. I emailed them before to let them know that any email that is sent from VentureRider.org is only that which is requested from their customers. We have a triple opt in system here. 1. A user has to register at VentureRider.org. 2. A user has to confirm that they are the one that registered by clicking a link in the confirmation email. 3. In order to received further emails such as notification to replies to posts, notifications that they have received a private message, etc. They must go to their UserCP and select to be notified of those events. I sent Yahoo an email the last time this happened and explained that to them but I simply got a canned response back saying that the ban would be temporary and restored in a few days. There is really nothing more that I can do. If it is important to you that you receive your email notifications, I can only recommend that you use somebody other than Yahoo for your email. Sorry for the inconvenience.
  12. Originally I just used the name of our Motorhome "KountryStar" for my user name, but later it didn't sound appropriate. So, yesterday, I changed it to "Nemo", which is kind of a backwards and upside down spelling of my real name, Owen. And now, many thanks to you other members for all of the helpful advice and recommendations which are posted on this forum. I keep a file of many of them for future reference. You're a swell group!
  13. Any of you who are using Yahoo for your email clients are likely not getting any email notifications to threads and/or forums that you have subscribed to. I am getting rejection notices from yahoo for all messages sent to you. They say: SMTP error from remote mail server after initial connection: host g.mx.mail.yahoo.com [209.191.118.103]: 421 4.7.0 [TS02] Messages from 67.222.3.45 temporarily deferred due to user complaints - 4.16.56.1; see http://postmaster.yahoo.com/421-ts02.html: Yahoo says that it could be from user complaints or simply that a lot of email is coming from this server. Please understand that if you get email notifications, it is because you have elected to do so. If you are getting emails from venturerider.org and have complained to Yahoo about it then shame on you. All you have to do is go to the UserCP and "Edit Options" and make sure that you have selected "Do Not Subscribe" to any topics or posts. It is off by default so if you are getting such emails, YOU have turned them on at some time in the past. I have emailed Yahoo in an attempt to get this resolved and hopefully it will be soon.
  14. I went to user cp and then scrolled down to pictures and albums and loaded some pictures. How do I get these pictures to show up under a thread I post? Thanks

    HELP !!!

I need some help. I'm DaveCB' wife, His user name sucks bigtime. Sounds more like a trucker than a biker. With a last name of Bill, I call him buffalo. Open to all suggestions for a new user name for him. Thanks for your help. Dakota
  20. I would like to know why you chose your user name and signature. I think it could help us all to know each other a little better. My user name is funrider, that is because I have fun everytime I go riding and every ride I have is fun. My signature use to be, My wife asks me when I am going ot grow up, I tell her I have to grow old, I don't have to grow up. ( that pretty much is the way I look at life, to many people grow old and forget to have fun.) Another person has a signature very much the same, so I have decided to change mine. My new one is, A clash between a bike and a cage, You can not win. Choose you battles wisely and live to ride again. After reading about all the accidents, damage to bikes. personal injuries and even the deaths of fellow riders, I feel this is only appropriate. Now it is your turn to tell all of us about why your user name and signature. Oh, one more question, how do I keep this post going?
