I've been wondering that too. Off the coast of Santa Barbara there is a crack in the ocean floor that leaks about 20 tons of oil a day and has for the last several hundred thousand years. The naturally occurring microbes there take care of the majority of it, why wouldn't it work in the gulf???? I also wonder why they haven't come up with some way of collecting that oil?

On long trips I use wick-dry bike shorts under my riding pants, and wick dry biking shirt under my jacket. Helps quite a bit in my opinion.

Any breed will bite, but fighting breed dogs have been specifically bred with jaw and jaw muscle structure to clamp and hold until dead, they have also specifically been bred to have little or no release instinct when their opponent becomes submissive. Any breed will bite, but very few will try to kill. And sure proper training makes a huge difference, but still, check the facts on what dogs kill the most people, there are only few that make up almost all the stats. Comparing a lab to a pit is like comparing a knife to gun. There are many uses for knives, guns are designed to kill. -
OK, changing the rear end gear oil will not affect how the bike shifts. Did you also change the engine/trans oil? And if so, what weight did you use?

From page 3-11 of the 07 owners manual "Your Yamaha engine has been designed to use regular unleaded gasoline with a pump octane number [(R+M)/2] or 86 or higher, or a research octane number of 91 or higher." If you check the pumps you will find they are giving the [(R+M)/2] rating.. Also the comment about higher octane burning slower is only sorta of true, in everyday pump gas it is correct, but not in gas in general, racing gas of almost any octane can be designed for faster or slower burn rates depending on application.. But for standard everyday pump gas, the lowest octane you can run without pinging (pre-detonation) will be the most efficient and produce the more horse power.

Which type of Mobil 1? You didn't put 85w-90 in your engine? I mean we were talking about rear end gear oil to start with, weren't we?

Hmm, Corbin was better? And no butt problems on a Nomad with a Corbin. I've ridden Nomads several times, But remember there being a big difference in seating position. From what I can tell, both the handle bars and foot boards are a little closer on the Nomad, and the handle bars may be a bit higher. But doesn't seem like enough difference that you shouldn't be able to make the Venture work.

Wow, glad you stopped. Did anyone ever find out who did it?

OK, let me ask a few questions first. Was the stock seat a pillowtop? Was the Corbin better or worse? Have you tried adjusting the back rest so that it pushes you forward and you can't really lean against. If so, was it better leaning back or forward up straight? If the answers are yes, worse, yes, forward, then perhaps your body structure needs a seating position that puts less weight right on your seat and more on your lower legs and thighs. Changing your handle bars to shorter ones might help, but I do know people that cannot get comfortable on a cruiser style bike, but do fine on sport-touring bikes like Honda ST1300, BMW 1200RT, Kawasaki Concours or Moto Guzzi Norge. Hopefully you can figure it out and keep the bike,

If you decide to give it up, (maybe even if you don't) thought I would share this. Back in 93 I gave up motorcycles for ten years. No accident or anything like that, we had little kids and I wanted to do things with them. So I sold all my bikes, had three, and bought into time shares with Disney Vacation Club, became a little league coach, and spent my free time with my family. What got me through was I bought myself a Jeep Wrangler. I find them as close to a motorcycle as you can get and be on four wheels. Fanatically loyal following, more aftermarket parts than you can shake a stick at, and begs you to add a new farkle daily. Throw the top down and you have the same wind and weather in your face. You can even take the doors off. 2003, my kids were old enough I had spare time again, so got back into motorcycles. Again for awhile had three, four if you counted my son's dirt bike too. Last year got very sick and ended up in the hospital for two weeks, and then had rehab and wasn't able to ride at all for sometime. Considered selling the Venture but my companies medical insurance was good and I didn't need the money. Now I am able to ride again and still do occasionally, but not near as much as I did. Just don't have the desire to take the risks I use to take. And of course motorcycling is more of a risk than driving a cage. And I still have a Jeep Wrangler, newer one, and I still find driving it almost as fun as driving a motorcycle. I still have the Venture and maybe I will get back to riding more, maybe not. But until I'm sure, I will keep it. And of course if you decide not to ride, there are always dirt bikes, ATVs, and Jet Skis, all similar to motorcycles in excitement without the constant worry of traffic. You got to do what works for you, Hang in there.

I use to do that, but now I go almost exclusively to Daily/Shell stations because we generally grocery shop at Winn Dixie, the Daily station is right next to Winn Dixie, and if you have a Winn Dixie card, for every $50 you spend at the grocery you get five cents off the current price of gas. It is limited to 20 gallons per discount, and my Jeep has a 20 gallon tank. Just works out.

different states have different laws on when passing lamps can be on. Some only with high beam, some only with low beam, some it doesn't matter. I would guess most people where you are, are use not use to seeing them. I run mine all the time, high or low beam, but I do not keep my high beam on all the time. And for those that do, it is illegal. And I know, your attitude is you would rather chance a ticket than not being seen. But the studies have shown that high or low beam makes little difference during the day, it is the triangular three light pattern that people see. Also for those that have slight night blindness (35% of men over 40 are thought to have some night blindness), which can also in some people cause sensitivity to light and dark contrast, high beams during the day can be very annoying and even cause headaches. If someone rides behind me (whether I'm on the bike or in my cage) with their high beams on for more than about 5 minutes, just the reflection in the mirror starts to bother me. High beams coming toward me from the other direction, even during the day, at times can force me to look away. So I would like to apologize now if I happen wander out of my lane and run you over while looking away from you high beams.

I too am avoiding BP stations, but I have been avoiding them since their Alaska pipeline "accident" in 2006, not the one that just happened. In reality I doubt it does any good. Most stations are independent and buy gas from who ever has it, so if BP stations aren't selling BP gas, BP will just supply to other stations.

Can I get an Amen from the choir!!!

yeah, I'm pretty sure in most states the max height of speed bumps is higher then the min federal required ground clearance on new cars, and that most states have little or no min required on modified vehicles. We have pretty much given up on cars, my wife drives a Honda Element 4x4 with larger than stock tires, and I have a 4 door Jeep Wrangler with 32s. Speed bumps are no problem, actually both of us can drive over curbs with no problem and I can drive over thing considerably higher than curbs.

No but it does come with an optional car!! http://www.engadget.com/2009/09/30/honda-ev-n-concept-tucks-u3-x-personal-transporter-inside-door/

Apparently they don't learn and/or it takes more than one. Because this exact same thing happened in 1979 on an Mexican owned oil well in the gulf, and it leaked 30,000 barrels, (over a million gallons) of oil a day for nine months until the relief wells were finished.
-
It takes about 100 days to drill, at about a million dollars a day, and the same for a relief well. So as long as it is not required they won't.
-
I noticed that today too, but I don't really care as I only share info with my friends, and every friend I have on facebook is someone I actually know. I either knew them when I was in high school, in the Navy, me or my wife now work with them or their spouse, or they are a member of my family. When anyone I do not personally know sends me a friend request, I ignore it.

As far as I can tell from the posts, no one insulted anyone here. Redraptor22 did insult what ever her name is from MSNBC. That is the only insult I see.

I just bought a carb stick and did mine using the instructions in the link. Not too hard. But then I am not positive I got it correct, really didn't seem that far off to me before I started. If you still just want some moral support, I live just South of Jacksonville. Not too far. We might be able to get together.

The whole point of the link you refused to watch was that there was an oil leak 31 years ago, the same type of safety valve, failed in the same way, it was the same drilling management company, (who changed their name after the 79 accident) using the same excuses, and same techniques (Tophat, junkshot, killshot but with different names at the time) and they all failed at 200 feet so there was no chance they would work at 5000 feet. In 79 they spilled over 1,000,000 gallons a day for over 9 months before they got the relief wells drilled. And apparently the exact same thing is happening again. Advances in drilling deeper have happened in 30 years, but not in stopping and controlling accidents. And as far a being pretty good if safety procedures are followed, sure. That again is the point, BP has had 3 major accidents in the last few years, (Alaska, Texas and now the Gulf) all do to negligent maintenance and ignoring safety procedures. There is no way the people running this company aren't aware of the shortcuts being taken.

Yup, you read it correct, must have happened last summer as I put my Avons on then, and the shop here ordered them fresh but couldn't get the rear WWW then. I originally just thought they made a mistake ordering, but it didn't look bad and BW was a little cheaper so I didn't fuss. But since see that the Avon website doesn't show the rear WWW anymore.
