Now would be the perfect time to get her an XR100 or TTR110 and teach her how to ride, of course she would need someone to ride with, which would give you an excuse to get an XR200 or TTR230 When my son was 12 I got him an XR100, and me a Husqvarna 125, at 15 got him a YZ80, and me a KTM 250.. now he is 22, does not have a bike right now (but is trying to save the money for one) but I believe he is a much better and safer driver in a car after years of dirt biking.

http://jacksonville.com/opinion/blog/400798/mary-kelli-palka/2010-10-27/2010-excel-award-recipients My wife is one of the award winners here in North East Florida. That is out of 267,000 teachers in Florida. They tracked students state test scores, and the teachers that had students with significant increase in scores for three consecutive years were given the award.

Wax doesn't not have UV protectants, and can allow clear coat to yellow. Technically you shouldn't use wax on clear coat, (although most modern products are labeled wax even though they aren't) you should us a polymer cleaner/protectant. And you should not use a polish on clear coat as polishes have abrasives for blending out scratches in paint which can scratch and dull clear coat. The best I have found is Zaino, but it is expensive and a bit of work to use. I generally use Turtle Wax Ice, cheap and easy to use. But I still use Pledge on the windshield.

Funny though, how as soon as HD rolled back production, the dealers all jacked the prices back up.

Sounds like fun, but the 6th is the meet and eat at the space coast.

Different bikes for different tasks, Dirt, dual sport, adventure, sport, sport touring, touring, cruising. I can't think of any reason why a person would want less than 7!!!!

You are way over analyzing this. I am calling it my around town ride because there is no way I'm going to ride a 883 sportster on a long trip even if I go solo!!! And, I do drive a gas hog Jeep Wrangler 4x4 with over sized tires. and to compensate I bought an 883 Sportster. There was never any trying to justify it, I wanted a smaller, solo, cool bike. It was between a Sportster and a Triumph Bonneville, I found an 09 Sportster with less than 700 miles, not even broke in yet, for $5000.

Not with the mid controls, but I have the forward controls on order. And I've sat on Sportsters with forward controls, not bad. I also need to order a Mustang solo seat with back rest.
-
Just a Sportster, bike for around town, a bit of commuting and short solo rides. Kept the Venture!! I'm going to have to do something about that rock hard stock seat though.

There were no road races because they were redoing the track this year for NASCAR. Of the normal trackside displays, Honda, Suzuki, BMW, and Ducati did not even show up. Yamaha had a small display and the normal test rides, Kawasaki had the test rides but no display at all.

We stopped for awhile at Destination Daytona, seems like more and more stuff is moving there. Pretty sad if you ask me. I usually just go down to the track. Wasn't much there this year. They are resurfacing the track so no fall races, Honda, Ducati and BMW didn't even show up. Yamaha had a few bikes and the test rides, Kawasaki had test rides but no bikes to show but CanAm had their normal showing. Down at the other end there were a couple of chopper builders, but less than normal.

final drive oil replace
hig4s replied to 22lyons's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Remove the left saddle bag, four allen screws, two under the foam pad. Drain it from the plug on the bottom plug, replace and fill from the top plug until you can't anymore. I use either Mobil 1 or Castrol Synthetic gear oil. -

I'm sorry, the people at NADA are high on this one. A brand new 2010 is only $6999. I'm about to buy a used 09 with only 700 miles for $5000.

Well, from my experience motocross racing (bikes and ATVs) I found left hand turns easier on motorcycles for most people mainly because the brake is on the right side, so when turning left you don't have the unconscious desire to take you foot away from the brake to keep it from touching the ground. But on ATVs some people were better left and some right.

Are you saying the book value on an 86 883 is $5400????
-
Actually, while the extra load capacity would be good on a trike, I would think a wider flatter tire would be better seeing as you are no longer leaning.

Considering my last three bikes were 2 750 sport touring bikes, and a 750 Ninja, with the stock tire it felt like a tank to me, with the 130 it now feels like a big motorcycle. And the twitchyness and wind drift is nothing compared to a 430lb Ninja.

I plan to go down Friday morning, and back again Saturday morning with Mary. I usually stay mostly by the track. Not sure though, the restaurant I liked by the track, Cancun Lagoon, closed over a year ago, so I may Venture up to Destination Daytona and try to get some wings at Hooligans on Friday. No sure if I will want to fight the madness there Saturday.

Because that means you can dig up an old PC keyboard extender cable for little or nothing, and extend the passenger connector (which is in a hard to reach place) and extended it up under the passenger seat, to the pouch on the back of your drivers back rest like I did for my wife. Now she doesn't worry about trying to connect her head set until she is comfortably settled on the bike.

Things to look forward to going wrong
hig4s replied to djh3's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
It is only an issue if it is making noise, and the noise has nothing to do with reliability or breaking. All make some whine because of the straight cut transmission gears, which are in a lot of different brands of bikes. And most of the Royal Stars are not loud and don't need anything done to them.- 13 replies

The only thing I can think of is watch for the leaking rear shock, they go occasionally. If the bike is not chirping already it shouldn't start. Royal Stars are noted for having a weak clutch spring that may start slipping eventually and have to be replaced or upgraded. They all have some trans and clutch whine, but the chirp is different and louder, and can be very loud at highway speeds on a few bikes. But again, if you test ride it and it is not obnoxiously loud, you shouldn't have to worry about it. My 07 has a mere 16K on it and I have had no problems at all.- 13 replies
