  1. I had already mentioned there is a whole other thread on this.. But for what it is worth... I have raced ATVs, dirtbikes and run motorcycles at the drags, have always done my own wrenching, and had a master motorcycle mechanic licence back when I lived in Michigan. And I just plain disagree. Nuff Said.
  2. Well, I said I didn't have it, but right the other night on my way home for work all of a sudden I heard this whining,, I slowed down and I had the chirp. This was at about 550 miles.. At 600 I switched to a good synthetic oil, and now it is virtually undetectable... And yes, I know, there is a whole other thread about whether to switch to synth at the first oil change or not...

    Break in

And if it takes longer to break in, then won't it take even longer to wear out? As far as the initial run in of the rings, in most engines today that is done in the factory, before the engine is even put in a vehicle. Everyone do what makes you comfortable, but I have in my last three street bikes changed to synthetic at first oil change, with no problems at all. And I just did the same to my 07 RSV..

I know the manual is a pain, but these things are in it

    Break in

Only during initial break in, after that using synthetic is fine. Heavy loads during break in are good for the rings, but what about the crank, cams, rear end gears, transmission, and any other gear or bearing surface.. The heavy load style of break in was developed years ago by racers after doing top ends on 4-stroke racing engines. Actually, since the mid 80s, I've had 5 racing dirt bikes using synthetic from day one! My previous Husqvanra and my current KTM came from the factory with synthetic. I never had an oil related failure on any of them.

    Break in

I just got to 600mi on mine,, I took it easy for a couple tanks of gas then rode it like I will normally ride it.. That is how I've always rode every new bike I've had.
  7. On my old helmet I wouldn't hesitate to do it, but the new RF1000 seems to be a bit tricky.. I'll probably end up sending them to J&M and let them do it.
  8. I just got a new RSV but still want to wear full face helmets.. Got the wife and myself each new Shoei RF1000 helmets.. Then ordered two J&M fullface headsets to fit the bike's intercom system, but the speakers and mic are thicker than the headsets from my old audioboss system. The instructions in the headsets say to cut holes in the styrofoam liner of the helmet for the speakers and mic. I'm not to sure about doing this. Has anyone done this on an RF1000? OR know of anyone that does J&M headset installs, quick neat and professionally, for not too much, in North or Central Florida? J&M says you can send the helmet to them and they will do it, for a nominal fee, but I'd rather not ship the helmets off for who knows how long.
  9. A brand of synthetic oil,, expensive but about the best out there.
  10. I just got my wife this..http://www.cyclegear.com/spgm.cfm?L1=3&L2=&L3=&L4=&item=FTL_MBW2-BLK-LSM_G They had them on sale at the local cycle gear store for $30.49
  11. I just bought an 07 RSV,, only have 350 miles on it so far, but I have not noticed any chirp yet.
  12. I don't work at 24 degrees!!!!
  13. I have headsets from a Motocomm Audioboss in my helmets from my other bike.. Does anyone know if there is an adaptor available to use them on the RSV? Thanks Al
  14. Just as info, The Day Long seat was designed by Bill Mayer Sr. and Russel bought the rights to the design,, After that Bill Mayer Saddles was founded on a newer disign by Bill Mayer Sr. After his death Bill (Rocky) Mayer jr. took over the business. Rick Mayer, Rocky's younger brother, took offense because he had worked in the factory and Rocky had not, so he started his own company.. So three of the top rated custom seat manufacturers,, Rick Mayer cycles, Bill Mayer saddles, and Russel seats all use the designs of Bill Mayer Sr...
  15. Rick Mayer custom seats are great, but he is a bit slow.. On my Kaw sport-touring bike I bought a spare seat from e-bay and sent it to him so I was not without a seat while I waited. Stock Kaw seat was only good for 150 to 200 miles a day solo with the Mayer I can do 400 miles or better solo. www.homestead.com/prosites-rmcycle/index.html
