  1. I have to agree.. But I was thinking. Yes, I know it is a dangerous thing to do. That a set of flat LEDs mounted in the bottom outside edge of the fairing on each side, (at the top edge of the clear behind the clear under piece) might make the whole clear piece glow amber, especially at night. If you are not sure where I mean, I marked it in yellow here.
  2. If you are refering to my friend, he didn't use it at night, and the Velcro strap simulated night to turn them off in the daytime. If you are refering to my night blindness, that can manifest itself as a problem with amount of light processed or with adjusting quickly to different light levels. I have both issues so the brights in my rearview mirror anytime (but especially at night) bothers me although I can deal with it, but the modulating light during the day just drives me crazy.
  3. A couple years back a friend of mine took 6 weeks and rode from Seattle to NY down to visit me in FL and over to TX then back.. He had a modulator and mentioned to me that there were areas he rode through that with the modulator on people would do dangerous stuff to get him away from them because they seemed to be upset with the modulator. In those areas he had a Velcro cover for the sensor to turn it off. Personally I don't like them or vehicles (bikes or not) that run with brights on. As someone that has some night blindness (about 50% of men over 40 do) modulators or brights in my rear view mirrors make it more difficult for me to focus on the road ahead of me. But I find it hard to think it could be mistaken for a turn signal. Perhaps if the sun was just right so it didn't seem very bright it might have been a bit confusing, but if you are confused when driving you shouldn't just keep going.
  4. If you liked that, what do you think of this.. http://www.autoblog.com/2007/10/07/tokyo-2007-preview-yamaha-tesseract-concept/
  5. From what I've gathered from different forums, is that all the Metzs that have failed were produced in their plant in Brazil and the ones that come from the German factory don't have the problem.. Not sure if this is true, but I would demand my replacement tire said "Made in Germany" Of the ones that have failed for people here, if you know, where was your tire made? I went to several dealers here and looked at the tires and noticed that the ones made in Germany say "Made in Germany" in fairly larger bold letters. The ones made in Brazil say "Made in Brazil" in quite small and hard to read letters. Hmmmmm?
  6. My 07 mirrors seems fine at any speed.
  7. Oil IS a friction modifier!!!!! As long as the additives to the oil do not turn it into an "Enregy Conserving" oil it should be OK for wet clutchs. Stop over thinking it.
  8. For the dynamic clusters, did you have to add the load equalizer to slow down the flashing rate? Or was it OK without?
  9. It is a heavy bike, you know that, with a passenger it is even heavier. But once you get it moving it doesn't feel any different to me than riding solo. Like has been said, you just have to respect how heavy it is and don't put yourself in a position with a passenger (or solo for that matter) where you would need to muscle it around. Always be on relatively flat ground before you put a passenger on. Pointing up hill is OK if the back tire is against a curb, but down hill or side hills are asking for trouble. I parked on a slight down hill, in a gravel parking spot while riding solo. Had to have someone else get in front and push me out. (in that case having the wife along would have been a good thing, I could have had her get off and push)
  10. I've seen and done a lot, But one I remember clearly was my wife and I on my Yamaha 750 and a good friend on his Honda 750 were getting ready to go out. Don't remember where to. Just before we leave my apartment he says I have to stop by my place. Just down the road, not a problem. We pull into the parking lot about a 50 feet from his apartment door. I stop but keep the bike running. He jumps off his bike, runs up to his door, puts the key in, then stops and looks back. He had not put his kick stand down. The bike had sat there balanced the whole time and just as he looked back, as if it was waiting for him to notice, it slowly started falling. There I am sitting to the right of it as it falls left, away from me. I tried but I couldn't quite reach it. The best one I've done my self was one winter riding sand dunes in Michigan with a dual sport. We were all jumping one small sand dune going down into the low spot and using the sand dune next to the woods as a banked turn. I over jumped and was unable to turn in time, ended up jumping into a huge cedar tree. The front tire spun up a cedar bough and the bike stopped, hanging six foot off the ground stuck in the tree, I rolled off it and down to the bottom of the sand dune. The two guys I was riding with both immediately stopped, threw themselves on the ground and laughed uncontrollably. About the time they stopped, I managed to climb up one cedar bough high enough to get the front tire loose and the bike and I tumbled back down to the bottom of the dune. This started them laughing all over again.
  11. Any oil that says "Energy Conserving" in the API circle on the back of the bottle can cause the clutch to slip, it has nothing to do with being synthetic! All the Amsoil studies say Amsoil is best, all the Mobil 1 studies say Mobil 1 is best, all the Motul sudies say Motul is best.. Do I need to go on? I have only seen one independent, non-oil commany affilitated study. It was done by a Camaro hot rod club. They took a modern Camaro and did a change with Amsoil and ran it until the oil did not pass a full oil analysis. Testing every 3k and adding oil when necessary. It went around 12k and needed a quart and a half add in that time. They did the same with Mobil 1 and it went around 15k and needed a half quart add during the test. Good quality dino oil lasted about 8k. Mobil 1 is a lot cheaper than Amsoil but both are very good. I used "non-energy conserving" Mobil 1 auto oil on my last 3 bikes. On the Venture I use Mobil 1 20w-50 motorcycle oil. I figured as much as I spent on the bike I could spring for motorcycle oil.
  12. Linked brakes are nice but they will not keep you from locking the rear. For that you need ABS, one of the things I wish the Venture had. But the down side to linked brakes is doing slow speed maneuvers in parking lots, you have to be careful if you ride the back brake to help with stability, and if there is sand and gravel the front can catch and cause you to drop the bike. To me the best solution would be independent ABS. As far a using enough front brake, after coming off sport bikes, I find it hard to think you can use too much front brake on the Venture. On my old sport bikes and my dirt bikes I found I could use one or two fingers and get plenty of stopping power on the front, but with the Venture I have to use three fingers and it still seems I have to squeeze harder than I should have to, the front just isn't that sensitive, and the rear is too sensitive. Except when I really need to, I tend to use only front brake. Keeps me in the habit of relying on the brake that actually does most of the stopping. I usually ride with three fingers covering the front brake lever.
  13. I keep seeing people referring to the RSVs high center of gravity.. The Goldwing and BMWLT have higher centers and are taller making them even harder to handle at a stop. And I personally had a harder time getting the HD Electra Glide off the side stand with my wife on it than I do the Venture. That being said, I weigh 196, the wife about the same as yours. I always let her get on first, she is short and probably couldn't get on if I was already on. I really have no problem but I always make sure I'm in a good position, I back in to any space that is even slightly down hill so I can just pull out up hill, if the ground is sloped too much to one side or the other, I move the bike to a flatter spot, get back off, and then let her on. The big trick is to move slowly and deliberately. As far as sand or slippery spots on the ground, I have almost dropped the bike a couple times solo because of that. It is a heavy bike, you just have to take your time, keep it almost perfectly straight up, small steps when backing and think before you park 'cause this thing doesn't have reverse.
  14. Hope you enjoy it.. you do realize that is a 1366 by 768 LCD screen which is 720p..
  15. That is what I got too, A Joe Rocket Manta tank bag.. You've got yours on backward..
  16. Yes, I'm talking to my self.. I just remembered, in Canada they only get a 2 year warranty.. but still. I might take a GL1800 over and RSV depending on the price, but not a 1500.
  17. I plan to go down Sunday to watch some racing and maybe look around the displays at the track.. I have to work Friday and Saturday afternoons.
  18. Well, the 05 RSV still has at least two years of its 5 year unlimited mileage warranty. Nuff said!
  19. I'm assuming as years go by, and the restrictions get tougher, we will all be shipping our broken electronics back to China where, it was made for "reconditioning service" They will throw it in a land fill (after all they don't have any laws against it) and ship us replacements for about the same price as we can buy a one locally.
  20. Never, I don't even turn my phone on sometimes when I'm riding, but I always listen to music.
  21. Just a seat of the pants "Survey Says" It seems to me all the Yamaha V4s have the chirp, (haven't really paid attention to the other engines) only about 10% are loud, and about half those become reasonably quiet with synthetic. The other 5% drive their owners crazy. If you really love the Royale you might try test driving the BMW K1200LT. It was really close for me between that and the RSV. And it is better handling at speed and closer to the style of the Royale.
  22. We know from people on this board it happens in Canada, not sure about anywhere else.
  23. The problem with not being able to tell the difference at a store is do you know what source they were using? Many stores will make sure the source and adjustments on the set they make the most profit is the best. I always play with all the adjustments on the TV at the store, unless they stop me, then I figure they have something to hide. Also Cable HD and DirecTV HD do not get reception at 1080, so if that was the source you would not be able to tell the difference anyway. And if you do not have a HD DVD or BlueRay source at home you really don't need 1080 yet. But many local stations do transmit clean 1080 signals over the air, you need an outside HD antenna to get them (inside HD antenna will work if you live close and the signal is strong).
  24. HDTV come in 4 different types 1 conventional projection, they are the cheapest but not as thin as the others. But very good, if you have the room. 2 DLP thinner but still projection, uses a micro mirror system. will not burn in, second cheapest and the best value in my opinion. very bright. 3 LCD, thin enough to mount on the wall, not quite as sharp or bright as DLP to me. they appear to burn in but really do not. They sometimes retain residual voltage and because there is always voltage to the screen, even when turned off, you need to unplug them for a few hours to clear any memory marks from the screen. Still cheaper than Plasma. 4 Plasma, expensive, buy very clean picture. prone to burn in, once it is burnt the marks on the screen are permanent. NOW,, there are different levels of HD 720i, 720p, 1080i and 1080p The number is the number of lines of resolution, obviously the more the better. the letters stand for interlace and progressive. An interlaced screen only refreshes half the lines (every other one) at a time, progressive refreshes them all each time. Progressive is better, but you may or may not be able to tell the difference. If you are hooking them to a game system Xbox 360 puts out all formats up to 1080i, Playstation 3 puts out all formats to 1080p. From what I've seen at Wal-Mart, they do not carry anything over 720p whether it is new or not. Go someplace else.. The best prices I've seen are at onsale.com next best at Circuit City. Best rated brands are Phillips, and Sony. Top quality rated are Samsung, Mitsubitishi and Olevia/Syntax. Most other brands are made in China or Taiwan.
  25. Do you have a pic of it on the bike?
