Venture stumbling in high gear
hig4s replied to 54chevybelair's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ewww, that's the problem... Sorry, born and raised in GR,, my mom still lives there, I moved away a looooong time ago.. rev limiter hits between 5600rpm to 5800rpm,, Which sucks as peak HP is at 6000rpms. I believe prior to 99 it was higher than 6000rpms. -
Cheap test is get a piece of fuel line and bypass the filter, if it runs, buy a new filter.

Not a bad idea, especially seeing that as good a bikes as the LT are, their prices drop quite a bit used.

Those are still dunlops!

So you lose the passing lamps, the comfy touring seat, the trunk, the touring windshield, and you get the old style Nomad bags, all for only $1000 less. I'd pay the extra $1000 and take off the trunk and windshield and store them if I didn't want to use them. And there is no ABS option? If I ever get rid of my RSV, it will be for a touring bike with ABS.

Very strange, they use the same fairing as the Voyager that has built in passing lamps and they just leave them out? Turn the openings into vents?

Wheel base: Honda ST1300 is 59 in FJR1300 is 61 in K1600GTL is 63 in,, Royal star is 67 in Goldwing is 66 in K1200lt is 64 in Yes I rounded to the nearest inch Looks like they are going for something between full dress and sport touring. Looks a lot like a Yamaha FJR1300 wit a trunk to me..

Well, people have had issues with Metzlers chunking and failing, Avons now cracking, it appears Dunlop is having issues, their D402s are failing. (not that we use D402s on the Ventures) The stock Bridgestones just suck. Looks like my next set might have to be Michelin.

.1% for those that carry without permits
-
The actual stats for Florida are .07% of the population have conceal carry permits. So it would be more like 99.83% But it is a matter of demographic, location and odds. Just driving down to a cruise, and driving home after wards the odds are much less than cruising the country and stopping lots of different places. And don't tell me you don't play the odds. We all do every time we get on a bike. Do you wear all the gear all the time.. Even just going a mile to the store, you take time to suit up? He asked for suggestions, I gave one, I wasn't suppose to be a debate.

Evaluation of a Yamaha FJR 1300 and a Honda St 1300
hig4s replied to E-Fishin-C's topic in Watering Hole
90/10,, That is a bit optimistic, I have ridden both, and the FJR handled about the same as my 03 Kaw ZR7s, and no where near as well as my 750 Ninja. Id say more 70/30 for the FJR. I'm glad my wife wouldn't let me get one, I would have probably been stupid with it. It does task you to try that next corner just a little faster each time. -
The Disney cruise lot is pretty secure, it is right next to the boat and they watch it all the time. But that being said, unless you plan on hanging out at shady places before or after the cruise, there is no reason to bring it.

Getting a first bike soon and need a gear checklist!
hig4s replied to GAWildKat's topic in Watering Hole
If you are thinking you might want your own bike eventually, I would recommend he start on a V-star 650, nice light bike but still has some room and potential for comfort. And would be right there for you when he decided to move up. I personally never felt I needed anything over a 650 when I rode solo. And even two up I never had anything over a 750 until I got the Venture.. Still never felt I needed more power than a 750, just wasn't enough room to be comfortable on any of the modern 750s riding two up. And as the years have gone by, comfort has become more and more important. -
I have an older Casio Xlim,, And a Nikon Coolpix L20 10mp. the Casio is very thin and convenient to carry but the Nikon takes much better pictures.. They now have the L22 which is 12mp for right around $120, and the new Nikon Coolpix3000 12mp (almost as slim as the Casio) for about $150 and you can find the Coolpix S70 thin but a little larger with touch panel display for about $200.

Getting a first bike soon and need a gear checklist!
hig4s replied to GAWildKat's topic in Watering Hole
As far as the computers go, virtually ever car on the market in the last 4 years has those same systems with virtually no issues. My Jeep Wrangler has them.. Although with a Jeep, once you start lifting and putting bigger tires on they do have issues. As far as leg room, she's 5'1". -

Learning to ride the bike is the easy part. It is the heightened awareness required to be safe on two wheels that is the hard part. I taught my wife the controls on an ATV back when I use to ride quads and dirtbikes. From there she had no problem with passing the safety course, but after she learned what they had to say she decided against her own bike and didn't get her endorsement. She feels safer riding with me than being in traffic herself. Although lately she has considered taking the course again as she likes the new Can-Am Sypders, and they require a motorcycle endorsement down here for them. -

I suggest, and use these.. they are mesh, with a rain liner that zips inside, and an insulated liner zips inside the rain liner. depending on how you wear it, I find it good from high 80s down to low 40s, and the two liners take up a lot less room in my bags when on a trip. I do also have a pair of rain over pants and chaps for when I wear jeans instead of my riding pants. But that is usually only on short day trips. www.tourmaster.com/xcart/catalog/Venture-Air-Pant-p-227_4.html www.tourmaster.com/xcart/catalog/Intake-Air-Series-2-Jacket-p-269_3.html -
I got this http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm and this http://www.customdynamics.com/quad_license.htm but the license plate frame is somewhat of a pain to install.
