  1. Thanks,, Not sure if I will really get a different bike, but if I do a clearer intercom would be nice, and ABS a must.. I've always like the looks of the Wing, but I love the looks of the new BMW GTL, but being new it is out of my current price range..
  2. You said synthetics are not the best to use? and you have been using synthetics for 60K miles?
  3. Thanks for the responses, but the this in not mic noise as I have inline controls on both my mic and headset.. Turning the mic down does nothing, so I turn the headset down after a while on long trips when it starts to bother me. Of course then I can't hear the passenger at all. As far a volume, if I set it where the hiss doesn't bother me it is too low to hear the passenger at all. Even if I adjust it to where is is loud enough to hear the passenger, at freeway speeds it is not clean enough to under stand the passenger over the bikes wind noise. I actually have very good hearing, and most people cannot even hear the hiss I hear. And what really bothers me about it is Yamaha produces high quality stereo equipment, why not for the bikes? But back to the original question, is the GW intercom any better than the RSV? I have talked to HD Ultra riders that us the same headsets and they say they have no problems, not sure if the HD intercom is better or not, but not sure I want an Ultra anyway, and certainly cannot afford one now. Basically I'm trying to decide if I decide to get a new bike, do any of them have better intercoms. Because it has got to the point we rarely bother to use our head set cables.
  4. For those that have had both RSV and GW,, I find the one complaint I have on the RSV is the intercom.. It seems to have a faint hiss all the time, and it very hard to hear or use at freeway speeds. Under 55mph it is only ok.. Is the GW intercom any better?
  5. It is less about the wind, than the wind noise and the headaches it gives me..
  6. Yeah, I do the Pledge thing too, but at least the Clearview has a better sweep back and sheds water much better than the stock, it was bad even with Pledge. And I couldn't see of the stock one either.
  7. synthetic vs dino oil is irrelevant, 10w-40 dino and 10w-40 synth are the exact same viscosity!!!!!!!!
  8. I did the XXL clearview with vent, my wife says it is much better now.
  9. Every bike I've ever owned, new or used, no matter how many miles, I have switched to synthetic oil and never had a clutch slip.
  10. It will not decrease the distance you need to stop, it will make it easier to lock up the front wheel.. Just switch from using two fingers on the front brake to using three. I have no problem stopping. And prior to the Venture I road a ZR7S and a 750 Ninja. It would be different if like the other brand big bikes, this thing had ABS, but as it is too much of a good thing can be a bad thing. +1 on the smaller front tire, I switched from the stock 150 front to an Avon MT90B (130) and while it still doesn't fall into corners like the Ninja did, it no longer fights cornering either, much more neutral.
  11. I did PCH years ago, both on bike and in a car. did Cherohala and Dragons Tail a few years back on the bike. And did some of the Virgina portion of the Blue Ridge last year, but only in a car.
  12. from the research I've done, and from personal experience I think the following are good Amsoil Mobil 1 Castrol Syntec Rotella synthetic I buy which ever of these I can find the easiest and cheapest. Which so far, is never Amsoil. The only ones I really question are Redline and Royal Purple, I have seen tests where they didn't do as well as some non-synthetics, yet the cost as much or more than Amsoil.
  13. I knew ethanol from corn was not actually any benefit, I didn't realize producing ethanol from sugar cane was that efficient.
  14. The IIHS released a report in 2007 suggesting that certain types of motorcycles be either banned or restricted from use on public roads, specifically sportbikes, after lumping together several different types of non-sport motorbikes into makeshift categories, allegedly to skew the crash data in favor of its argument. The 2007 report mirrored a similar IIHS study released in 1987, which was claimed by the IIHS to be based on findings in the famous Hurt report motorcycle crash study, and which was used to influence a U.S. Sen. into proposing a law that would have mandated horsepower limits for bikes sold in America. Dr. Hugh H. (“Harry”) Hurt, Jr., the noted author of the report, called the 1987 IIHS study "sloppy" and "fatally flawed".[/url] Citing its similarities to the 1987 report, AMA called the 2007 IIHS report "...a bike classification shell game". An AMA news release stated: "We beat the IIHS sportbike ban [in 1987], and we even got Sen. Danforth on our side, saying that he recognized that the AMA had the constituent interest in motorcycle safety and that his IIHS-backed bill was a 'dead-end street.'". Ed Moreland, AMA vice president for government relations, said of the 2007 report: "This kind of flawed report, passed off as scientific research, has the potential to do great damage. At the very least, it can create false perceptions we’ll have to fight for years. And at worst, it could lead to restrictive laws that have no basis in reality.”.
  15. Commercial vehicles have completely different regulations. Apples to oranges.. It would only be fair to stop all motorcycles this week (because it is bike week at Daytona) if they had stopped all sporty and muscle cars last month (when it was speed week in Daytona)
  16. Check with the phone company, they should be able to tell you the approximate location where the 7am text was sent from.
  17. I have a Sportster 883
  18. Brownie with ice cream!!!
  19. Hey, if WBC has decided they want to P#$$off the Pope, I say they should go for it!!! Maybe he can arrange for them to see the real wrath of God. As far as their right to protest, I am more than a little concerned the SC does not consider this on par with hate speeches which are not protected under the 1st amendment. And I also wonder how they have a right to protest at cemeteries, as most are private property. Unless they only protest at National Cemeteries which are public?
  20. Yeah, but do we really want Canadians?? Canadiens?? The more the merrier!!!
  21. truckers use a 6 second rule? That must be counting from the car in front of me!!
  22. Yeah, Windows 7 doesn't have a built in e-mail program like previous Windows OS. You have to download one, either from Microsoft or who ever you want. check out this http://news.cnet.com/8301-13860_3-10048142-56.html and this http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/e-mail-calendar-photo-and-video-programs-for-windows-7 once you have an e-mail program on the box, you can set up the pop3 stuff to include your Hotmail, Yahoo or what ever.
  23. watch it again, all the way to the end when it is slowed down, you can see the deer's shadow.. You can actually see where the deer's shadow passed behind the bike, so the deer was trying to jump over the bike but was actually a bit behind it. I actually saw this a few years ago, I believe it was near and during the Sturgis rally.
  24. OK, I have seen a few people say that. I rode the new Wing, BMWLT and the RSV several times before I bought the RSV, and under 5mph to a stop I always found the RSV easier to maneuver, and since I bought it and switched from the 150 front to a 130 I find it even better. So I have to ask, what do you mean by low speed?
  25. When we tested all the touring bikes my wife thought the BMW K1200LT was the most comfortable for the passenger, Royal Star second, Goldwing third and the HD Ultra a little cramped, (that was the HD before the 09 Frame change) I thought the Royal start was most comfortable for me, BMW second, Wing 3rd, but I had issues with the Wing being top heavy at stops, the foot pegs being right where I wanted to put my feet down, and first gear being a little high making it tough for me in stop and go situations. As far as engine size, any bike over 1000cc has plenty of power. Before I bought the RSV I added hard bags and trunk and toured on an old Kaw 750. Even two up it had enough power for anything I wanted to do, just not enough room for two people.
