Well - you can put on your helmet and get used to the head banging , or if you've been good, you could ask Santa for an IPOD and ignore the radio world. Have a Merry Christmas!! Dave

Meeeery Christmas to the Hansens!! That pic brings back great memories of all those who joined us on that trip. May the season bring you great joy with family and friends. Dave & Jan

Wally- As long as the opening to the clutch line remained completely covered with fluid, no air should have gotten in. Dave
-
Double check the owners manual but the 1st Gens use the same DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid in both the brake system and the clutch system. I imagine that it's the same for the 2nd Gen. Glad there was no damage to the paint!! Dave

Congrats to your sons and your family. It takes a lot of effort to accomplish, especially when you consider that only 3% of all boys that start scouting achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. As the father of two Eagle Scouts, I understand your reason and right to be so proud. Congrats again. Dave

Hey Mike- Good luck on your plumbing repairs. If you don't get professional help (I know I need professional help), I've done a fair amount and would be glad to help if I can. Dave

Don- Now there's an idea, change by the word! LOL Dave

Anyone in Indiana looking for a 1st Gen

Gees-- I have my '88 for sale for $2200.00, 36K and only got 3 calls on it. Granted the weather is turning cold but if they can get that price, I'll sell them mine. Dave -
MRK 2 Questions
utadventure replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I also ride an '86 but I can't answer all the questions. I'm sure others will chime in. 1. Seems a tad high. Does it have a speedo healer? The speedometer is not accurate. I turn about 3650-3700 at 70 (going by memory or is it memory is going). 2. 32 mpg is what I usually get unless I'm in the mountains/twisties going 40 or so. 3. I believe the stator is the same. Don't know on the clutch. 4. Forks are different because of the anti-dive on the later models but they are interchangable. That's about all the help I can be. Dave -
I run the same on my '86 at 42 lbs rear/ 40 lbs front. Dave

That appears to be the bridge that will cross the gorge just below Hoover Dam! That's one I want to ride. Dave

I got some pretty good information from the http://www.viragotech.com site. Dave

There is a program our IT department uses here called GHOST. They connect both the old drive and a new drive to the computer. Boot the computer using a CD and then with GHOST duplicate the old drive to the new drive. Then you have a completely new drive (larger usually) that contains your operating system and everything ready to go. Dave

Twin Antenna Set-up
utadventure replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The splitter is a challenge for the CB to function well. When I did mine, I ran an antenna to each the radio and the CB and eliminated it. It made matching the CB antenna to the CB much easier. Dave -
Congrats to you Bill. Hang tough and enjoy a long life!! Dave

In a way, I feel a little bit like Eck. In May the company I was working for decided to shut down. My wife and I were able to make arrangements to start our own data collection call center so we were able to keep ourselves and 20 others employed. We've just started a website and posted the pics from our Halloween get together. If you would like to see the pic or are just willing to visit the site to help build relevance in the search engines, please click here! The pics are large so they take just a minute to display. Thanks! Dave PS. I kept the pics of my wife as a Harley Babe private....

I feel sorry for the "mess" they have in their garages. I'll volunteer to suffer and come over and clean out some of that junk!! Dave

Bob- Three things come to mind here but they aren't very different than already discussed. 1- A starter can test well on the bench but be failing once placed under a load. Is it possible to put you starter in someone elses bike or theirs in you bike? 2- A battery can show fully charged and still not have sufficient cold cranking amps to start your bike. This is usually because of low water (probably not your problem) or one or more of the cells being partially or fully incapacitated. You test with the car battery leads me to make this the most likely issue. 3- Your starter may have a small short to ground condition in which it needs more amperage than normal. Your test with the car battery and the small hesitation makes this a second possibility. Car condition and jumper cables (connection) also could do this. Maybe George or someone else will jump in and might have testing techniques on some of this. Dave

Congrats on the re-tired part!! Best wishes on your mom. Our prayers are for her to recover quickly and completely. Dave

I've had an ongoing problem with one of the three oxygen sensors that my 2000 Jimmy has. It keeps having the same one fail. Like you, we have just unplugged it for now. The oxygen sensor sends continuous info to the cars main computer which uses the info to adjust the air/fuel mixture going to the cylinders. When mine fails, it continually sends that the system is to lean and the computer then enrichens the appropriate cylinders. With it unplugged, the computer uses a default to run the motor. It has hurt my mileage a little bit in the mean time but not nearly as bad as when it fails and the cost of the replacement. Dave

Good morning Jack!! The feature was added not to long ago. I believe the intent is that if you go to add a new thread about a subject that has previously been discussed, you can review the old thread a possibly find your answer there without having to create a new thread. It can be somewhat annoying but also a quick way to find an answer. Dave

PB&J- I had the same thing on my '86 when I first bought it and changed out the speedo. Since then I learned that the gears inside the speedo need lubrication and that many have removed the speedo, turned it upside down and added lube through the cable connection. Others will chime in here with more specific info on solving this. Dave

We'll keep her in our prayers. Dave

I would have left it for you Jack but I thought you might still be picking up piece of computer!! Dave
