  1. In order for the system to function, you need: JMCB-2003 SL or DU Antenna 18' Antenna Cable Antenna Mounting Bracket (I made my own with a machinist friend) Headsets - I have the JM Elite 584 Appropriate Lower Cord - One each for Rider and Pillion (I have the 5-pin for the Venture and Jan needed the 6-pin to go with the JMCB) It will cost some $$$ to get setup but worth it in the long run. Dave
  2. You can get all kinds of different tour packs. I think there you'll have to check out a few for quality and price. Dave gave a great link to Rick's seat mod. Worth every penny!! The J & M can be purchased numerous places. If you have a passenger, get the JMCB-2003-DU. This gives you a CB for group communications, intercom for you and your passenger and a 3.5mm plug to connect to an MP3 player or other devices. I bought my wifes at www.sierra-mc.com and the antenna from Right Channel Radios. I could have bought it all at Right Channel but Sierra provided free shipping. Give us a little time, we'll help you spend that $5500....LOL We haven't even started on farkle!! Dave
  3. Great looking!!! IMHO, a good tourpak will give you the long range storage you need for a long trip instead of a trunk. Have Rick Butler redo your seats and they'll keep you comfy for many a mile. I would also suggest the J&M CB/intercom for you and your pillion. Dave
  4. You are suppose to be in Colorado? Hope you're back to work soon... go for a ride, you'll feel better. Dave
  5. We resemble that remark!! LOL Rob glad to have you here contributing to making this the great site that it is. Just wait until you really need help.... these guys will be on ya like a rat on a cheeto! Dave
  6. This definitely has risk involved but... jack it (and maybe suspend it also) so that you can operate the go kart without it moving. With the kart up, you can turn the steering left and right and try to reproduce the shutdown. Maybe try at a few different RPM's. This could help determine if it's wheel position or the shift in inertia like the carb bowl or debris in the gas tank. Dave
  7. One shot and you bagged a bird.....good hunting!! Glad everyone is safe and no lasting damage. Dave
  8. I had an uncle that use to do a lot of his own car tire mounting and balancing and he had a strap that he would put around the tread of the tire and cinch it down causing the sidewalls to move to the rim. Might help? You may be doing this already. Dave
  9. Utah Lake in Utah County flows north via the Jordan River to the Great Salt Lake in SL County. Unless I'm reading my compass wrong....
  10. In SLC, near the Capitol, there is an optical illusion. It works great in a car. The Capitol is located on the hills at the north end of the SL valley. As you go past it on the east side the road splits, the left fork going further up the mountain and the right fork going into Memory Grove. From the perspective of driving, the right fork appears to go down into the park but in reality it does continue very gradually uphill. It was always fun to take new people there, stop on the right fork with the car in neutral and have the car start to roll "uphill". Dave
  11. Welcome to the forum!! Email has been sent. Dave
  12. Now she can get that special home touch care. Dave
  13. Here are some pics: http://s470.photobucket.com/albums/rr70/utadventure/Trunk%20Repair/
  14. Brandon- The ABS plastic does become more brittle over the years. I would recommend you reinforce both areas. The support area behind the mirror, where the passenger backrest attaches will crack/break in time. Mine was damaged when I bought the bike. As I had to paint the trunk to match, I took the time to repair it at the same time. I'll look up the photos tonight. Mine even had a small piece of plastic missing. I put masking tape on the outside to prevent a mess on the outside of the trunk, and then used ABS glue to weld the cracks back together. Next I put a layer of ABS glue over the entire area the backrest bolts into and worked a piece of fiberglass cloth into the glue using the but end of a screwdriver and allowed it to set. Finally I cut a piece of LEXAN large enough to cover the area and applied another layer of ABS glue and held it in place with some wood blocks and C clamps while it dried. After all was set I re-drilled the mounting holes and attached the backrest. I did the repair 4 years ago and all is good still. Mounting areas - Last weekend on a ride, one of the other riders mentioned that my trunk was bouncing a lot. Upon inspection, I learned that on the base (nearest the back of the bike) the trunk had cracked almost all the way from side to side. I pulled the trunk when I got home and a friend of mine helped with the repair. Again we taped the outside to contain any leaking. First we used an epoxy to repair the crack. Next he used fiberglass to add support to the entire area of the crack. I haven't reinstalled the truck yet but I'm pleased with how it appears and hopefully the strength. Time will tell. Dave
  15. Which part are you looking to reinforce? The base/mounting area...the backrest area....both?
  16. Curtis- Someone with more experience will probably chime in here but I would imagine that the air loss is related to the fork oil leak. If you add the progressive springs to the front end you likely won't need the CLASS setup for it but it would still be usefull for the rear. I don't have the controller but I do have the compressor and it's cover if you decide to pursue this. Dave
  17. Bob- You'll learn to appreciate it more and more. Find the write up on installing the progressive springs on the site here. You can install them without having to remove the forks. Did it on an '88 and it worked great! Dave
  18. Dan- I hope you enjoy your trip to Niagara Falls!! One thing I really enjoy is a waterfall. Don't know why, maybe it's that you can visually see the awesome power of the water flowing over the edge. Here's a couple pics to "wet" your appetite. 1. Our son Andy at Niagara Falls in May 2008 (didn't have papers to go to the Canadian side) 2. Ancillary falls at Iquazu Fall in Jan 2005 (border of Argentina/Brazil) 3. Devils Throat/Iguazu Falls Dave
  19. Glad to hear you're hanging in there and back on line a little bit. Stay safe and come home soon. Dave
  20. Great job Teri. Master of the world!! Award winning, if I recall correctly. Dave
  21. There have been some aftermarket diaphragms available at sci@siriusconinc.com for prices better than Yamaha. Might want to check with them...mention your with the Venturerider.org Dave
  22. What do you guys think? It is starting to have 2nd gear issues. Would it be worth it to buy and then put the motor from an '88 in it? Dave
  23. This guy must have a great bike to have a VR from 1998. Maybe it's worth so much because it has MKI luggage. http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=218&ad=10682044&cat=144&lpid= Dave
  24. That's a real bummer!! LOL
  25. Vinny- My opinion. You can spend a lot of time and money adding a CB with 20+ year parts and it may still not work well or... you can get the J&M CB (jmcb-2003) that also allow you to hook up an IPOD type devise and can get a version with an intercom for you and a passenger. Like I said.... my two cents worth! It have an '86 and my wife has a '08 Harley with the J & M. If works great!! Dave
