  1. Many here like to winter in St. George area. I have an Aunt & Uncle that do it every year. Dave
  2. Pinch bolts were very lose. What a difference a day (an cooler temps) make. Got a small screwdriver to go in the gap, then a little bigger screwdriver and the axle bolt slid right in. A little bit a work and the tire was back on. The bike looks great! Sam should be adding pictures after classes today. Dave
  3. Sorry to hear it Ted. Hope it all works out here soon. Dave
  4. Ditto. If you want to ride a bit further, Arches is the best in Moab, Utah. Dave
  5. University of Utah Runnin' Utes!! Utah by 5 Dave
  6. We have just the washing machine. It quit working (pumping) after we had it about 2.5 years. Luckily the pump wasn't burned up but stopped because the filter was plugged. You need to do some periodic maintenence to keep it working well. My model doesn't have access to the filter without removing the lower front panel but I understand newer models have an access panel. Dave
  7. I've had good luck locating anything I need or want on www.mapquest.com or the Harley-davidson route planner. Rand-McNally's make an Atlas that is good to purchase. One thing you might consider is purchasing AAA RV Plan tow protection. They also have a route planner and will plan routes and provide maps.
  8. We're excited to get to know you in Cody!!! Oh, and the list of offers of places to stay just got one longer. We are in the Salt Lake area and have room. You can visit the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and then go south to Zions National Park and Arches National Parks. Both a beautiful! Dave & Jan
  9. I think one of the biggest changes you'll find is in the registration and sales tax laws. You might want to find a state that doesn't have or has a low tax rate. Dave
  10. This is the homecoming each of our soldiers should receive..... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nr7DcJdbCS0]YouTube- Military Reunion[/ame] Thank you to the soldiers and their families for their sacrifice. Now you can explain to all your co-workers why you're blubbering.....
  11. Unless the hard drive itself has failed or your allocation table has been corrupted, all of your data should still be on the drive. Get a second drive and format it, load your operating system etc. Put the original drive in as a second drive and transfer all of your business/personal data. Now you have a backup of all of your data. Maybe erase the anti-virus software??? Put the original drive back in alone and run the operating system recovery/repair and see if it will come back to life. Good luck! Dave
  12. We continue to ask the Lords blessings for you and your family. It's wonderful to have such a wonderful wife to help you through (even if you do fool her once in a while, she's probably not a fooled as we think, just patient) Dave
  13. Pat- First, congrats on the coming child. The only thing better....grandchildren. But all that in due time. Second, sorry to here about you being victimized. Once by the identity thief and then by the financial system. At least time will heal the second one. Take the funds you would be paying on a scoot this year and stick it in the bank as savings, then next spring, go find yourself a good 1st gen and ride it. You can always trade for a newer model later but you can be riding in the mean time (1st gens are faster anyway). Dave
  14. Yellowstone? It's right around here somewhere....
  15. If you bought this new from a dealer, the noise filter should be blocking all of this. If it was used and you didn't get a noise filter, they are well worth the investment. Dave
  16. We rode it as part of the Cody Roundup last year but had to contend with road construction. I hope that was all completed before your rides this year. It is a fantastic ride. I look forward to riding it again at the 2011 Cody Roundup II Dave
  17. Maybe their refrigerator was running....
  18. I appreciate the frustration that comes with receiving unwanted telemarketing calls. I dislike them as much as the next guy and am on the "national do not call list". But as someone who ownes a market research data collection call center (survey company). It generally is not the intent to bother people but to obtain information that can help improve products and services. After reviewing their website, Logitgroup appears to be a legitimate research firm not a scam or front for a sales call. (They use the same software system I do) If you don't want them to call you back, the best thing you can do is answer the phone and tell them you absolutely will not participate in the survey. The interviewer can then mark the number as a "refusal" and you shouldn't receive any further calls. Dave Does this mean no one on the vr.org site will take my calls?????
  19. I want to say thanks for this idea. I cleaned the carbs on my '86, thought they were about as perfect as you could want. Put them on the bike and filled the float bowls and still had fuel coming out the one overflow port (right rear....coincidence?). After a couple of shots of compressed air (and an unanticipated fuel fountain), no more leaking from the overflow port. Buttoned it up and went for a 100 mile ride last night. The bike ran great through the mountains and probably got 40 mpg on the ride. Beating a thunderstorm up the freeway to home the last 35 miles probably dropped the mpg but still had a great time. Dave
  20. My IT guy here was a radio specialist for the military and has educated me a little on antennas. (yes, a little information can be scary) Radio antennas (CB, Ham etc) radiate in the transmission signal outward along the length of the antennas. You need to make sure any antenna mounted is straight up and down. An antenna mounted sideways in the saddlebag or trunk would perform poorly because the signal is being transmitted straight down at the ground or sideways and upward but not forward or back. Another thing I learned is that all antennas are essentially the same length in order to not have excessive signal returned to the CB unit. The difference is that in order to have a shorter antenna, say 2', the wire has to be wound tighter (or in a load). While it works, it does, as was mentioned, have a lower performance. Another idea.... my wife also dislikes and the endless chatter on the CB so, when on group rides, she turns on her IPOD and moves up or down one channel from the group. If I need her, I know where to find her and she can quickly rejoin the group channel if necessary. Good Luck Dave
  21. They are not as hard as one might think. Having reliable parts from a 27 year old bike might be. We just got the system working on my son's bike (we had all of the necessary parts already). You need the amp, radio/intercom controller, antenna & mount, speakers, headset to amp cable, and power connector. Your bike may already have some of this and the remainder might be available from members here or ebay. For the money, time and reliability... I'd go with a J&M CB unit (JMCB-2003). They come in the single or dual rider (dual rider has an intercom feature). This allows you to do everything the original audio system on the Venture had except AM/FM radio built in. I added one of these to my wife's bike and she loves it and it performs well. Best of luck and welcome to VentureRiders!! Dave
  22. The needle we're talking about is the needle in the end of the slider. It adjust the rich/lean status of the carb when you throttle up based on vacuum in each cylinder (carb). It is the needle shown in the diagram and marked as part of #21. Diagram Hope it helps! Dave
  23. The needles themselves may be interchangable but if I understand correctly the outside diameter of the sliders are different. Dave
  24. Remove the side panels and the chrome pieces right behind the radiator and you should have access to the exhaust pipes and can do the recommended touch test. This will also give you access to pull the lower faring if you need to. I would also remove the air cleaner so you can see inside the carbs. Look to see if all four of the sliders are moving when you throttle up (I will probably run crappy during this observations because it will be getting too much air). If they don't all move, take a screwdriver and gentle pry the slider in a bit. It won't take much and they don't have to move very far. Best of luck!!
  25. Sorry about the mix up on the link. Monty found the right bike.
