My Radio is Demon Possessed.
utadventure replied to Midicat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When I first got my '86 I would hit a bump and the left speaker would disappear. I found that the radio didn't seat all the way into the connectors (mounted) in the faring directly under the radio. Check that first. Dave -
I know I'm CB stupid...
utadventure replied to elmicko's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you already run dual antennas your ahead of the game. If the cable you currently have for the CB has a PL259 male plug on each end, you don't need a new cable. If it has the PL259 end on the CB end and is wired directly to the OEM antenna, you can cut it and install you own PL259 but the cable length change can effect the match to the radio (SWR). -
One of the known issues is the connector from the stator to the regulator shorting out. Suggested fix is to remove the connector and solder the wires. Also, check the valve clearance. Dave

Without seeing pics of what you have, I'm guessing you need a mounting lug that goes on the antenna bracket. The cable (PL259) connector goes on the bottom and the antenna screws into the lug. http://www.rightchannelradios.com/cb-springs-studs-84/cb-antenna-stud-mount-screw-on-270.html Unless you install two antennas, you'll probably have a challenge with the connection on the other end also. The radio end OEM setup has a motorola end that plugs into an antenna splitter. If you stay with a single antenna, you'll probably have to change the connector on the other end of the cable. I suggest you go with the Marshall Mod Dave -

GfK is a reputable company, I've done work for them. The $100.00 is called an honorarium and is provided to individuals/companies that qualify for and complete the study. Usually sent via check in 30 or so days. They have an off in MN and this may be a panel where you go into their office at which time they may pay you on the spot. You should know if you're qualified in the first few questions. I'd say, go for it!! Where else can you make $66.67 an hour. Dave

utadventure replied to waterbug's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Rocky Mountain ATV/MC had great prices when we replaced Sam's rear tire. At least worth looking at: http://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/home.do Dave -
Getting a first bike soon and need a gear checklist!

Once you get the rider outfitted, do the same for your bike: Tire repair kit Basic tool kit Oil Brake Fluid First Aid Kit Dave -
Sure, take a look at this: http://www.jmcorp.com/ProductDetail.asp?ProductID=HC-ZB-S&PF=8 I don't know if it's compatible with what you currently have but may help you in a conversation with the J & M people. I've found them to be both knowledgable and helpful in past communications. Dave

With the J&M speakers you can simply undo them at the connector. J & M also makes a lower cord and has a 3.5 mm female jack built in. This will allow you to plug in your headphones and still have the mic functional. Dave

Rentalguy's Build Thread
utadventure replied to rentalguy1's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Congrats on the bike!! You'll continue to fall in love with it. Your garage looks much like mine. I ride an '86 Venture and my wife an '08 Sportster 1200C. Hope you can join us for the International Rally in Cody next July!! Dave -
I have the Utopia and it works great! I got mine with the quick release and just pop it out when Jan rides with me as it does make the passenger area smaller. I does have adjustment to the backrest to move it forward for the rider but the base itself remains the same. Dave

If I remember correctly, Paul is at work today and heading out tomorrow on a ride for the weekend. You may not hear from him for a few days. Dave

Even comes with guardian bell (you have dinner follow you home) Dave

If it looks like a drop inside a circle with parentheses brackets around it, it's to let you know that either your front or read brake fluid reservoir is low.

We have some maroon left over from my son's bike. I'll just mix in some white until we have enough for the bike.....does he like light red? LOL

FM Antenna Wiring
utadventure replied to elmicko's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If your antenna is stock, and you have or had a CB, the OEM antenna provides signal to both your CB and AM/FM. The antenna wire comes from the rear of the bike and enters a "splitter" which then in turn provides signal to both devices. Many, including me, have separated the tow units and mounted individual antennas for each. (search: Marshall Mod) This mod works very well. If you want to maintain the OEM antenna for the CB, you'll need to replace the existing connector with a PL-259 connector. Then you add a second antenna for the radio and connect it to the splitter. Hope this helps... Dave -
Thanks!! Doug has a lever in Orem and so does Paul. Don't spend anymore time looking. I appreciate everyones help and I will continue to post or PM any additional needs as the bike progresses. BTW Annie, what color does Alan like? Dave

I haven't checked the cable yet but the needle is laying in the bottom of the speedo and the PO heard a pop when it stopped working. Dave

Picked up an '84 Venture for Quickstep and Aussie Annie's trip to the US next year. I rode it the 135 miles home and the motor and gear worked perfect so we can do the necessary repair work to have it ready to go. Then the adventure began... We stopped at the Wally Mart in Richfield, Ut to do a few things. Because the speedo is broken, I went to mount a bracket to hold my GPS so I'd know the speed I was traveling. The bracket caught the edge of the penny that was glued on the clutch master cylinder and Jan asked me what was leaking? Oh Crap!! OK, into the store again, screwdrivers, super-glue, adjustable wrench and start the repair. Next thing I knew I'm holding part of the clutch lever...what the??? After a couple of attempts to fix that problem (BTW, you can't steal the brake lever from the other side) Jan suggests we try one of the crimpy pliers (translation: vise grips). What a great idea. By power shifting wherever possible, rode the bike the rest of the way home. I just kept up this traffic, didn't care how fast I was going. Now we go to work. If anyone has parts that can help make this a great bike again...we are in need of: Speedometer Right Mirror We have a little bit to work with but will need to do some plastic repair, paint and a fork rebuild. We look forward to getting to know Quickstep and Aussie Annie next year at the VR International Rally in Cody and as they travel around. Dave

Just my opinion, but any help is good when you're broke down, it would be nice (if easy to do) to know if someone is a current member or past if you have to make that call. There, you have my 2 cents and my pockets are empty...... Dave
