  1. Hi Guys Went over the weekend and ended up with the 86. It has just had the stator and the battery replaced at the honda dealer. Have the receipts and confirmed the work with the dealer. Runs great. Put 200 miles on it so far. Everything works as advertised. I can see where the charging system is the weak link. I don't really think that it will be able to keep up with the battery if I add a couple of driving lights. I don't know how many amps that stator puts out but it can't be much. Anyone ever come up with an aftermarket fix? John Key Largo, Fl.
  2. I would really like to thank everyone for all their thoughts and ideas. You have all been a great help to me. I am going to look at the bike today and will post what happened. This site is really fantastic. I wish that there was one only half as good for the wings. I have done some web surfing and found nothing other than "social" sites. Seems like the only information talked about is where they are all going to meet for their next meal !! LOL Thanks Again John Florida Keys:thumbsup2:
  3. Hi Guys, I love my venture but I'm looking at a 85 1200 goldwing. Can anyone give me some tips of things to be concerned about? I know every bike has it's own set of common problems....some of which can get very expensive ! Thanks John
  4. I just did this two days ago on my 84. It is a bit of a pain but if you follow the wise ideas already losted it will make the job a lot easier. I am now in search of a monkey that I can train for the next time something like this has to happen. I have discovered that whatever I need to get to on this bike it is always at the bottom of the bike and somewhere near the center. Big fat hands with stubby fingers so not work well in this type of situation. Now.... small , slender monkey hands would work fine and because he would be short he would not be spending hours bent over in some ungodly position. He could just stand there and work.
  5. Hi Guys, Does anyone know of a nice replacement radio for the old unit. Mine is not working in my 84. I just can't see spending all the time and money to try to chase down, repair and or replace this old system with more old parts. Doesn't anyone make a nice motorcyle sterio system with an intercom that can be retrofit into the bike????? Thanks for any ideas John
  6. Well Guys....Thanks for all the ideas ! I started the bike and let it run on the center stand for about 30 minutes at a high idle. Took the bike out and everything seemed to work as advertised. No problems so I filled up with fresh fuel and took a little 60 mile ride. Bike ran great. Tomorrow I will change the oil. Thanks again !! John
  7. Thanks ! I will check that but it does shift into gear fine. It's like once it's in gear and I go to let out the clutch and the bike starts to move forward there is something "bogging" the bike down . It doesn't want to move freely. Like something in the transmission is not letting the engine "power" be transferred to the rear wheel. Like I'm trying to pull a 500lb weight with the bike.
  8. Hi Guys, I need some help. Parked my 84 Venture for about 6 months. Was running fine when I last rode it. Put in fresh fuel and bike started right up. Engine seems to be working just fine. Went to put it in gear and the bike stalled. Checked the kick stand switch and all was good. If I idle up the engine quite a bit and then go into gear the bike will move but it's like it doesn't want to . If I try to manually move the bike it rolls around just fine. I am assuming that there is a transmission issue. What could have gone wrong just sitting there and what can I check out myself before I have t haul the bike 70 miles to the closest yamaha dealer?? Thanks...John
  9. Hey Guys, I'm looking for a trunk latch for my 85. One side of mine is damaged and missing so I'm looking for a complete replacement. Anyone have any ideas of where I can find one used or new? Thanks !
  10. Hi Guys, I'm the new owner of an 85 venture. There is a weird thing going on with the neutral light. When you first start the bike it works as advertised. After you ride for a while and the bike gets hot the light will no longer work. Not only that but the bike no longer knows when it's in neutral. What I mean is even if the bike is in neutral and you put side stand down the bike will shut down as if it was in gear. If you let the bike cool down for a couple of hours and start it up the light works fine again and side stand will not shut off the bike if put down when in neutral. Any ideas??
