I've bought several phones over the last two years on eBay and have been very satisfied with my purchases and with both Sellers I've used. I personally prefer to not have a service contract, and this is the only way I can get a good phone cheap. TERRY

Question concerning second gens vs first gens
Blackjack replied to Chaharly's topic in Watering Hole
I don't see that there is any way to compare the two bikes, as they are on completely different platforms, and therefore have no similar handling characteristics, at all. Both bikes are wonderful, but for very different reasons. TERRY -
checking oil

I vote for the mirror on a stick. It's safe, it's easy, it only takes one, and there's no 850 pound compromise to consider... TERRY -
I wanted to let everyone know that Toni Knox called me about an hour and a half ago with news of Paul's surgery. He had just finished, after about 6 hours, and the doctors say that everything went well! Please post your prayers and well-wishes here in support of a full and speedy recovery. I know they will both appreciate it... Please also check out this thread and show your support if you can: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=45243 Thank You! TERRY

Except for the occasional snow here in the Atlanta area, one can (and this one does!) ride year-round with proper clothing (mine's not even heated). That might be cheaper and less mentally debilitating than having your bike parked since Thanksgiving! I do remember you telling me that you don't like to ride in the winter. You are certainly not alone, as the number of bikes on the road here dwindles considerably during the winter months. Hopefully the weather will be to your liking and we'll see both of you at the March M&E... TERRY

Lots of good comments already, and I would like to add to the discussion: Until you are advised (legally, per the terms specified in your contract) to send the payment to another person or address, you should continue to send the payment as you have so far. However, you are strongly encouraged to send the payments henceforth in a manner that provides tracking (verification!), whether that method is Certified Mail/Return Receipt Requested, USPS Priority Mail (with tracking), FedEx, UPS, etc. Yes, it will cost you more, but it is the only way to confirm that you have done as agreed. Also, be sure to make and keep a copy of the check that you write before you seal it up and attach any delivery documentation you obtain to that copy. Your local (hometown) bank will always be the best source to obtain land financing. It's a standard part of their commitment to the community they serve. Some larger banks will also provide this type of loan, so check with them, as well, for the sake of comparison pricing. Keep in mind that the limits on this type of lending are usually for 60% of the property value. Regular mortgage lenders do not typically provide funds for unimproved property. You will likely want to check with these sources sooner than later to see what your options will be as you near the end date of your current contract. I hope this all goes well for you, and sincerely regret the loss of this "kind old gentleman", as they are, regrettably, becoming extinct. TERRY

Good for you, Randy! Cutting out the sugars (and carbohydrates which convert to sugar) makes a huge difference in how your body works. Congratulations on your progress, and I sure hope I recognize you the next time I see you! TERRY

I used to live in the Tallahassee FL area. I originally went there to go to FSU and ended up staying for about 18 years. It's a lovely area and I enjoy going back occasionally to see some of the many friends that still live there. During the trip this year I decided to see if I could catch up with other Forum members in the area. I sent a PM to jonsmyth (Chuck), oldroadstar (Fred), and TallyVenture (Terry), who were the only “supporting” members in the area (at least that I could find in the Members listing). I met with jonsmyth for coffee and bagels on Tuesday and then met oldroadstar and TallyVenture for lunch on Wednesday. It was a real treat to meet everyone and I sincerely appreciate that all three took the time and made the effort to meet and visit with me. It's always special to spend time with the Forum Family, and it's certainly extra-special when you get to do it so far from home. So, my sincere thanks and a tip-of-the-hat to my new Forum friends: jonsmyth, oldroadstar, and TallyVenture. I sure hope to see you again, somewhere down the road. I was also able to meet with twowheelsonly (Stewart, who lives nearby me here in GA and attends some of our Monthly M&Es) as he was passing through Havana FL on his way to Key West with a group of riders. I hope he's been having a good ride and a great time on that pretty new (to him) BMW. TERRY

I am very glad to hear that you have made it through the surgery and are now back home, Don! Sincere best wishes for a full and speedy recovery. I look forward to seeing you somewhere down the road. Get well and get ridin'... TERRY

I rented a Sportster from this company the last time I was in Vegas and was quite pleased with the whole experience: http://www.eaglerider.com/ It was a straight-forward rental with no "nickel and diming" at all. I highly-recommend the ride to the top of Mt. Charleston, weather permitting! TERRY

I'm so glad you are home and on the road to recovery, Charlene! On the other hand, it's too bad it took two surgeries to get you to post on the Forum!!! You will, I hope, let me know if I can do anything at all to be helpful... Kindest Regards, TERRY

Thanks for the update, Lewis, and I'm delighted to hear that Charlene made it through Round 2 successfully. I appreciate having had the opportunity to visit with both of you yesterday afternoon. Charlene looked great, especially considering that she had already been through one surgery and had been in the hospital for more than two days. Please send my regards to your lovely bride and let me know if I can do anything at all to be helpful. TERRY

Thanks for the update, Lewis! I'm glad to know that Charlene has come through Round 1 in the altogether and that her "pump" is working well. That should help her get through the time between now and Thursday. Please tell her that Janis and I are thinking about her and wishing her the very best. That goes for you, too! TERRY

I'd call again. Perhaps you'll get a better response. If not, realize that you are talking with someone too low on the Totem Pole to make a difference or know how. Talk to someone at a management level, and let them know that you are 1. surprised such a thing would happen with their typically-fine gear and 2. you have the voice of this Forum, which represents many already and future customers. I have always thought that if someone says "no" to me that what they are really saying is "I don't know". Then it becomes my duty to help them find out what they don't know... TERRY

Lucky, indeed! Enjoy your new ride... TERRY

My how things have changed. I remember when I was a kid that my father had a hernia operation and was in the hospital for several days. Now it's considered out-patient surgery! I'm glad to hear you're OK, since that means everything must have gone as planned, with no complications. I wish for you a very speedy and very complete recovery... TERRY

Sincere Best Wishes! for a very successful surgery and a complete and speedy recovery! Please keep us posted on your progress... TERRY

Well, I enjoyed it immensely! That's likely the most impressive stunt driving I've seen. If it's the shoes, then I'm getting a pair, right away... Thanks for the post! TERRY

Here's the thread about the screws that live upside down in the bottom of the gas cap: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35894 If the screws are loose (and likely they are), the parts that comprise the cap get a bit moved around and you'll have trouble getting it off and on. I hope this helps! TERRY

I was much more indirect, Skid, so the credit can easily be yours! I suggested that if it was going to become an annual event, it should NOT be held in August; by default, therefore, choosing August is the first step towards ensuring it does become a semi-annual event. Otherwise, this debate will start all over early next year about when to hold it, either in June or July! TERRY

Mike, I am truly sorry to see that this has upset you so much. On one hand, I can clearly appreciate the sentiment of your comments, as well as others that have chimed in. However, it does not appear that Publix "decided" to do this, as your post suggests. Everything I have read online about this topic clearly indicates that Pearl Harbor Day was never previously on the Calendar, specifically because no days of remembrance are ever included. The Calendar is limited to the mention of Holidays; accordingly, Pearl Harbor Day was not, in fact, "replaced". If you might be otherwise angry that a specific religious holiday is being noted, that, I think, is a different discussion altogether. I will gladly be the first at the site with a picket sign when a business actually does something anti-American, but I don't see that as being the case in this instance. Respectfully, TERRY

I have an Elite III on the rear of my 1st Gen, but only have a few thousand miles on it so far. Handling/traction/performance are certainly as good as any other tires I have tried out. I'll be interested to see what overall mileage I get, but that's a ways off. TERRY

Good for you for gettin' out there, Eddie! I darn sure wanted to, but was too busy trying to get caught up with Clients now that the Holidays are over to have time to get out of here. "Here" being my office, which is right next door to my house (the upstairs of a stand-alone two-story two-car garage). Maybe I can sneak off tomorrow for awhile... TERRY
