  1. Sweet Darlin' Janis and I send our very best wishes for a full and speedy recovery! TERRY
  2. Now that's what you call AbFab... ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! TERRY
  3. Independent Dealers are like individual restaurants: all the restaurants have food to eat, but sometimes you just don't want to eat what they serve... TERRY
  4. Interestingly, virtually every post here, whether for or against, has indicated that, without fail, the modulator does exactly what it is designed to do: get attention! That works for me. I have one on both bikes and am glad I do. Riding a motorcycle is a moment-to-moment experience, and as such, requires relentless attention to constantly-changing circumstances. A modulator is an attention-getting tool, which should be used properly depending on the situation. If my modulator is on and you are in a cage in the left lane boxing me in with a bunch of other vehicles, I'm only too happy to pull far left so you see it in your driver-side rear-view mirror. More often than not, you will change lanes when it's safe to do so and I can move ahead and reposition myself with space around me, which is the far-safer place for me to be. If I see that I am going to be behind you for awhile, I turn it off, so as not to be irritating or make you nervous. I also turn it off if I'm riding behind another cyclist. Like any tool, used properly, it can help you do a better job. TERRY
  5. Well, my friend, you came dangerously close to finding out the price one pays for throwing out a negative opinion in the world, which, after all, no one wants to hear and can be too easily construed to be insulting. And with a scalpel in his hand... The much safer approach would have been to say: Well, actually, I have two Yamaha motorcycles. Why? Do you ride a Harley? Maybe you got sliced up more than you know... TERRY
  6. You can order it online directly from the company: http://www.ride-on.com/ TERRY
  7. I seem to recall that there was a thread on this subject awhile back, which you might be able to find by doing a "search". My favorite solution to this problem belongs to 86er, who glued magnets on the inside of the plastic cover, so that whenever he wants to use the tank bag (also with magnets) all he has to do is lay it out over the cover and sure enough, it stays in place!. My own solution was to just take off the cover and tuck the extended part of the unit that holds the magnets on either side up and under, then put the cover back on. It stays in place quite well, though after a long day it can loosen up a bit. TERRY
  8. I'm very sorry to hear about your mishap, Bryan, and hope you heal fully and quickly. I hope you'll let me know if there is anything at all I can do to help you out... TERRY
  9. Are you indicating the price just to mount and balance is $442, or is that inclusive of the price of the tires, as well? Please clarify... By the way, what did you pay, including shipping, to get the tires to your front door? TERRY
  10. Thanks for the update, Tom! That nothing is torn is very good news. I hope you recover quickly and fully and are able to ride again soon... TERRY
  11. Well, sure, it also doesn't happen with a 1st Gen, but I didn't think it would be necessary to mention that... TERRY
  12. I was riding the V-Star Saturday, on my way over to meet folks for lunch at Bobby's BBQ (Augusta M&E) and had to stop for the first gas-up of the day. Imagine my horror when I stuck the key in the cap and discovered it was loose-fitting, and worse, would not come off! Eventually, I was able to maneuver the cap off, with a part or two spilling into my hand. To my dismay, I discovered that one of the two screws holding the whole assembly together was missing and the other one was quite loose. Well, not missing, exactly, because it was likely in the bottom of the tank, in a place that I could not possibly get to. I disassembled the cap completely because it was obvious that other parts might be missing or dislodged. Thankfully, I was able to put it all back together and make it operational again. Because the screw was fairly long (well over an inch) and I was in the middle of nowhere, I determined to continue the ride, thinking it highly unlikely that a screw that size could possibly wiggle its' way beyond the tank. An hour or so later I arrived intact at the meeting place, just a couple of minutes ahead of everyone else. After lunch, when we were all just about to head our separate ways home, I told my little tale to Bryan and mentioned that he might want to check his gas cap. Sure enough, a screw was missing on his gas cap, as well! So, this is just a little heads-up: you might want to pull out a phillips head screwdriver, pull off the gas cap, turn it bottom side up, and make sure the two screws are sufficiently tightened. TERRY
  13. I couldn't agree with you more, Snarley Bill! The primary reason I took on the challenge of hosting a monthly M&E was to provide an opportunity for VR.org family and friends to be able to get-together with each other on a regular basis. Sure, the rides are fun and the food is always enjoyable, but it's the people that make it so wonderful and so worthwhile! My sincere Thanks! to each and every one of you that make this such a remarkable place to dwell... TERRY
  14. Here's a link to a downloadable manual for $10 (least expensive I could find): http://tinyurl.com/vstar-1100-manual Here's the Seller's email address, in case you want to inquire about the manual before you make a purchase: kmurph68@gmail.com I have an '04 Silverado that I bought used a few years ago. I did not know about the oil filter change-out problem at the time, but fortunately the previous owner installed aftermarket Vance & Hines tailpipes which go over and under the access, so my problem was solved for me! I would concur that these are very reliable bikes. I thoroughly enjoy the one I have... TERRY
  15. It was a real treat (and surprise!) that you joined us last Saturday and I was very glad to meet you, Ted! I'm delighted you and the Mrs. got hooked-up with our great friends George & Bobbie and rode over for some viddles. Like you said, it was only a 575 mile trip to get some lunch... You are most welcome to come on over anytime you can make it. Our next North GA M&E will take place on the 13th of June, so I'll look forward to seeing you again real soon. Thanks, also, for posting your photos! TERRY
  16. Wow, Fred, I had no idea that you were involved in an accident of this magnitude! I hope you are recovering suitably and wish you all the best going forward. Let me know if I can do anything to help! We'll look forward to seeing pics of your trike... TERRY
  17. I sit here with tears in my eyes, and cannot possibly or even remotely imagine the level of grief and heartbreak that has now overwhelmed this family. I often consider the option of enjoying a ride with my own granddaughter, but always decide against it. Perhaps now I know why... Our thoughts and prayers are with this family, as well as all others who become victims of personal negligence. Terry & Janis
  18. First and foremost (and just in case you somehow missed it) there's the "Joint Venture" of the 3rd Annual Georgia Meet & Eat & Ride & Eat & Ride and the monthly North GA M&E. Here's the thread for that one: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35096 Next on our list is the Yamaha Demo Day at Moto 400. And yes, they will have not one, but two, count 'em, two, V-Max bikes to try out. If you get a chance, and can't make it to the M&E, you should definitely go to Moto 400. Personally, I'd love to try out the V-Max and the Raider. Here's a link: http://www.moto400.com/custompage2.asp?pg=yamdemoday And last, but not at all least, WOW Motorcycles is having their 7th Annual Japanese Motorcycle Days. If you're in the area it's probably worth checking out. http://www.wowmotorcycles.com/ Whatever you do tomorrow, have fun doing it, and be sure to make it a Great Day on Sunday for all of our wonderful Mothers... TERRY
  19. Mileage varies widely, depending on air pressure, road types, and riding style. I also average about 12000 miles per rear tire, so some, if not all, of the three items mentioned above are very different for you than for me! Your per-mile tire expense beats mine significantly... TERRY
  20. For those of you that live in and around this area there are two events you might be interested in. MOTO 400 is sponsoring Triumph Days, both at the store in Dawsonville, and at T.W.O. in Suches, where you can test-ride any of the new Triumphs: http://www.moto400.com/custompage.asp?pg=upcoming5 Additionally, there's a grand get-together of BMW Riders in Hiawasse. The event is actually free and open to the public during the daytime, with a camping fee should you decide to stay over: http://www.bmwmoga.info/2009gmr/ There's a good chance I'll see you at one, if not both, events, but I'll probably be on the V-Star, so you might not recognize me... If you make it to either event, give me a call on my cell at 678-480-8569, and we'll see if there's a way to hook-up. TERRY
  21. Did Yamaha ever put a V-4 emblem on any of the bikes that have one? TERRY
  22. I'm interested, Monty, and will check it out in detail, just as soon as possible. Thanks for finding it and getting it set up. I might suggest that you pick a day and time for a get-together and see who shows up, then consider doing it again at some consistent interval. Sometimes it takes a while for folks to warm up to something new... TERRY
  23. This is a pretty big can of worms... If you go ahead and trike the bike you have you will likely have put much more into it than you could possibly get back, so there's the likelihood of a significant economic loss, somewhere down the line. That loss would be especially hard to swallow if you found that you did not like the ride of a trike, after all! Personally, if I were still physically able, and wanted to continue to ride on two wheels, but I wanted the long-distance and two-up advantages of a trike, I would seriously consider the MTC Voyager conversion kit: http://www.mtcvoyager.com/ I've seen this unit on a couple of different bikes and it's quite impressive. It's way less expensive, and does not compromise, in any way, your bike or its' value. It also allows you to ride on two wheels whenever you want in a matter of minutes. Plus, the kit, should you not like the "trike" ride would still be sellable, minimizing your potential for economic loss. I hope that whatever you decide to do works out well for you... TERRY
  24. I will chime in with royalstarjac on this one. Awhile back at the Annual GA M&E Sleeperhawk and the Mechanic had a time of it with this same problem. At first they thought it was bad gas, but emptying the tank and new gas did not solve the problem. We were out riding in the middle of nowhere (after a fine lunch at Col. Poole's BBQ in Ellijay) and it happened again. A run was made to a local quick-store for some WD-40, and that did solve the problem (temporarily, anyway!). It was, after all, the ignition switch! TERRY
  25. Sweeeeeeet...... That's one fine-looking trike! TERRY
