  1. Yep, if not passed yet here in California, its coming up. Like the law about cell phones not applying till July. Seems ashame to have to pass laws about something that should be just plain old common sense.

    Car Tire ??

Heck, when I posted that I liked the Metzler tire better than a Avon tire...whew! When I mentioned that I had a car tire on my Harley, oh my gawd! If anybody does get a car tire that will fit on my Venture, I'm mounting it! I never had a problem with the one I had before, and I rode the heck out of it! Hang in there, buddy! Opps, did I mention I hate being forced to wear a helmit?
  3. Metzlers, I tried the Avons but didn't get the mileage I do with the Metzlers. If you are touring you will want a tire you can put some miles on. Oh yea, stick with the stock size if you spend more time on the road than in the parking lot.
  4. A buddy of mine is a Harley mechanic, die hard Harley man. When he isn't working For Harley, he's working on the older bikes in his shop. He has told me he actually thinks that the S&S motors are a better engine. The oil pump is better. He wants to do some mods on another buds Indian, a scout. That Indian Scout has been on a lota rides with me, and nary a problem. They are all good looking scoots, and seem to be very reliable. I beleive they came out with their own motor just before the Co. failed, but I have not heard anything about that motor.
  5. Yeah, but, she's topless!!! I like it. it gets my vote.
  6. I want one with a naked girl on the back!
  7. Not really, After the rain, just take the skin off and give it a good shake. The water will shake right off and you have a dry skin to sit on again.
  8. WOW, the most I ever got out of a rear Avon was a little less than 8000 miles!
  9. There have been clutch problems, also, check with those that have experienced this. I hadn't heard of any clutch problems. Is it for a partitular year?
  10. I'm all for it. We have one for the Triumphs and it works out great!
  11. Ouch! Thanks for that information! Makes a heck of a differance. I've had my XM for a year now and could not find any button on it that said volume on it. The volume on my XM was only set at the half way mark. I am now a happy boy!
  12. I have a XM radio that I plugged into the AUX plug next to the cassette player, but I don't get the volume I get when I use the cassette adapter. As a matter of fact, when I use the AUX, I have to turn the volume up as high as it will go. With the cassette adapter, I can set the volume to 14 and hear it at freeway speeds with a cross wind! Anyone else experiance this?
  13. Great post. There are lubricants that are made for electric switches that are plastic safe, and made for applications such as this. WD-40 is not a good lubricant and will not last for long. CRC makes a good product, so does Chemtronics, a bit more expensive. Just make sure its plastic safe.

  15. Wow! A mercy posting...
  16. very nice
  17. Brad, I'm so sorry to see this happen to you guys. That bike carried you so many miles, sad to see it end like this. Get another one and lets begin another adventure! Love you guys, Leonard and Robin
  18. What Jeff said. I always get better gas milage in the winter. I really don't remember if it goes back down as winter goes by, but I'm always surprized by the improvement when the weather cools down. I'm in a location where I can and do ride all year. Leonard
  19. Wear bars are placed on the tires as a referance point. When the wear is to the bar, its time to look for a new tire. I've gone way past the wear bars, to the different colored treads in the cord on a long trip because of the lack of a properly sized and rated tire. Use common sense with your tires as with anything in life and you will prevail! With a worn or damaged tire, slow down and just take it easy and you will make it home. Some times it's good to take the long way home... Leonard
  20. Opps! I just noticed the title of this post. I use the Hiflofiltro HF303 oil filter. I had a mechanic tell me years ago to stick with filters designed for your bike because they provide a certain amount of backpressure to properly lube the motor. I don't know if that still applys to the modern bikes of today. I suppose I loose the savings of Rotella on this filter, seems the last time I purchased it the cost was 11.00. Leonard
  21. I've used the syn Shell Rotella and it seemed ok. Then I tried the dino Shell Rotella and didn't notice a differance. I now use the dino Rotella. I seem to change the oil every 4000 miles, dosen't matter if its syn or dino. Doing this makes me feel better about myself. Leonard
  22. I have read on this forum of folks running tire pressures recommended in the book that came with the bike. Those recommendations are for the OEM tires. Do not run those pressures on Metzler tires. This is wrong and dangerous. This is quoted from the Metzler website: RECOMMENDED MINIMUM TIRE PRESSURES (P.S.I.) Touring/Cruiser ME880 Marathon Solo 2 Up Light 2 Up Heavy Front 38-40 40-42 40-42 Rear 44-46 46-48 48-50 The rear tire is rated at 992 lbs, which is better than the stock tires that come with the bike.
  23. You should've heard the rants and complaints from the folks in Bakersfield when the cameras first went up. The courts decided to toss the first few months of tickets because there was no notification to the public they were going to be placed!!! Then, there were the arguments that the yellow lights were not displayed long enough!!! Come on people! You were caught running a red light! Its really a sad statement when extraordenary steps have to be taken to enforce common sense on our roadways. Leonard
  24. "Buy a good gauge and check it every year. And if it is an electronic one replace the batteries every year. Then when you check your tire pressure always check it two or three times and take the average." I've used a pencil gauge for years now. I have one on both bikes and cars and they all measure the same when I compare them at the maintained pressure on my vehicles. I have compared the readings they give me with the air shock hand pump, which reads up to 60 lbs, and they read the same at 49 lbs which is what I keep my rear Metzler at. Leonard
  25. I say, lets hang him by the closest tree! Then we can give our horses beer while we drink whiskey! Yea!!! Leonard
