  1. I carry a spare one NOW! We went to Va Beach about a month ago and I was unlocking the trunk. I hit the key with the palm of my hand to open the trunk and it bent the key. It took about 45 minutes to 'carefully' straighten the key back out enough to use. Even at that point I was stressin it would break off in the ignition or gas cap. It was a sick feelin lookin at that bent key and wonderin what it would cost for a locksmith on a Sunday. :mo money:
  2. I AGREE with you 1,000,000 %.
  3. You are GOOD George. You are absolutely right. I do have the sealed battery and the battery sensor light mod is tapped into the acc fuse. I was a bit confused when the battery warning light was on and it involved the acc fuse. As you can see I am NOT an electrician... shocking, huh? Semper Fi, Jerry
  4. Now now GW... the 1st gen is unique but to me there aint NO touring ride like the 2d gen. I can turn that bike in a tight spot, it's very responsive and it's so damn comfortable. With that being said I haven't ridden the 1st gen in it's best of riding shape (even tho it is fun) and I am NOT use to it being so top heavy but we'll see what time says. For now #2 gen is DEFINITELY #1. Either way I have the best of BOTH worlds.... Thanks for all the responses! Semper Fi, Jerry
  5. I bought me an 86 VR (38,200miles) a few weeks ago on ebay. We took the truck up to Weastern PA to get the bike. I rode the bike back to NC and it was a somewhat uncomfortable ride (compared to the 08 RSV) but as is any ride I enjoyed it. Now that I've had time to explore the bike I have some questions/ issues I need some assistance with. 1. I noticed both tires (Continental on the front Dunlop on the rear) are scalloped which was causing a bouncy feel to the front end. I am going to replace the tires but what causes the scalloped condition? 2. The starter has a lot of hesitation when it starts especially when it's hot. It will turn, pause, turn, pause, turn, then start. Someone at work had mentioned the brushes may be worn. Any other ideas? The owner replaced the stock battery with an 'Odyssey' battery about a year ago. 3. When adjusting the air in the rear shock it doesn't maintain the pressure. The ride back from PA was a bit annoying due to the squeaking and vibration of the console, the front end 'bounce', and monkey butt! I replaced the rubber grommets and the squeaky noise and vibration is gone. For the most part the bike runs well. It will definitely move when you roll on the throttle. In fact in 1st and 2d gear it feels like the front end leaves the ground. I've been reading the forums but there is so much to read. If anyone can point me to specific threads that cover some of the things I've listed or other items of interest it would be greatly appreciated. I've always thought the 1st Gen was a 'FUGLY' bike but the more I see them up close the better they look. I had to have one to play with. The more I tinker with the bike the more I enjoy it. I also enjoy reading the info here. Anywho, thanks and ride safe! Semper Fi, Jerry
  6. Ijust purchased an 86 VR and my battery light came on. It was due to a blown fuse.
  7. Just curious if anyone in Eastern NC will be attending the Gathering Of The Guard in Danville, Va 29-31 August? Semper Fi, Jerry
  8. Craig, I'm headin up to Allison Park... I've heard that it's two different animals. I hope so. I already have an 08 RSV. I will definitely be ready for changes. Semper Fi, Jerry
  9. I have always thought the Venture Royales were fugly bikes. But as time changes so do likes and dislikes.... I purchased one off ebay. I've leaving tomorrow night heading for PA to pick it up. We'll stop in VA to spend the night with family and then finish the trip Friday morning. Hopefully all transactions will be finished by 1 pm and then head back to VA. Caging it up and mama will follow me back in the truck. Hopefully everything will go well. I want to see if this 1st Gen is everything those who ride them say it is. I shall find out!!!! I'm purty excited and just wanted to share it with my family here.... JUST RIDE! Semper Fi, Jerry
  10. I like the 'Geezer Glides' myself but if I had to pick any other bike it would be the Cross Bones. That's what my wife wants for her 50th birthday......
  11. I need the help of all you ebayers out there or anyone who has purchased a bike out of state. I purchased a bike(1st Gen) out of state and I'm going to pick it up this weekend. As of right now my plan is to ride 2 up with the wife and then I'll ride the new bike back. I need to know what all (paperwork) I'll have to have to be able to ride the new back back from PA to NC. I know I have to have it on my insurance but what about tags? Can I purchase a temp tag from NC even tho I don't have the title yet? These are the type of things I need your help on. If anyone could please share their knowledge and/or experience it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Semper Fi, Jerry OH, this will be my first ride on a 1st Gen ... I'm used to the 2d Gen... any points or words of wisdom there would be helpful too! Thanks!!!!
  12. I have to trailer a 1st gen next weekend and I need to know the front tire width to ensure I have the correct size wheel chock. Semper Fi, Jerry
  13. I'm with you Principal. My wife and I went last year (4th of July week). I went off the road on the FIRST curve. Fixated on the white line and the bike went exactly where I was looking. I was on an 07 Nomad 1600 and wife was ridin an 06 Suzuki Blvd (she did well). Had to replace both crash bars in the front, both saddle bag crash bars and scuffed up the saddle bags. No damage to me cept for the 'pride'. Some bikers behind us stopped and helped me get it back on the road and off we went to complete the Dragon. I would do it again but am in no HURRY! Wife says I was 'bitten' but not 'beaten'. We've ridden the Parkway hundreds of times in Va but it doesn't compare to the Deals Gap area. Be safe. Semper Fi, Jerry
  14. I agree with Wayne and AZ1103. To do that you would have to have two seperate systems. 1.CB/Radio/Cassette 2. Zumo (which would have to have it's own speakers so you could hear the prompts when keying the mic.) The Zumo prompts are fairly far enough out to pass on the info prior to turns, exits etc. Besides, the lower right hand corner of the Zumo... "Turn In" (in the map mode) tells you how far you have to go before your next turn. Press that button and it also gives you voice instructions of how far you have to go before you turn. Press the button again and it gives you visual turn by turn instructions. Every time you press the window it gives you each subsequent turn. In other words you have plenty of leeway to let anyone else know whats coming up. Ride Safe, Semper Fi, Jerry
