You have high resistance in the circuit. Since you seem ok with a volt meter try this. With the circuit live, lights on and all connectors plugged in trace the circuit voltage with the volt meter. You will need a pin or needle to use as a back probe so raid the wife's sewing kit. Connect the negative lead of the meter to a good ground. Use the pin to back probe the connector supplying power to the passing light circuit. If it has battery power work your way to the passing lights connector by connector. When the power suddenly drops you have found your problem... If there was no power at the first connector then work your way back to the battery connector by connector until you get power. Again you have just located your problem... If you had good power all the way to the passing lights continue the test through the ground circuit connections. Again a big change in the voltage at any connection isolates the problem. Good Luck Mike -

So how would the cruise control maintain your speed if it doesn't know how fast you are going? Just get a throttle lock. Mike -
Tach;;; Just push the rpm until you hit the rev limiter in first and second gear. Note the mph. Then the speedometer can be your tach. Approx 40+ in first and 65+ mph in second. I can't think of anyplace in the US where it would be legal to hit the limiter in third or fourth. Keep the revs up and you and the bike will both be happier. Those who say 'ride it like you stole it' are right. That said I did mount a cheap tach on mine. It is to slow for shifting. But it was an easy install requiring only one wire. Mike

As a side note. If one cell is drained more than the others it is a bad cell indicating the need for a new battery.

The 44-40.... 45 long colt.... 357 magnum..... 44 magnum.... 38 special... and many others are cartridges that are (were) often chambered in both rifles and hand guns. This type of combination was popular in the west because it simplified carrying ammunition. Cowboy action shooting has created a resurgence of many popular old chambering. Mike

The bike is still under waranty. What you might need is to find another Yamaha certified mechanic. (Good luck with that.) If there is a fork problem beyond adjustment it should be covered. Dito on the oil leak. Mike

Your engine system has a knock sensor in it. You can run regular fuel but performance may suffer a little. The check engine light may reset itself after three to nine drive cycles if the problem was only momentary. Or it may not reset indicating a continuing problem. Get it scanned. Get the codes and decide from there what action to take. O2 sensors have a life cycle as do gas caps. Throttle position sensors can wear out. And other things can just fail. Don't guess. Get the codes. Then decide. Mike

I have bent mine a couple of times. So far I have been able to put my foot on them while seated on the bike and push them back into position. Highway pegs make this even easier. Go ahead, ask me how I know, go ahead ask. Mike

Skydoc_17 I agree the dip in torque is probably from lugging. The readings are for me of very limited value. A good comparison or baseline to see if things are alright or not. That is about it. Bike dynos such as this one are not showing the actual torque delivered to the wheels. They use a computer program that converts the real torque and hp readings to a guesstimate of what the engine is doing. Hence the similarity of readings for all of the transmission gears. They also factor in some power losses that I don't always agree with. And different dyno manufacturers may use different programs. For those who may not believe this, you don't actually think 74 foot pounds of torque is going to get a thousand pounds of bike and rider moving in any kind of a hurry do you? That is what gear ratios are for, multiplying torque. So I would rather have seen what was actually hitting the ground. Beyond that I can do the math. Also I think converting my differential to the v-max after this test probably alleviated most of the lugging. One of these days I will have it run on the dyno again just to find out. Mike

First thing you need to check is your fuel filter then fuel pressure. These won't show up on a scanner or with fault codes but they will cause you to lean out and stumble. Next thing is make sure your exhaust is flowing freely. Then go for the scanner and trouble codes. Mike Oops sorry I missed the part where you measured the fuel pressure. If the car is going lean it should set an o2 sensor lean code. Temp sensor should read about .6 to .9 volts on a warmed up (operating temp) engine with a DVOM connected in parallel with the sensor. Should read about 3.5 volts on a 60 degree engine. I don't have a wiring schematic for yours but some cars use a separate temp sending unit for the cooling fan. Also if it is activated by the PCM then there is a relay in the circuit. Map sensor and air flow meter are major players for fuel mixture. Test your air flow meter by unplugging it. If it is the problem the car will set a code but run good. Mike

I don't think I will rush to judgment on this one. Uprooting your family for a chance at a distant job can be very traumatic. In these times selling your home, tough at any time, may not be so easy. Then to move out of state hundreds or even thousands of miles for a promised job that may or may not be guaranteed and indeed may not even be there in a couple of months is quite a gamble. Is the company going to help pay for the move or is he just expected to show up? And illness makes it even more difficult. It is a much easier decision to make when you are not the one who has to live with the consequences however they come down. I just hope it all works out for your stepson. Mike

If you are going to buy a kid an expensive gift it might be a good idea to find out what interests him first. It is not fair to the child to purchase something and then complain because he has no interest in it. One trip to the local go cart track might have been enough for you to gage his interest. Oh and don't be surprised when his interests change over time either. Mike

Great story. Sometimes in all the hubbub and commotion of life we forget the young people today are just as smart, just as patriotic, just as brave, and just as caring as young people ever were. It's just sometimes hard for one generation to admit it about the next. Or maybe it's sometimes hard for us to see it. Stories like this are a welcome reminder. Mike

At 16,000 I switched to Amsoil. By 18,000 the transmission was screaming. So I changed back to Yamalube. Now at 20,000 most of the screaming has abated. So my suggestion is find what works and stick with it. Mike

To prevent this type of corrosion use dielectric grease on the connections. The oil coated plug indicates either it was not firing, has a faulty injector, or a more serious cylinder problem. I would run with not firing first. Mike
