  1. Possible starter OR a poor electrical connection. Mike
  2. This is one of my pet peeves. When flashing lights are on and you slow down the media calls it rubbernecking. And if you don't slow down and speed right through they call you a nut case reckless driver. They want to know if you are blind and couldn't see all the flashing lights. It is the media that are nut cases and promote poor driving habits. For me when I see flashing lights on either side of the road it is slow down time. Those lights are warning me anything could happen from someone running across the road to vehicles making u-turns. So I slow down and if it is safe to do so I change to a safer lane. But most importantly I try to keep my eyes open and look around. If the media wants to call that rubbernecking so be it. Mike

  5. Well if you decide you don't want this old fashioned, obsolete junk lying around and are trying to get rid of it. I could probably find a place for it in my tool box. Mike
  6. Very handy for checking cylinder heads and blocks for straightness. Lay it on the surface and see if a feeler gauge will slide under it thereby measuring the amount of warpage. Mike
  7. Looking at Yamaha's part index for the Venture since 2000 I get listings for three stators. 4XY-81410-00-00 , 4XY-81410-01-00 and 4XY-81410-02-00 with the 02 being the latest. It superceeds the other Yamaha part numbers. I cannot tell if there is any difference in their specification though. Mike
  8. Ok I have always wondered if I made the best choice when I bought my Venture. My Harley friends are pretty adamant on the superiority of the Harley experience. So I have always had this nagging question. Would I have been happier with a Harly Ultra Glide Classic or some such thing? Do the Harleys really handle much better at parking lot speeds? For sure more accessories are available for Harleys. And the Harley is fuel injected. Well yesterday I spent some time riding an Ultra Classic and all I can say is WOW. There is no way I would trade my Venture for a Harley. I like the handling on my Venture better than the Harley at any speed. So the question for me has been asked and answered. The Venture was and still is my best choice. Mike
  9. Electric dehumidifiers and lights are common in safes. I was just saying be careful during the install. Some safes already have predrilled holes for this purpose. Check yours. Here is an install kit http://www.deansafe.com/losalikit.html Here are dehumidifiers http://www.cannonsafe.com/options-accessories.html Mike
  10. A last thought. If you have something that catches on fire inside the safe you could have issues when you open the door. You know, papers falling against a light bulb etc. Mike
  11. Many large safes have holes in the bottom so they can be bolted to the floor. This might be an access point for you to run a wire. If you do run wire wrap it with some insulation. You can get some at your local auto parts store for choke tubes etc. You might also pass the wire through a piece of wall board at the opening. This will further dissipate heat and protect the opening. Also if you attach an electrical device inside the safe make sure the safe is grounded. I just put an outlet in mine so I can plug in whatever device suites me at the moment. Yes I drilled a small hole near the bottom back for the wire and used insulation and a piece of wallboard. Fire resistance is mostly a function of the insulation inside the safe. Mike
  12. I mounted leds under my fuel tank and along the back fender, under the saddle bag mount rail, and in the trunk. The 5 led strips cost me $7.50 each from harbor freight. I attached then along the bottom of the tank behind the lip with some industrial two sided tape. I also used some two pin electrical plugs in the wiring so I could disconnect them when removing the tank. I installed a on-off switch just behind the riders seat. Hope this helps. Mike
  13. Does the ear doctor know about the pain in the neck or the neck doctor about the ear? Just saying, could be related. Mike
  14. It is the Honda cars that is going to take over the motorcycle facility. The same guy owns Downtown HD, Renton Motorcycles, and Renton Honda cars. He also owns the large property where Renton Motorcycle and Downtown HD have separate buildings. In an effort to save money on rent for his Honda car dealership he closed Renton Motorcycle and will move the car dealership into that facility. Renton Motorcycle was a very large motorcycle superstore. They carried a broad range of Honda, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Suzuki and who knows what all else motorcycles, ATVs, jet skys and snow mobiles. A real candy store. At one time the building was a Home Depot or some such home center. So you can imagine how many toys it took to fill the facility. It was a nice place to wander around from time to time. It is where I bought my Venture and I was always treated fairly there. They had a restaurant and pub, Mick Kelly's, inside overlooking the massive showroom. It had balcony dining and meeting rooms etc. They say they are going to remain open. But that is anybodies guess. Downtown Harley Davidson which is in a separate building say they will be unaffected. That also remains to be seen. Whatever the logic Renton Motorcycle is no more. And we have lost another Yamaha dealer. Mike
  15. I am interested. But it depends on how things shake out. Mike

Radford/Renton Reporter Buy Photo Reprints Renton Motorcycle Co. on East Valley Road closes; Renton Honda to relocate there By DEAN RADFORD Renton Reporter Editor November 29, 2011 · Updated 5:06 PM inShare1 1comment Email Story Print Story Email Author Letter/Editor Renton Motorcycle Co. closed for business Tuesday to make way for the eventual relocation of Renton Honda, now on Grady Way, to its site on East Valley Road. Employees of Renton Motorcycle were told of the closure Tuesday morning at a regular staff meeting; later, one of them expressed shock at the closure. The Renton Motorcycle Co. and Renton Honda are owned by Bob Lanphere. He also owns Downtown Harley Davidson next door to Renton Motorcycles, which remains in business, said Terry Stallcop, general manager of both businesses. Also remaining open is Mick Kelly's restaurant at the Full Throttle Bar and Grill, which overlooks the Renton Motorcycles showroom. "We have built a customer base that's not dependent on the motorcycle customer base," said owner Lorraine Tores, so her lunch business won't be affected. She also draws customers from the Harley Davidson dealership next door. The economy played a role in the closure of Renton Motorcycles, Stallcop said. However, an earlier plan would have had Renton Motorcycles and Renton Honda share the large building, he said, a plan that failed to get the OK of the Honda corporation. He said it didn't make sense to move Renton Motorcycles elsewhere. Renton Honda won't move for 18 months to 24 months, Stallcop said, during which it will seek permits from the City of Renton to remodel the Renton Motorcycle space. Renton Honda is one of the anchors of the AutoMall the city created on Grady Way. Renton Honda dealership underwent a $9 million expansion and renovation about four years ago. Stallcop said the location on East Valley Road will provide better street access for customers. Renton Honda now is at the busy intersection with Rainier Avenue. Lanphere also leases the four separate parcels on which his Honda dealership is located. Now, he can consolidate on land he owns, Stallcop said. That stretch of East Valley Road is also becoming a busy retail area and there are two other auto dealerships in the area, he said. Younker Nissan and Younker Mitsubishi are nearby. The decision to close Renton Motorcycles was made last week, with managers told Saturday, Stallcop said. The business employs 28; about 10 of them will remain at the store through December to help with closing down the business. Stallcop said the hope is to find positions for the employees elsewhere within the company. Customers can pick up special-order parts, cancel pre-paid maintenance contracts, cash in Renton Motorcycle gift cards and pick up bikes that are in for service, he said. "We will make everyone whole," he said. Customers can reach the company at rmcreception@rentonmotorcycles.com or at 425-226-4320. One longtime customer, Scott Lee of Rainier Beach, stopped by Tuesday morning to retrieve a Kawasaki motorcycle he had on consignment at Renton Motorcycles. He's also a customer of Downtown Harley Davidson. "It's a sad situation," he said. His wife Gini agreed. "They've been very good to us," she said. 19. I like Canon as well. My everyday carry around is a G9 which does a pretty outstanding job on it's own. My thought is no matter how good the picture op is you can't do anything unless you have a camera with you. The G9 is easy to pack along. That said any Canon DSLR will take some great pictures. It just depends on the features you want and the lens you can afford. I am currently shopping for a 7D. Mostly because of the speed and movie taking ability. Just remember no matter what you buy or how much you spend you can always upgrade. That is what keeps the camera companies in business. Mike
  20. I have a small 100 acre ranch for sale outside of Gatesville. It has nice houses garages carports and a large metal workshop. It also has several wells, a stock pond and a swimming hole. Perhaps a little out of your area but not far. If you are interested pm me and I will send you some contact information.

  23. Glad to hear your outcome is similar to mine. I looked at quite a few things before making this kind of modification to my bike. Now I am glad I did. The gears are RSV 10/33 and VMAX 9/33. That means a 10% increase in torque in all gears. It also means the engine will be operating at 10% higher rpm for any given speed, so it will be developing even more torque. The performance increase is very noticeable when riding. HD v-twins get their maximum torque around 3200 rpm. Our v-4s get theirs around 4600 rpm. So when a v-twin is happy at 2800 rpm it takes about 3800 for our v-4 to get that same warm and fuzzy feeling. I am now cruising at around 3600 at 70 mph, 4100 at 80 and 5200 at 100 mph. 6200 rpm would still net me 120 mph. Which is faster than I care to ride. And with the torque increase I might actually be able to achieve that speed. Even though I haven't tried...yet. Since both gear sets use a 33 tooth ring gear the speed sensor is not adversely affected. Buying the deferential already assembled greatly simplifies installation. And Freebirds instructions in the tech section are pretty straight foreword. The problem with trying to confirm all of this on a bike dyno is finding one that actually gives the readings at the rear wheels. Most are computerized and use a formula to deduce engine output. That means they will give you similar readings even though the bike may be run in different gears. There is good and bad to that. But I prefer to know what is hitting the ground. I can backward calculate the engine power by gear ratio myself. For those unaware of this - you don't think 78 (or less) foot pounds of torque is going to send one of these monsters screaming from a stop do you? The gear ratio, transmission and rear end combined, increases torque on the ground by several hundred percent. So for now I will just have to use my pillow seat torque meter. In other words it just feels good. Mike
  24. Enjoy
