I got a PM from zsilverfish wanting to put armrests on an 08 Venture. When I tried to respond and tell him I got mine from Larry Skeels at Venture Rider I discovered his membership has lapsed. I just wondered how he was able to contact me. Any ideas? Mike

Yes. What they said. It also keeps the tank from blowing up. So I would put it back on if I were you. Mike

Make sure the vacuum hoses are connected to the AIS valves. Years ago in automotive we used to call these "anti backfire valves" and for good reason. Mike

Ok I am confused. I thought the front turn signal bulb was a BAZ15d3 not an 1157. I didn't even think an 1157 would fit. Also blinking faster is due to a lower current flow . As happens when switching to leds due to the bypass type flasher unit. My brain is on overload so I think I will just take another dumb pill and go back to bed. Mike

Finding/defining/debating the difference between Torque and Horsepower..
MikeWa replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
Torque is a measure of the amount of force applied. Horsepower is the rate at which work is done. -
Turn your intercom down. You may be picking up noise. Mike

We are very sorry to learn of Buddy's loss. These little guys always give all of their love and ask little in return. Our prayers and condolences go out to you. Mike

While it may not be the best, I use contact cement or weather strip adhesive. When I want to remove it I just heat it with a hair dryer or heat gun to release the cement. Mike

LED Turn Signals/Driving Lights
MikeWa replied to leo3wheel's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
My bike is a second gen. You can find pictures of the flasher mod here. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?128789-LED-Turn-Signals-Driving-Lights/page2&highlight=signal+flasher Mike -
LED directional signal upgrade questions
MikeWa replied to Midnight's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I do not like the load resistors. A simple mod to the signal flasher will correct the flashing speed. In my opinion that is a much better way to go. If you check my second post on this thread you will find pictures. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?128789-LED-Turn-Signals-Driving-Lights/page2&highlight=signal+flasher Mike -
Yamaha tinted adjustable lower replacements
MikeWa replied to WIZ's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
These were aftermarket vents sold through the Yamaha web site. I do not know if they are still available you will have to search for them I suspect. I think the part number for the 'lower wind vents' was STR-1D608-80-00 but my memory is fallible. Good Luck Mike -
What are air cut valves?
MikeWa replied to creole's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The A.I.R. system sends air (oxygen) to the exhaust. This causes any left over fuel in the exhaust to burn. During periods of deceleration extra fuel is wasted into the exhaust. This could cause popping and detonation during deceleration. To prevent this a vacuum controlled valve (vacuum is very high on deceleration) cuts off the flow of air into the exhaust during deceleration. Mike -
I believe in easy stuff first. So check to see if your battery still has power. Also check the other end of the battery cables. If all of the cable connections are good and the battery has power then continue with your more in depth analysis. Mike

Hay Don Way cool ride. But how do you get your foot down at stops? Mike

Silly me. Who would think the Japanese would do TV different? I just returned from a few weeks in Okinawa Japan where I tried to hook up a TV to an antenna. First I purchased the TV at an American military base. Much cheaper. Then I took it into town and tried connecting it to an antenna. It scanned for channels and found none. 0, kaput, nothing. After praising myself repeatedly for my brilliant plan, I tried my sister in laws store bought TV. Works fine. Turns out US televisions use the ATSC standard while the Japanese and Brazil use ISDB-T. In other words a different broadcast standard. So my base purchased TV will not work with an antenna in town or anywhere in Japan for that matter. How cool is that? Upon returning the TV to the base exchange I learned they had never heard of this difference before. But they had sent all of their antennas back because they would not work for over the air broadcasts. They deduced all bad antennas. Base housing uses mostly cable you see. It's good to know someone is on top of all this because I talked to them about my intended use before I purchased and all was good. Finally all of this means do not purchase an over the counter TV in Japan and expect to use it in the US or visa versa unless of course you are on cable. Mike

Hey. I know that rider. I think it's my sister-in-law. Mike

One of the riders on a Patriot Guard mission was riding a new Venture. His is a red in color transcontinental edition. I must say "what a sweet looking ride". I already decided not to like the new Ventures due to not being a four cylinder or water cooled. But I have to admit they sure do look good. They are better in person than in pictures. I didn't sit on it or anything. I just did a thorough walk around. Very impressive. Mike

Craig Sorry to hear this. You have our prayers and best wishes. Mike

Apparently Microsoft is able to work around the workarounds. I know where they store the updates. I can't tell you where I would like for them to store things or I would get kicked off this web site. Mike

Thought a little update might be in order. (Pun Intended) I set the switches to manual, went to a previous version of Windows as suggested and after much frustration I finally got the PC to a useable point. I also connected my modem to a switched outlet so I could turn it off when I am not at my computer. Earlier today I switched the modem off and went for a cup of coffee. When I returned the computer was performing an update. Yes even though the modem was powered down. The customary blue screen, dots going in a circle and the message "Do not turn off your PC." I really hate this. When I finally get an Apple this thing will become fodder for target practice. Mike

GM in-car distraction systems, whether you want it or not.
MikeWa replied to CaseyJ955's topic in Watering Hole
Say isn't GM the company that filed bankruptcy so they wouldn't have to pay back their employees the money they borrowed from them? Yea I would trust them with my life. Mike
