  1. When deer get frightened they will often run in the direction they have the most visibility. That often means onto the road illuminated by your headlights. They do not comprehend vehicle speed. So it is up to us to be careful. Mike
  2. Well when every vehicle goes all electric. I was, am, just wonder where they are planning on getting all this electricity? Mike
  3. Better yet turn the CB off and see how the radio works. If it is ok practice with the CB settings until you get a good combination of controls for you. Mike
  4. Kevin Glad you're ok. Best of luck in your search for a new ride. Mike
  5. Best wishes for you and your wife. Mike
  6. I like it. But to far away for me to go have a look at it. Mike
  7. I see them as Larry said. Front---150/80B 16 71H Rear--- 150/90B 15 M/C 74H As listed in the service manual. Mike
  8. Finally an honest report. Thanks for posting Puc. Mike
  9. After searching through my official Yamaha service manual I have found one picture of the switch. It is on page 4-98 in the transmission section. But I still have no idea how to get to it. Sorry I couldn't help. Mike P.S. I found a second picture on page 4-103. it just says install neutral switch. It appears to be externally mounted with three screws. But I cannot tell for sure.
  10. Cheny Part of the problem is with the manuals. This does not show up on my list of switches in the manual and Yamaha didn't see fit to include an index in the service manual. If I find it I will post back. Mike
  11. Sorry to say but. Yes there is a relationship between volts and amps. Your motorcycle uses a voltage regulator not an amps regulator. This not only controls voltage but as Flyinfool said in so doing controls amperage. Mike
  12. When pushing the pistons back I highly recommend opening the bleeder. It keeps the old dirty fluid from being pushed back into the master cylinder. Which can cause problems later. It also lets you make sure the bleeder is not plugged. Just my opinion. I also do not like working any more but I don't mind telling other people how. Mike
  13. Remember. The bikes charging system is responsible for running all of the bikes electrical accessories and charging the battery at the same time. That takes more amps than just charging the battery. Mike
  14. Well PUC you nailed it again. Yamaha only made this bike with a weird tire size because that is what their sample of riders wanted. How stupid do they think we are? My guess is either they have an engineer on crack or there are royalties involved. I coined the phrase SDE (society of drunken engineers) for a reason. Because sober people would not design stuff like this. Mike
  15. It seems Geico is being dishonest. I would pay a visit to an attorney and have him/her send a short letter to Geico. Mike
  16. Yes with voltage that high it sounds like the VR is cooking the battery.
  17. Let me make sure I understand this. The battery is fully charged but will not deliver the required cranking amps. Does it loose voltage quickly when testing CCA? Or does it continue to show good voltage? What kind of batteries are these? Mike
  18. Congratulations. I hope it turns out to be a fantastic bike for you. I am also looking foreword to some ride reports from you. Mike
  19. There are two of the cheap pumps available. One has larger fuel inlets. It is the wrong one. I know as I purchased one and discovered the problem. The other uses the smaller fuel lines and is the correct pump. I also purchased one of these. And it works just fine. It has been on my bike for well over a year and is still ticking. Yes it does sound different than the original pump. These are a diaphragm pump with a shaft that rises to activate the spring loaded point set. Pretty simple and straight forward. I just do not see any way to install a check valve on a diaphragm pump that uses simple valves as these pumps do. Especially since the tank is above the pump. A one way or check valve would be possible if the carbs were above the tank. Also it is known that the bike can be run by gravity feed when the pump is broken if the tank is full enough. So I don't think any of them have a check valve. Just be sure to turn off your fuel valve when the bike is not in use. My guess is a hydro locked engine is more apt to be caused by a stuck inlet valve in a carburetor. I also replaced the points in my original pump. It was not to hard of a job. It is now my spare. Could I be wrong. Of course. I just don't think so. Mike
  20. A quote from the article. "Well, Yamaha says these two approaches have left many riders confused and unable to choose between them." Personally I think they left Yamaha confused. Mike
  21. I got to take a little longer test ride today. My speedo now agrees with my speedometer almost exactly. Tested at 25mph 30mph and 60mph. My speedometer and TomTom GPS now seem to agree almost exactly. As minor as it may seem it is a relief having an accurate speedometer. Mike PS The SpeedoDRD is coated with a rubber/plastic coating that should protect it from the elements.
  22. I installed my SpeedoDRD model Y1-M this afternoon. It was very easy to install. I corrected for a 9.1% error. Since I was only able to take a short trip around the block where it seems fine I will post back after an extended ride. Access to my bike's connector was easy under the left side cover. Mike
