  1. Break it down, put a patch on the inside , remount, and ride it like you stole it!!!!
  2. Check your coils, one or more may have a cracked housing. I had the same problem with a 99 Max. Replaced 2 cracked coils, problem solved.
  3. Ok, I'll be the first to admit it...., I failed! Going back to bed now.
  4. Ron, I'm not to familiar with the 1st Gens but they are not that much different from the 2Gens in design. The carbs on these bikes don't "spray" fuel. A vacuum is created in the carb venturi with the downward stroke of the intake and that in turn sucks fuel up out of the float bowls through various jets. Unlike certain "pumper" type carbs that spray down into the cylinders. If you think you may not be getting gas to the cylinders, pull out a couple of spark plugs and check for signs of wet fouling. If they are, then you definitly are getting some gas to the cylinders. If not, open the drain screws on the bottom of the carbs and see if some of the gas will drain out. If it does and isn't getting to the cylinders then you have probably got a problem with pilot jets being stopped up. This is all said in the assumption that you have good fresh gas, it won't run at idle at all, it may run some with the throttle open, and all else (meaning electrical, compression, clean air filter, and timing ) is in good working order. Remember one simple thing, It takes 4 things for a gas engine to run: Gas, Compression, Ignition, and Timing! Keep us posted and maybe some of the others that are more versed in these bikes will chime in shortly.
  5. Not a 50 cal for sure!
  6. I think you may have a pack rat.
  7. Joe, Hope all ends well. I had a similar thing happen years ago when I went to blow out some chips away before putting in a grease fitting in a wheel hub. Had to go to the ER to have a piece of metal about 1/4 inch long removed from my iris. Could very easily lost that eye. I get onto my co-worker almost every day about the safety glasses. One day it'll catch him. I just hope he doesn't have to lose an eye to be convinced.
  8. Welcome to the nuthouse! Kick y'er shoes off and sit a spell. Y'er gonna love it here.
  9. At least we get there. 1st gens are usually broke down somewhere!
  10. Tell her to turn off the heater and wait a few minutes. It probably has a timer on the gas solenoid that will have to reset. After a few you may hear a click. Then you can restart normally. Hope this helps. Not familiar with this particular model but should be the same.
  11. Merry Christmas everyone! Hope you all have Joyous and Prosperous new year!
  12. $3.28 in Mc Rae, Ga. today.
  13. Get well soon Tom. Best wishes.
  14. Seafoam?????
  15. Me too!
  16. Also, check to make sure your CB is actually connected to the CB antenna. A lot of these bikes come from the dealer with the antennas on the wrong side. The CB should be on the left (sitting on the bike)and connected to the Cb " blackbox" which is located under the trunk. Just to make sure, trace the cable from the antenna to the CB.
  17. First let me say welcome to the nuthouse. You can check out anytime but you can never leave. Go ahead and spring for the membership, you won't regret it. As to the answer to your question, the regulator doesn't put out any kind of power itself, it just regulates how much is fed to your battery and system from the stator. If your battery is staying charged, then your charging system is doing what it should. If you've added a lot of power consuming accessories, then you may be taxing the power output of the stator. If this is the case then you'll either have to eliminate something or go with a higher output stator. Some of the more talented folks on here may can help if you just hang around awhile. Again, Welcome to the site!!!
  18. Probably wouldn't hurt to check the fuel filter in the gas tank and the fuel lines themselves. After so long the lines will start to deteriate and it'll start sucking air. Also primer bulb if it has one may have a pinhole. Don't ask me how I know this. I think chainsaws and string trimmers were invented just to aggravate the h--l out of the owner!
  19. So that's how the 1st Gen appear to be so fast. Man, they're fast even sitting still. I knew the 2nd Gen's speedometer was 5-7% fast but this is rediculous!

I've been running Mint 12 for a couple of years now and I'm never going back to Winders! I figure when something works, you stick with it.
  21. Just so you all will know, there's an adjuster on the shifter linkage for raising and lowering the height of the shifter if you need more room to get those #13 boats in there.
  22. Bought some items from Ebay seller "dewsweeper64" . Just wondering if it was someone here. Items came from Bloomington, Indiana.
  23. The only "problem"(which really isn't a problem) I've had with this setup is, you still can't get an box end wrench or a socket in there. I use an open end wrench to snug the nuts down. Haven't tried a crow foot wrench yet. It might just be the ticket. So far, the open end wrench has worked well without coming loose in the last 3 years.
  24. Or you can do as I did by replacing the bolts with studs and nuts. This way you can hang everything onto the studs and then put on the nuts without having to hold everything in place to start a bolt that has to be started at an odd angle. I've been using this setup for about 3 years now and to me it works great.
  25. Joe, it's just a suggestion, but you could buy a carbide drill and drill out the ease out. I've had to do this many times at work. Just take it slow and steady 'cause the carbide drill will break easily. Heck, I've even used a masonry bit to do this after resharpening it so it will cut steel.
