  1. Paypal sent. Hope better times are ahead for you and your daughter Mike.
  2. The bike looks great Andy. I have the same year/color. After buying it I thought I would have it painted. My paint is in great shape but I thought I might update the color a bit. But I have to admit; the more I look at my bike and the more I see other blondes on here, I can't imagine changing. I've kind of grown partial to it. Congrats on one year. I just bought mine two months ago and can't wait until spring!
  3. I resoldered the pin connectors on the circuit board and I am now able to switch between manual/auto, front/rear, and compressor comes on with air blowing from both front and rear valve ports All I need now to complete the system is hose assy 4 from the connector to the valve. See picture. This is the point where the manual valve was put in the line and I am missing the piece that connects to the valve on the compressor. I call it a banjo fitting. Not sure if that's the correct term or not. If anyone has this piece for sale please let me know. Thanks for the helpful advice and the great offers of assistance. It's definitely appreciated. 4. Woke up early and decided to read up on the CLASS threads. After removing the trunk and reconnecting the three plugs to the class system I realized that it was not activating in any way. No noise, clicking, etc. Nothing. With the key in the accessory position the controller panel would show 88 on the screen and when I push any of the buttons and hold them down for a couple of seconds it would go to 0 and then shows the E4 error. I think this might be a good thing. Having read the thread posted by Freebird a few years back I now have some ideas on where to start troubleshooting this problem. Loose connections, re-solder of the pin connectors on the circuit board, etc. If this works and I get the unit working again, all I will need then hopefully is a new hose with the proper fitting going to the rear shock. If I get it working I should at least able to test it out on the front end to ensure that it is working. I have nothing to do for the next 3 days so it looks like I have a weekend project
  5. Thanks Gary. I may take you up on that. Just read the tech page on progressive spring replacement for the front and it seems like the way I might want to go with that. From everything I have read on here people are very happy with them. Looking at other aftermarket rear shock replacements now. Man! They are pretty pricey.
  6. In answer to your air pressure question flyingfool, my manual seems to indicate 11 psi in the front and 14 psi rear for solo riding. Since my rear mud flap was hitting the ground going over bumps I just tried increasing the rear pressure. It seems that no matter how much air I put in the rear shock I was not getting a reading on my pressure gauge which leads me to think the air chamber of the shock is not holding air. Air is going into the tube leading to the shock but the shock does not appear to inflate and I still get no reading on the pressure gauge when I check. I'm beginning to think this may have been an issue for the previous owner and perhaps he thought disabling the CLASS and adding the airvalve would correct it when in fact it may just be a malfunctioning rear shock.
  7. I've had my Venture Royale a little over a month and a half now and have put about 1000 miles on it. I have to admit, of all the bikes I have owned or have ridden over the years, this is by far my favorite. When I bought the bike the CLASS system had been disabled. The previous owner did not like it for some reason. All parts are still on the bike and he assured me there was nothing wrong with the system he just did not like the way it adjusted the bike when he rode two up with his wife. The guy is local and a decent guy so I have no reason to believe this isn't the case. When he disabled the system he removed the fitting for the rear shock that connects to the compressor and added a valve to directly air up the shock. I can find the hoses online to replace this hose with the proper connection. I have noticed that when I had a passenger on the bike the back mudflap hits the ground when going over bumps and from the looks of it, it has been doing this for a while. I added air at the valve he placed in the line but it doesn't seem to do much to raise the rear of the bike. My question is this. I have looked into the Progressive front springs and also checked out a few aftermarket rear shocks (Hagon, etc). Is it worth my while to try to get this CLASS system back up and running or I should I just consider going the Progressive route with new rear shock? 99% of my riding is solo. I rarely have a passenger. When I ride the bike solo the suspension seems fine to me. I do feel like the back end sits a bit too low though. Sure, I would like to have the CLASS system working, but am I missing anything by not going that route? Seems to me that if I get it working I might just be asking for more problems down the road. Whereas if I do the Progressive and new rear shock I should not have to even think about anymore. I appreciate any opinions one way or the other. Thanks.
  8. Odometer and trip meter are both working. After looking at your diagram it seems to me that maybe the magnet isn't turning which means it isn't building up the eddy current. I can turn the cup and the needle moves. I'll have to pull the speedometer out again tomorrow. There really is nothing to it and as your diagram shows there are only a small number of parts.
  9. Hi Micarl. I was able to get the pointer back to zero. Everything inside the unit seems to be turning as it should so I'm at a loss as to why it isn't moving the pointer. The spring is in place and there is tension on the pointer. I'll ride with it like this over the winter and next summer I definitely plan on making one of the maintenance day events and maybe someone can give me some pointers. I learned a few things about taking the windshield and instrument panel off and got to have a better look at the wiring and instruments in general. So, it was a worthwhile project. I didn't fix anything that was broken AND I didn't break anything that was working. So it was a good learning experience.
  10. Speedometer is back in. Oiled and cleaned. Needle is not working but at least the odometer and trip meter are still working and I can still track mileage and I'm still confident of the total mileage on the bike. I can judge my speeds by the tach so that's not a big deal I'll just have to live with no mph indicator. There are worse things .
  11. The speedometer needle on my 1983 Venture Royale is sticking. When I purchased the bike the speedometer inner cable had been removed by the owner. He said the last time he rode it the speedometer stuck and his mechanic told him to remove the cable to prevent any internal damage. He bought another bike and put the Venture up for sale and never had the speedometer fixed. I removed the speedometer today and everything appears intact to my untrained eye. I can moved the needle back to zero and it will spring back to 90 mph as soon as I let it go. It is in remarkably good and clean condition on the inside. Hate to just buy a used working speedometer from ebay if there is anything to be done to fix this one. Any ideas on what the problem could be? I hate to just replace a perfectly good looking instrument.http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/TSM01/IMAG0134.jpg
  12. Thanks hotrodyj. I definitely wasn't knocking the C50 I had. It was a sharp bike and didn't give me a minutes trouble. The big drawback for me was the high engine rpm's at highway speed. I thought about doing the draft shaft mod and swapping out for the C90 drive shaft which would have taken care of that problem. Ultimately though, I knew I wanted a bigger CC bike with more power and storage for trips. I also belong to the Volusia Riders forum and many, many people are more than satisfied with their Volusia/Boulevards. The attached pic was my ride until I sold it Friday. http://i120.photobucket.com/albums/o196/TSM01/308464_2164015352981_1624545813_2155573_7636173_n.jpg
  13. Safety chrome you say pmelah? I like that sound of that! That's what I like about motorcycle forums; always someone more than ready to assist with new ways to spend money on my bike.
  14. Thanks for the info MiCarl. Splines lubrication was also an issue with the C50 I had. I've always done my own wrenching on my bikes from back in the days when I rode CB750's but I'm not equipped now to do much mechanical work. Fortunately, this bike came with the business card of the mechanic that has been maintaining it for a long time and is very familiar with the bike. I know the 2nd gear repair can be costly, but honestly, for what I got this bike for and the great condition it is in, not to mention only 25k miles on it, I can justify having the 2nd gear repair and having a rebuild done at the same time if it comes down to that. I plan on riding this bike for quite a while so putting some money into it won't bother me too much.
  15. Hi everyone. Until last Friday I had been riding a 2009 Suzuki Boulevard C50 that I purchased new. Nice bike, but no matter what I did to it (batwing, mustang seats, hard bags, etc.) I just wasn't able to turn a cruiser into a comfortable long distance bike. I made several trips from my home in northern Indiana to my former home in Lexington, Ky on the C50. 4.5 hr trip and I would be mentally and physically exhausted upon arrival. I knew I needed something bigger and more road worthy. I was thinking used Gold Wing and began watching the Craigslist ads. I kept seeing a 1983 Venture Royale in immaculate condition popping up and there was just something about this bike that I liked. Long story short, I listed my C50 on the Chicago craigslist thursday morning and delivered it to a guy in Kankakee, Illinois on friday afternoon. I was back in Lafayette by 4pm and had the Venture in my garage by 7pm. Things were working out! I took it out saturday and made a 300 mile ride up to the Indiana Dunes area by Michigan city for lunch. The bike performed flawlessly and even after riding 6 plus hours and 300 miles I was completely relaxed and felt great when I got home. Some friends think I'm crazy for selling a almost new bike and buying a 30 year bike but I'll tell you I couldn't be happier. I'm aware of the 2nd gear issue and hope to learn more from the tech forums. Any advice on maintenance or things to watch for would be greatly appreciated. I look forward to meeting other Venture riders in my area. Thanks.
