inputs on the venture's, likes and do not likes

The crash bars are much better if you reinforce them underneath the front floor boards. -
My second MOS in the army was 12F which was combat engineer. There were two sides to this. One was blowing up stuff and the other was building stuff. I was a tank commander on a CEV. Guess what I did.

Bob, I know you've probably already done this but I gotta ask. Are you sure you don't have some kinda obstruction in your air intake? Dirty Filters? Rat bed? Bird nest? Just trying to help.

50 mph average speed? A moped will run that fast! -
I've been using the Purolator since WalMart quit carrying the SuperTech brand. I have noticed though that they also carry Bosch as well as the Fram. Not a big fan of Fram since I found out about how they are made.

I agree totally! Since I went back to the GG on the rear, the pads last longer, don't lock up as easily, and don't wear out the rotor as much. Most of the stopping is done with front brakes anyway. Got 24,000 miles out of last set of rear brake pads.

Thanks for reminding me. I knew there was something I needed to do. I change mine about every other time I change the oil.

Yea man, you got that right! I installed 'em last week and it works like a charm. I took the #1 cylinder fin off and filed down the bottom edge so the bleeder wouldn't hit it and to get a little more clearance for attaching a hose for bleeding later. I highly recommend these for everyone. I had previously bought a brake vacuum pump but these things are so much easier to use. I was worried a little about getting air in the lines during installation but it pumped it all right out! I'm sold on them.

Man, I sure am glad you came out well enough to talk about it. Get well soon, then we'll discuss the bike.

Many, many years ago I tried out a BMW R75/5. It looked basically the same. I kept it for a couple of days and during that time the one major drawback to this bike was the carburetors. The bowls were held on by a wire bail. If you weren't careful, your left foot while shifting gears would flip the bail around and the bowl would fall off in the highway. You'd find this out pretty quick because it would start to run on one cylinder. Had this to happen more than once during the couple of days I had the bike. Anyway, the bank said I couldn't afford it so I had to give it back. Great handler for the time!

OK, my mistake. Forget I asked. Go figure, motorcycle forum, car trouble!

What kind of bike? Most use same oil in engine and transmission.

Tip for regrinding valve shims; grind the side that has the size etched into it, then use a pencil grinder or some type of engraving tool to write the new size back on it. When you install it put the engraved side down away from the cam lobe.
-
Jeff, we've got 3 K.O.LEE grinders that look just like that in the shop where I work, as well as 3 other power driven grinders that are much larger. I used one several months back to resize some valve shims for my bike. I'm like you, I'd love to own my own machine shop equipment. Have fun.

Kinda looks pointless if used with the Ram Mount system. -

Thanks to all the responses. My original intent of this question was to find another application for the same bearings, much like we know that you don't have to buy an oil or fuel filter from the dealer that just happens to be closed for the next 2 days. The purpose was in case someone got broke down they might be able to go to a car dealer or some other completely different service center where they might use the same bearings for a totally different application and purchase the bearings from them. I think if we somehow could get a list started of different applications for the same bearing or seals or whatever, it might keep someone from having to call off a vacation or such because they couldn't find a certain bearing at the nearest motorcycle dealership. For example, say this same bearing might be used in a transmission of, let's just say, an Allison or a Nissan. Whether it will or not, I don't know but I'm pretty sure Yamaha isn't the only one that uses this bearing.
