  1. Rick. PM and phone number sent to you. Cheers, Gary
  2. LilBeaver; I saw your post about your windshield last night and planned to private message you. However, Gary N is correct and I can help you out if you would like. I have an original windshield for my 05 Venture that I can give you. A couple of little scratches but I'm sure that won't matter. Penticton is about 4.5 hours from Vancouver in south central BC near the US border. Not in Vancouver but not THAT far all things considered. Anyway, up to you. PM me if I can be of help. Gary B
  3. Ron, we are terribly sorry to hear of the loss of your friend in this way. Its a tradgedy in any light but drunk driving has to be stopped. The penalties are just too lite to get the message across. Hang on to the memories and cherish them.
  4. I'm very happy to hear you came out of this as well as you did, especially after seeing how much damage your bike took. Hope you recover quickly and make out well with the insurance. Ya, nail the driver for her negligence. Half of them shouldn't be on the road anyway.
  5. We sure do have our share. And both of us have some good ones too.
  6. So what makes you think it was Jake and not his owner???? Man, at first I thought you were going to say you ignited something with your cigarette. Glad it was only "P".
  7. Good question. We have almost 40k miles on our 05 and because people have had this happen I keep an eye on it but it has never been loose where as others fall off after no time. I better knock on wood or something!!
  8. I hope Squid doesn't mind if I jump in on this part. I used 1/4" aluminum and the template MrRadi8 showed in his post and did not trim the corner off. I made them last winter and have put 9k miles on with them. There is no obvious flex and they appear just fine when I inspect them visually. At a total cost of $5 Cdn I didn't worry about corrosion. So cheap I could replace them easily.
  9. I took some pictures today and will try and post them here. Hope they help. You might not have full range of adjustment of the rider pegs with the deflectors but should be able to get pretty close.
  10. Yes you can. I have both. I have the Kuryakyn Offset Dualies. Part number I think is 7976 and others will work as well, just takes a little time to adjust them properly.
  11. There are no negatives really to the 130 size tire at speed that I have ever noticed nor can I recall negative comments by others. The actual width of a 130 will actually vary a little between manufactures. I just did a quick measure of my Avon 130 and this may not be 100% but its pretty close to 5 1/2 inches wide.
  12. Sorry, I don't have a pic but there in the site somewhere or look at Yamaha Accessories for the Venture or Tour Deluxe. They attach to the lower guards that are behind your lower fairing. Same place you would attach rider pegs. There is room for both the deflectors and rider pegs.
  13. Thanks, interesting info. I'm thinking the ATF/Acetone mix wouldn't be friendly to painted surfaces. ??
  14. That would be my suggestion too and they use USPS so the shipping will be more reasonable.
  15. The Catalytic converter started in 05. I have a set of those from a RK and did not punch out the Cat. No loss of power or vibration for me. The Cat does not restrict the pipes to any significant extent.
  16. The volume of air the rear shock holds is so small, I'd be reluctant to use any type of compressor on it. I'll stick with my Progressive pump.
  17. I don't think they look the same but they should fit the same as I believe they attach the same way.
  18. Not sure what that means. Are you saying its all the way up on the sight glass when the bike is in the up right position? How much oil are you actually putting in when you change it and the filter. If so, that sounds like its too much. Most up us have found that 3 1/2 quarts with a filter is about right. More than that and it will work its way up the breather tube and into the airbox under the gas tank and drip out the 2 small vent tubes that hang near your side stand. I'm no mechanic but I can't see where the slight difference in oil weight would cause what you are describing. I've been using 20w/50 Amsoil and just started using 20w/50 Mobil 1, both bike specific oils and mine has never felt any different cold or warm.
  19. Yes the speed discrepancy is a percentage and not a fixed amount. My experience with the odometer reading are a bit different. My odometer is pretty accurate but not quite. No where near as inaccurate as the speedometer. My friends Harley's speedometer is off by almost the same as my Venture.
  20. Rick, got them here in Penticton. Its a private shop that does 99% of his business with Harleys. But I get a few things from him and buy my tires there. Best tire prices and other stuff I can find around here and I trust this fellow 100%. Eagleeye, the HD crowd want pipes louder than their stock one, plain and simple. As far as looks, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You like the stock RSV pipes and I hate the looks of them. Isn't variety and all our different opinions what makes the world interesting.
  21. Mine were free because he wanted to get rid of them too. $40 sounds a bit much cause I bet he didn't give the people that left them anything when he put after market pipes on their bikes. Eventually he'll just chuck them to get rid of them.
  22. Yes, I've noticed it also when the CB is on. Similarly, I don't use the horn that much and haven't worried about it. I can vouch for Sarges working in Ft Collins cause I was almost beside hime when she cut over and he had to use it.
  23. Talk to Clearview and see if they will make you a custom sized one that works better for you.
  24. I assume you mean it has been lowered with a Barons kit. If you are buying it from the original owner that lowered it in the first place, make sure you get the original parts from him/her. These should consist of 2 links shaped something like dog bones and the brake caliper relocation piece. The brake relocation part is to protect against slamming the fender into the stock rear brake caliper when lowered. You can tell if the rear brakes have been relocated if you see the rear calipers positioned below the swing arm. When stock the calipers are above the swing arm. Changing the brake relocation piece requires that you remove the rear wheel. The Barons brake relocation parts consist of an arm and a spacer but the original part is a single piece. It is pretty self evident how the stock piece should go back if you take the right saddle bag off and look at the rear brakes. There is a piece in the Tech section on putting links on with the torque numbers. If for some reason you don't have the stock rear brake location arm, you can live with the Baron's rear brake relocation piece and still put the bike back to stock height with the links. If you don't have either, you can get links made to the stock size or get some from someone on the site that has gone with the raised links and don't want the stock ones any more. Changing the links is very easy and as said, the direction to change links are in the Tech section for 2nd gens. Sorry if this is long winded. I don't have the original instructions but it isn't a difficult change. You might take a look at the Barons site cause they show a picture of the kit parts.
  25. We got them from a store that sells hearing aids, hearing protection etc. Lots of them around. Many companies supply them for their plant workers that are exposed to continuous noise. They have "vented" ones that have a tiny hole that allows a little more sound through than "non vented" ones. When not using them we run the IC volume at 12 and with them in we run the IC at about 18 when doing interstate speeds. Can hear the helmet speakers fine.
