  1. While Mother is not back yet from his trip to Alaska, I know that just before he left, he had the same thing happen to him while he was at Bongobobny's. This is worth noting for all of us 1st gen VR owners.

    Happy Canada Day!

Where abouts in Canada do you plan on going? If its the Southern Ontario area, you are welcome to send me a PM and maybe I can help a bit.

    Happy Canada Day!

Cliff - Your sentiments are much apprciated. Many years ago, on a motorcycle trip, I spent July 1 somewhere in eastern Canada and July 4 in Vermont. I was blown away by the celebrations I experiened by you Americans. Anyway, one of the things I like about this forum is how it contributes to making us one big family.
  4. Still calls for rain but sun is out right now so I can't resist - Anne and I are about to leave Toronto and if we don't abort due to weather, we will get to Carl's for a visit with whoever is there. Will also pick up my headset cable if possible.
  5. Been at the cottage since last Wed and didn't see this post until Carl flagged it for me. As I mentioned in a PM to Carl/Wayne last night, Anne was willing to book Tuesday off work so we could enjoy an afternoon ride and meet up with folks for an evening ride. Weather has definitely precluded that. Anyway, I now see from this thread that Wed is on if weather permits. Unfortunately, we also planned on a trip to Guelph on Wed to spend time with the grandkids, so we may not be able to join in.
  6. Don't know much at all but talking about these two bikes in the 60's brings back memories. I had a 305 Dream for a while and my best freind had a RE. I remember towing him back home several times. Another freind back then had a 441 BSA that he raced and I recall the day I rode it and went over backwards at a 4 way stop (the torque caught me by surprise). I held on to the bars and the bike landed and spun around on the footpeg one and a half turns before I jerked it up and jumped back on. All that was damaged was the licence plate. It really was a screamer!
  7. I also used a crazy glue because it was what I had on hand. It was made by Loctite and the small bottle came with a small brush applicator which happened to work very well for applying the glue in teh rubber seam. I applied the glue over several inches of trim and held it for a short until there was a bond, and then did some more. to my surprise, it worked well and was sure worth the time and effort.
  8. That's what I like about this forum - I learn something new every day. When I bought my 88VR this spring, I noticed a small hole on the underside of each muffler near the front. I mentioned this to the previous owner and he said that he had bought replacement mufflers which came with the bike but were not yet installed. The holes are not in the identical position on each muffler. For safely check purposes, I inserted self tapping screws in these holes and after reading other threads, I also bought some J&B weld for when I got around to doing a proper patch. Now I am thinking that maybe I should just remove ther screws from these holes. Can anyone tell me where these drain holes are located so I know for sure?
  9. With my new to me 88VR, I have been amazed at how smooth and quiet it shifts, up and down. Don't know if they are all like this, but mine shifts as smooth as any other motorcycle I have owned over the years. My problem sometimes is easily shifting into neutral.
  10. For me, their sole purpose is to check my blind spot. Also, they make things seem much smaller and farther away. That is why I perfer smaller convex mirrors than the ones pictured because I primarlily rely on my regualr mirrors.
  11. Bob - Don't know how I missed this yesterday but like so many others, I would like to wish you well in the end.
  12. I also had a close call on my way home from MD. Normally, I lean forward to check for vehicles in my mirror before I change lanes. That time, I was leaning back with my foot on the front pegs. When I checked the mirror, I clearly saw the last two riders behind me in our group. I figured they had secured the lane for our lane change, but when I changed lanes, I was less than a car length in front of a vehicle that had slipped into the passing lane ahead of them. taht vehicle was right in my blind spot . Not a good situation. I have always installed these convex mirrors on my vehicles, but have not yet done so on my new 88VR. They will be installed soon.
  13. Nice bike. They are great -enjoy! Had bikes since 63 and the 88VR that I bought this spring continues to impress me, as does the forum.
  14. Carl, I was hoping to give you and escourt (or at least follow you) from Newmarket to Peterborough but unfortunately I missed you folks at the Tim Hortons on Green Lane. By the time hyou see this, I hope you and Marca already arived in Ottawa with big smiles on your face from a great ride. Good luck again with your presentation!
  15. Marca and Carl - Hope you enjoy your trip very much and you also come back thinking they listened to you. The politicians need some good advice for your industry.
  16. They were my plugs and I was going to install them at MD. However, I was not desperate to do so and I was happy to help someone else out as it sounded like you needed them more than I did that day. I'm glad that I could help and don't worry about any payment. Hope your own work at MD was successful and you had a good trip home! Evan
  17. I have a relatd question. While Ihave attached pics to posts, I can't figure out how to attach pics to PM's. May not be doing what I need to as there is no "manage attachments" option below the new PM box. Checked the posts and FAQ info and still stuck. Should I see a "manage attachments" option for PM's?
  18. Bob - Would like to add our condolences for your new Venture but as others have also said, what is most important is that you were not physically injured. Good luck with your repairs. Evan & Anne
  19. Sounds Great. I'm sure Dave will have no problem picking you up. However, he sent me a PM suggesting we leave downtown Toronto (where I live near the St Lawrence Market) around 11:30 as it now looks like we need to get to Wayne's by 1:00. Does that work for you? I will check messages in the morning or you can call me at 416 368 8668. Evan
  20. It looks like it makes more sense for us to meet at Wayne's (as Carl expected), so we Dogman and I from Toronto can do that and Dave will let Greener know.
  21. If a place like Ace has the balnk, it is almost certain that they will have a key cutter which will work for the Yamaha key based on my experience.
  22. Carl - I think the price I have b een paying at a NAPA store was somewhere around $15.00 + txs. If you do have any extra, I would purchase a few cans.
  23. I have had the same problem for several days although that seems to be back to normal today. Also, my "remember me" option stopped functioning at the same time and is still not functioning, so I must type in my name and password every time I go to the forum even though I have check the "remember me" option.
  24. Sure agree! While the world seems to getting smaller all the time and the amount of internet information is mindbogling, I agree that it is the members of this site who make it so special. .
  25. Do you still have the luggage rack? Also interested in protectors for teh saddle bag covers.
