  1. Needed extra keys and went to the standard places here in Ontario (eg. CTC and Home depot) with no luck. Don't think we have Ace hardware places here. Anyway, I went to a lock and key place and for $3.00, they cut keys that work well in my 88VR using a Ilco blanc. In my case, they used a YM51 X75 blank.
  2. At MarCarl's VentureIn event, a few members suggested that I post an idea for mounting running lights that dosen't require brackets. I mounted a pair of "Xreme" 55w lights just below the fairing and beside the rad side wings by removing the top threaded screw holding the aluminum side piece and using a longer threaded screw in its place to hold the lights in place. In my cse, I inserted a half inch spacer so the light that I used were in a perfect position. You can judge for yourelf whether the location looks good for you, but it sure functions well. Also, with "Xtreme" lighting kit that I bought (the oval shaped lights), everything needed came with the kit to install it directly to the battery (with an in line fuse) and to locate the switch inside the gas cap area. Didn't have to cut a single wire or drill holes. I may mount a switch on my dash some day, but for now, the location works surprisingly well as I can easily switch the lights on or off when I am riding.
  3. This forum has been amazing. A few days ago, I remembered to check out my own gas cap on my 88VR. Sure enough, one of the screws was quite loose. Thanks to those who flaggged this problem that Venture owners (like me) wouldn't think about otherwise.
  4. Bob, the picture is amazing. Mother told me about it, but words just don't convey the challenge. Looking forward to seeing you and your gold VR on Saturday at Carl's.
  5. Want to order but not used to doing paypal other than on e-bay and for membership. When I click on your hotlink for paypal payment, it takes me to an e-mail with the address atmrsweldman66@yahoo.com. Is that what I to send paypal info?
  6. Just ordered one last week. Now waiting on delivery. So far, I am impressed with their support and ordering process. I asked a few questions by e-mail and got quick responses and they sent good info after the order was recieved.
  7. Great idea and initiative for a great organization. Would like one myself.
  8. Recently, Mother hung a guardian bell on my new to me 88VR, which I very much appreciated. I like the bell itself and I also like the idea of returning the favour to someone else. There was a recent post canvasing for interest in this (which I also responded to), and I understand from that post that the stock of bells has been depleted and new stock would have to be ordered.
  9. Been at the cottage for a few days - home now and getting caught up with the posts. Facinating to follow the diagnosis and fix process. You guys are amazing and we all learn from this.
  10. I have followed this thread including the advice. I am often amazed by how much help comes from others. For me, electrical problems can be ovwhelming. I recently reported a likely electrical problem - my kill switch recently popped on a few times after running for a while on cruise control. Still not sure how to deal with the problem and what causes it although I have beeen told that cruise and kill switch wiring are linked. Anyway Wayne, good luck! Evan
  11. Freeebird - Another member (Mother) hung a guardian bell on my new to me 88VR which I like and appreciated very much. If you are able to get more stock, I would definitely purchase one so I can do the same as Mother did for me some day.
  12. After reading all the related posts, I went to a place in Toronto called Plastics World that specializes in this stuff. Based on their info, I decided to buy both Plastex and ABS bonding glue and try both. My own experience is consistent with what they told me, which was that Plastex is by far the superior bonding agent unless you are in a situation where proper application is not possible. There is a good web site video at www.plastex.ca. In my case, my ABS glue weld is the only joint that failed, although I suspect that had more to so with me than the product.
  13. Here is some info in response to your questions, which I appreciate:
  14. Just got back from dropping off some tools at Mother's. Arrived unexpected. To my surprise, he was busy cleaning his garage, and he had worked up a sweat doing so. Some of the pictures must have drove him to it.
  15. Don't think there is anything better than Plastex. Mother told me about it and since then, I have used it to repair cracked and missing tabs fo my 88VR. I have been amazed by the ease to apply and the resulting strength, and you can shape the results by sanding or drilling out the hole. Check the Plastex web site and related posts on this forum. I assume it is compatable with the type of fpastic you want to repair.
  16. On a recent trip, I was cruising along on my 88VR at around 120km/hr (about 75mph) under cruise control when suddenly, my stop/run button popped from run to stop. I thought I had pressed the button but it happened several more times after I reengaed the crusie control. Has this happened to anyone else? Any ideas on what caused this?
  17. While it has been many years and many bikes since I had my GL1100, I remember that I sold it after a year or so because I liked another bike that I had at the time much better. I just didn't feel connected to it when I went down the road. I know it's a personal thing, but I sure like my recently purchased 88VR much better.
  18. [still geting used to posting properly - this earlier post should have gone here I think] Like to add our big thanks to Bob and also send our appreciation to all who made our first M&E a totally enjoyable event, other than the time spent in line at the border - and for the record, it took us much longer to get back into Canada than it did to enter the US. Several of us followed Swifty back to the border, and even Swifty couldn't make the line move quicker! Also, I am attaching a few additional pics. One is of Wizard 765 checking out my 88VR that I recently purchased. That is what got me involved here, which is a good thing!!!!! Looking forward to MarCarl's. Evan & Anne Attached Thumbnails
  19. Compliments to you on your work that improved your mileage so much and your report. Just acquired my first VR after owning and riding many other bikes, so this info is great. Any thoughts on which items had helped most?
  20. While it was many years ago, I have gone east several times. Mother is right, the Cabot Trail is fabulous. However, there are many other fabulous roads and scenery that you can take in. In my view, for example, parts of Vermont and New Hamshire are also amazing, and you can do a loop to cover this area. The Yarmouth to Bar Harbour Ferry is a good option for this.
  21. Don't know what I am doing wrong but when I click on the photo, I only get a larger set of 4 photos as in your first post. Any suggestions or other help? I wouild like to buy one of these and lmaybe eave it with Mother for guys in our area in Ontario. Evan
  22. Mother recently warned me that I would loose my cassette cover unless I did something to tie it down. A few days later, I was returning to Toronto on our major highway (#401) and hit the deepest pot hole I have ever rode over at about 65mph. Seconds later, I watched the dust cover fly away. (Lucky I didn't go down or do more damage, as it was a long narrow rut.) Today, I checked and I can get a replacement dust cover from a local Yamaha dealer at $25cdn.
