  1. It is a 2nd gen...and I am pretty sure it was a aftermarket as he told me he replaced the old one with the tallest one he could find....and yes...will make sure I check tightness more often
  2. Wonder if anyone else has had it happen. Bought a new to me 2005 Royal Star Venture in Wisconsin last fall and rode it back to Eastern UP Michigan in the rain. No problem and love it. Rode it to the golf course the other day and on the way I took off from a corner and a ways down the road I was nearly pushed off the bike as the windshield for no apparent reason came loose and flew off hit me between my helmet visor (half helmet) and my safety glasses and shattered shortly after hitting the ground and a truck running over it. I was able to get off the road safely and go back and pick up the bigger pieces. Lucky it didn't throw me off the road!
  3. I have a 87 and when I went to hook my battery up this spring I hooked the neg up first---main problem ,,,which blew the main fuse. I finished hooking battery up and found my spare fuses and replaced it. When I went to plug it back in it blew again. DO I need to unhook the battery, replace the fuse and hook it back up then hook up the pos then the neg to keep it from blowing again? thanks
  4. Thanks Bob--just got mine all back together---had all the gaskets--was worried about one of the clamps--the bolt got broke off and I couldn't get it out--can't get new clamps either--but--luckily my local dealer who has been very good to me was able to remove it at no cost. Just took it for a short ride and all seemed good again--so hopefully things work out. Thanks for the offer though and everyone who helped me with it. Make me proud to be a member here when people jump in and offer assistance.
  5. one of the clamp bolts--should be able to get it out and replace that--just need to know about any gaskets--what they look like and where they go if any.
  6. I am redoing my collector on my 87 venture. No problems removing everything although I snapped off one bolt I did not see any gaskets on any of the pipes when I removed them or even know what they would look like. Is it necessary to have gaskets to reattach everything again? I did not even see any on the pipes from the front either. Sort of a novice trying to save a few $$ Thanks
  7. I live in da UP and will continue wearing mine--have hit the ground before and it's not pleasant--beside there are too many nuts allowed to drive cars up here that have no idea there are bikes on the road.
  8. my exhaust on my 87 sounds funny like there is an air leak--when I had it in for some repairs they told me there was rust in it and the part that would need to be replaced is like $650.00. Anyone else have this problem? They told me it won't hurt to run it that way.
  9. yes the snow is gone but you better hurry cos you never know when we'll get it again
  10. Chippewa Motors in Sault Ste Marie Mich. Some may not like them but I have always had good luck with them for snowmobiles 4 wheeler etc. They are also a small chrysler car dealer a guy named Pat works the motorcycle counter and Dennis who is the original owners son works on bikes and seems to me to be pretty knowledgeable and willing to listen.
  11. 2 Years ago I messed up my oil filter cover when I changed my own oil and had to get a new one--now I bring my bike in for oil changes which I did yesterday--also asked them to check brakes. They called as I was shopping and asked if I have messed with the rear tire in the past year-I told them no not since they put on a new tire for me. He said thats what I was afraid of , we forgot to put a spacer in and owe you and new set of brake pads. They still have my bike. They called back and said it also messed up the rotors and they are looking for a replacement used one or an after market as a new one is $800.00. I asked how much this was going to cost me. The dealer stated, nothing it was our mistake and we will get it back right before you get it at our cost, it will just take a few more days. Glad I listened to my wife and took it in for the oil change. Sometimes paying a little more can save you over the long run. I have dealt with this dealer for many many years and they have always done me right.
  12. thanks everyone for the suggestions-now gonna have to try it.
  13. The left air vent grill by the handlebars on my 87 Venture broke off and I want to put it back on, the tab broke off where the screw goes. What is the best glue that will hold the tab securely? thanks
  14. Wish I could have met you--seeing how you were in our backyard. Sometimes I forget just how beautiful it is around here--been to all the places you described and you gave a great description of our area--thanks for sharing.
  15. I have an 87 1st gen. I am trying to wire my bike for a trailer which is a 4 wire trailer. By the battery is my fuse box with brown, blue, red/white > wires. then there is another bundle of wiring that is all grouped > together very tightly. In this group there is white, yellow, pink, blue, brown with a > red line and a couple double colored wires. They are sort of tight > together. Are these the wires I need to splice into for this?--I am trying to wire in a modulite power module. Is there an easier place to splice into near the battery area where there is more room? Thanks for any and all help
