Fuzzy, Baggershield is a convertible windshield of sorts, so you can have a short one in town and a tall one on the highway. I think its a great idea. here is the link, http://www.baggershield.com/ they are a vendor at the top of the VR page.... Brian

Shift lever/housing/shaft broken
friesman replied to GilbertHall's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
It seems several members that have the floorboards on their G1 ventures have had the same issue you are having. Not sure what is causeing it, but it seems like the floorboards angle sets up pressure on a weak point and causes the breakage. It seems you are going to have to do some disassembly and see what exactly is broken, and maybe analyze on reassembly with pics so we can all see what is going on and maybe try to help you and anyone else avoid this in the future. Welcome to VR! Sounds like a great route you have planned! I would love to be able to ride with you guys but cant get there in time. Ive been in NS lots of times, and love the place. My ex is from there and my ex brother in law still lives in Dartmouth so I still get out there once in a while to visit them. I hope you find some friends here to go for a ride with and get that new Venture christened properly as they need friends around to really run right, you know.....lol! I think Seaking is from the Halifax/DM area, but I am not sure. mabbe do a look in the Community tab and see who is around. Brian

Best Light Weight Enclosed Trailer to Haul Venture
friesman replied to birin's topic in Trailer Talk
I have a 6cyl 3 liter 2007 Escape and I used it to pull a 12 by 6 Continental Cargo trailer to haul my G1 85 Venture around and it also worked great as my garage. My Escape pulled my trailer and Bike fairly well on flat land but when i was going thru steep inclines or into stiff winds the gas mileage and performance sucked! The Continenetal Cargo 12 by 6 only weighed about 1200 lbs and with the bike on it it was a around 2000lbs. I think your 4 cyl would have trouble pulling this setup as my 6 grunted sometime. Brian -

I wish, the grass is still growing like mad here and no sign of slowing down..... Brian

probably the biggest thing is to take it for a good test ride, to check for clutch basket whine. Its not common to have it bad enough to affect the ride, but it has been known to really spoil someones ride on the odd bike. Also, get under the bike and check for oil on the rear shock, if its not perfectly free of oil, its probably going to need a new shock at about a 700 buck hit to your wallet. BTW there are 2 G2 ventures in the Classifieds section here with less miles and lower price than what youre looking at. BUT a good deal is whatever you figure it to be. If its the right bike for you, youll be willing to pay more for it...http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=4 Brian

Electrical performance 1985 Venture
friesman replied to smegsjr's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Jeff is right, the headlights on these things are awful. My 85 is never on low beam as it just doesnt throw any light at all. I have the silverstar Bulb in that helps a bit but its still pathetic. The only time I find mine not charging correctly or seems like its undercharging is when the fan is running on a hot day, and it draws enough to take me down to just over 12 volts at highway speeds. So, my question is has it been hot while youve been riding lately and is your fan cutting and a draining your juice. If you have any questions on an 85 there are a few of us around like Marcarl, Gigawhiskey and a couple of others, please ask away if you need something answered. Brian -
Good luck with the move and the fresh start in a new place! I am sorry that youre a bit too far away to help out in a timely way, but I hope the move goes well and that you dont over work your leg. Brian

A month ago a couple of friends and I went on a 8 hour ride each wat to Drumheller Alberta. I had my 85, gordo from here was on his 2000 MM and Reg was on his new Harlet Ultra. I had to stop earliest for fuel as my tank was smallest but Gordo and I were within a few pennies on every fill. BUT the Harley killed us on mileage, I didnt get Reg's mileage but it was substantially better than either Gordo or I. Brian

I would like to give a big thanks to Jeff and Margaret

SHHHHHH!!!!! dont tell them, but we all like them too!!! 2 better people cant be found anywhere, i am glad they were able to help you out. Brian -
basically thedifference is the G1 is more like a sports tourer and the G2 is more like a harley cruiser-tourer. The g2 is feet forward and a typical cruiser bike. Both bikes use essentially the same drivetrain, its just the configuration of the bike around the engine thats so different. Brian

It started as a thread for the g1 bikes though. Brian
