newby needing help
friesman replied to Steveroge's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I would go to an Autozone store or Walmart and buy a couple of cans of Seafoam and use about half the can in the first tankful, and then about 25-30% of a can in each tank afterwards. These bikes like to rev so around town you probably should never be in a gear higher than 3rd (i dont get 5th until 60 or 70 mph). You cant drive these like a vtwin, the redline is 7500 and the develop horsepower from 3k rpm and up. Dont be afraid to let it rev, especially when trying to get thecarbs cleaned out. Looks to me like its all pretty subjective as most of the better tablets all have about the same number of stars for user ratings and are excellent units. Also check if the store will throw in any accessories like the stand or case. Check that all cables and adapters are included, some retailers sell packages that dont have all the cables and they retailthose separately for a hefty price. Basically I would recommend anyone go to the stores AFTER you decided what you need it for and then go find the best one for your purpose. links to a couple of reviews on ipad and the Xoom on CNET, an independent site. http://reviews.cnet.com/motorola-xoom/?tag=contentMain;contentBody http://reviews.cnet.com/apple-ipad-2-review/?tag=contentMain;contentBody Brian

It was because HP had the winning proposal for support and price and even though Apple was invited they decided not to send in a proposal to us. Apple lost the tender 2 years ago against other competitors according to our selection team made up of teachers, support techs and network admins. so I guess they were pouting last spring when they decided not to participate in this competition. It really wont matter if HP sells off the laptop business or not as our contract is for 3 years warranty (that Apple has refused to do.) and have been given written contracts that they will be honored by the people purchasing the spin off company, as the IBM/Lenovo buyout went. There is a rumour that Apple isnt particpating in very many contracts because they are getting out of most laptop and desktop computing and heading to the personal gadget business where they can make more profit. Its no secret that there isnt much profit margin on laptops anymore, and tablets arent going to be a cash cow for long with Google's Android stuff getting in play. Brian

Thats what I think should happen. but I thought I would float an idea in case anyone had a solution. I think prices are higher in Western Canada than the East so he could end up with cash in hand. Brian

Cool, ok I am wrong. BUt i still prefer windows or Android to mac. and my Xoom to an Ipad. Everyone has different preferences, needs and ideas. I have worked on macs in my job and have used the ipad and still prefer the xoom. I work daily beside guys with ipads and the multitasking and remote desktop features and speed on my xoom are what I prefer. Its funny you say that about people assuming things about macs as I am just finishing up a rollout of converting 1000 macbook users to HP PC laptops, and I am amazed at what I am hearing from well educated people about PC's...lol , so guess that works both ways. I guess its kinda like the boogie man in the closet.... its scary until you see it and find out what it can do...lol

I chose the Motorola Xoom. It has a 10 inch screen will play HD movies and allows me to remote into any of the work servers and is the only tablet that uses a multicore processor with a gig of ram and supports multitasking. It also runs Adobe flash for web surfing and while it does affect battery life slightly.( The Xoom also has microsd (add storage 32gb), usb and hdmi slots for hookups. I use bluetooth to move data from the tablet to my home computer. Ive also used the bluetooth to stream music from the Xoom in my trunk on my 85 to my Scala headset. I have to admit (and it hurts me to say it) that the ipad2 is a great tablet as well and has more apps available, but for work use the Xoom just seemed to handle more stuff for me. The battery life on these 2 tablets are amazing, both seem to get about 8 hours approx with fairly heavy use, but when listening to music they seem to run forever (the Xoom has stereo speakers, the rest only have a single speaker). A couple of the guys I work with are running ipad and ipad2 and we all seem to run out of battery life about the same time, but the guy with the galaxy runs out about an hour before the rest of us if we are running remote sessions or working on something fairly intensively. http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/US-EN/Consumer-Product-and-Services/Tablets/MOTOROLA-XOOM-with-WiFi-US-EN Brian BTW i did not get the 3g or 4g version, mine only runs wifi, as thats all I want. Anywhere i go I can find wifi (home, work, hotels, any and every McDonalds restaurant for when youre travelling. 4g coverage is real spotty outside if the main cities here and to me there was no point if I can use wifi.

Its not the weather, its the distance and the cost of fuel of making a round trip from Ajax Ontario to Calgary Alberta. its about 3300 kms one way. if it comes down to that he will be cheaper shipping and paying the 900 bucks shipping rather than making a round trip to get the bike. Brian

I have exchanged a few messages with Chris Richard (Mike Richard's Brother) and he mentioned he was having issues getting Mikes bike back to Ontario from Calgary AB. Does anyone know of a way to help get Mikes bike to his brother Chris? Can we set up a relay? Or is there a reasonably priced way to get a bike across Canada? If you have any ideas please let me know so I can tell Chris, he would really like to have his brothers bike home. Brian

Ride-On is used by several members here and I havnt heard of a negative comment. I use it and it does seem to smooth out the ride. I understand that Ride On gets a consistency of jelly when in your tire so it doesnt get messy like Slime and most of the other tire sealers and balancers. It also doesnt attack the aluminum wheels. ive never had a nail or a leak to I cant say for sure if it stops leaks or not, some of the other members will have to speak to that. Brian

Mrich12000 Rest in Peace
friesman replied to Rocket's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
I just received a nice message back from Mikes brother in Ontario that Mike had a massive heart attack while staying in Swift Current SK trying to wait out a nasty weather front in a hotel room. His brother Chris said that Mike was happiest while he was out doing what he loved, --road tripping--. Brian -

I just did some checking on Facebook and it appears that Mike passed away while on a trip in Swift Current SK. No mention of accident or other causes. Here is a clip of the posting from Mikes' brother Chris on Facebook Michael Vital Richard February 24th 1952 – July 22nd 2011 Passed away while on vacation in Swift Current Saskatchewan. Mike will be missed by his sisters Margaret(Wayne), Linda(John deceased), Carol(Wayne) and brother Christopher(Eileen). Mike is predeceased by his parents Vital and Phyllis and brother Dennis. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his many friends. Although Mike lived most of his life in Ontario, he loved living and working in Calgary for the past 2 years. With the best summer weather in a couple of years and no health issues this summer, ive managed about 22500 kms on my 85 this year. Brian

I beleive it should only hold around 3.5 quarts of oil. thats why you cant see the level as youre over the top of the window. I would be inclined to drain some out until you can see the level drop to the middle of your window when its level and on your center stand. I would also check your air filter box as most guys end up with oil up there when the crankcase is overfilled and it gets your filter all messed up too. brian

we were mid 90'sf (33c) until last Sun, then on Mon it started to cool, and by the time I was ready to go to work Wed morning we set a new low record of 24f (-5c) bbbrrrrrr! its way too early for that kind of temp. But yesterday we were back up to mid 70's in the sun, and it looks like 80f (27c) and lots of sun are what is forecast for the next week or 10 days. woohoo! Brian

I love the spin on adapter on mine. It took no tools but it did take some time to make sure I cleaned all the grease and crap off the mating surface before install. No special tools, just spin it on and tightne, but dont overtighten. It makes the oil change a 10 minute job and a no mess operation. Brian
